If memory serves correct there might have been claims and counter claims when it came to legal action. The tragedy in all this is that if half the things that are being said are true then was it really necessary for things to develop this far?

I have recently come across some threads from years ago which explain some of the arguments/debates/accusations and the main protagonists involved therefore I understand several issues involved which could be root causes but surely something could have been differently. Maybe if there was mediation back it might not have played out this way where deep rooted animosity got a foothold.

Yea that’s what I was getting at..
The way the term “not able” was used..

I am unaware of any legal action against Vod but would not be surprised one bit..

I feel bad for Vod  Undecided
But don’t necessarily disagree with a restraining order..

Now he's not even able to post here anymore

He is not able to post here anymore?
OgN is referring to Vod. If what OgN says is true about Vod not being able to post here anymore, my speculation is that there is a restraining order.

I don't really want to get into details of potential off-topic areas of discussion here.... but when there are various disputes between members who had historically been in default trust - and even if they are sometimes (or is it frequently?) being included in the trust lists of other members (who are DT1), then there seems to be topicality here.. unless we can be pointed to some other thread in which we might come across this information -- and there are ONLY so many hours in the day to perhaps get exposed to various topics.. or even knowing where such detailed discussion might exist on the forum...

So in regards to Vod no longer posting, I was presuming death or disability.. but sure, you (PrimeNumber7) may well know more than me (even though you are using the word - "speculation").. because I am just going by an abrupt stop from Vod in posting without my having had come across any explanation and realizing that Vod had been having health issues and even perhaps coming across references to that subsequent to Vod's discontinuing to post (even though at the same time, I had also come across several back and forth squabbles that sometimes seemed to get quite intense between Vod and some other members including but not limited to OgNasty.. and then some of the seeming strangeness of the squabbles continuing even though Vod was no longer posting (or maybe no longer able to post for reasons other than my presumptions)...

If there is some other thread or information source for where there is information of anything other than death/disability of Vod or otherwise voluntary discontinuance (which would be less than a restraining order).. then I would be interested in having that pointed out.
Over the years, I have seen various flame wars between OgN and Vod, with a lot of name calling. I think a lot of the dispute between the two was regarding each of their DT statuses, although I think their dispute goes deeper than that.

The specific post that I remember reading that made me believe that a restraining order may be involved is this post, specifically this sentence: (appears to be referring to OgN)
I probably will not be allowed to have any more contact with him after this week.
I also vaguely remember OgN threatening to get his lawyer involved in the situation, which if I am remembering correctly, would give credence to my speculation.

He said goodbye to the forum. His farewell thread is a bit hidden in the Investigations section (I don't really know why it's there instead of the Reputation main one, although I guess it has to do with the controversy he had with OgNasty):

At least five of your twenty-one UID's that you currently trust have been inactive for over one to two years and about ten or eleven of those you currently distrust (including three who are now banned) have been inactive for over one year to upwards of 1,200 days.
Being inactive doesn't make their feedback less valid. And excluded users should remain excluded, even when they're banned I don't want to see their feedback.

If you are using the system as the way you should (you do of course), you don't need to change the trust list every now and then. I have included users in my trust list because they provide feedback which I think worthy to look at when I trade. I'm also don't change the trust list every now and then. There was an issue earlier which forced me to edit my trust list. Though I'm thinking of going with Default Trust instead of having custom trust list as it creates some issue sometimes. I don’t want them at all.

I'm taking this post here (so I don't continue off-topic):
I've discussed some of JollyGood's negative tags a few times (probably in Reputation), but gave up after it seemed futile. He must have had enough of it, and stopped trusting my judgement last May.
Why didn't you add starmyc to your Trust list? His feedback seems reasonable, and that would mean he'd be on DT2 when you're on DT1, and would level the playing field a bit

I see you suggest others modify their trust list which is very good. I have checked your trust list and look like you have made only two changes in the last 12 Months (You Included o_e_l_e_o and excluded mdayonliner). That means you care a lot about whom you trust and distrust.
You're right that I don't often change my Trust list. I don't really like being the one who adds someone onto DT2 unless I feel like it's absolutely deserved. I'm less worried about the DT1-voting, because that's much more decentralized than DT2 (once you're on DT1).
I've explained the reasoning behind all my exclusions in Reference topic: Why are these members excluded on trust lists?.

Quote
I have you on my Trust list and I am curious why don't you modify your trust list and make it bigger so that I can see more accurate feedback?
Allow me to return the question: Why don't you make yours bigger if you want more accurate feedback? Wink

Quote
People use their Trust List and Feedback power as daily routine things.
I try to be conservative with the feedback I leave, so that it still means something.

Note: there's one more added than removed because one user was blacklisted from DT1 in the past month.

What on earth did that user do to get blacklisted?  Vod laughed at theymos' threat to blacklist him and went on doing exactly what theymos threatened him for doing, while lying, abusing the trust network, attempting to extort me, reporting me to government agencies with false information, as well as harassing my friends and family outside of this forum and trying to get others here to do the same.  Now he's not even able to post here anymore, yet he's still in the default trust network.  So I'm curious what this blacklisted person did.  What, did they post here that Bitcoin was created to be a p2p payment network or something?

No matter what system is in place, there will always be people complaining of the DT mafia or something ridiculous.

It is not ridiculous.  Just because it is the annoying refrain of scammers caught with their hands in the cookie jar doesn’t make it untrue:  Helping oneself to those proverbial cookies is a privilege of such persons as you.

You, yahoo, spent a very long time running an ad campaign for a scam.  Everyone knew it was a scam.  It caused massive controversy.  You did it anyway.  It must have paid well.

When a DT finally stood up and declared that he would tag you for this, he had the unwavering support of exactly one other DT.  He was promptly ~kicked out of DT, under the flimsy rubric of your supporters taking a twisted, self-contradictory position in a contemporaneous case.  His only 100% firm supporter in DT soon left the forum forever—probably for other reasons, but certainly in a state of disillusionment.

To the best of my knowledge, you never paid any consequences for any of this.  Under the public pressure raised by someone who essentially sacrificed his DT status to oppose you, you finally stopped advertising a massive scam—and that was that.  You walked away scot-free, with whatever profit you had thereto gained from your running of signature campaigns for exactly the type of scam that is designed to swindle naïve newbies.  IMO, you deserve permanent negative trust feedback and a Type-1 flag.

You kept your reputation, your business, your DT status.  You comfortably and hypocritically ridicule talk about a “DT mafia”, when you yourself are exemplary of it.

Perhaps I should not be so surprised.  Once upon a time, theymos, this forum’s administrator, used to advertise in his own signature an overt “Get Rich Quick... Bitcoin Ponzi scheme” (quote-unquote).  In the same era, in that cultural atmosphere, this forum was a tower of HYIP scams crowned by pirateat40.  It was worse than the sleaziest parts of defi today; perhaps it has not changed as much as I had believed.

We need to hold an election or something
We should hold elections every 6 months or year,

Democracy. Roll Eyes

New DT is the result of theymos abdicating the responsibilities of sound leadership.  Old DT was bad:  Instead of fixing it, theymos made it worse.  Fixing it would be too much trouble:  It would surely require cracking down on some high-trust, high-inclusion users who are thoroughly, very profitably corrupt.

Back in the day when it was 12 users or whatnot, DT meant alot.

HTH.

I was going through all of my PMs, a lot of which I kept from my early days on the forum, and I came across this back-and-forth between myself and Blazed.  It  just goes to show you (anyone who might not be familiar with how things were prior to Theymos's rejigging of the DT system) that being added to DT2--not even DT1, which was the holy grail for trusted aspirants back then--was a pretty big deal.

Plus if I recall correctly, Blazed had to run it by his DT "sponsor" to see if it was cool, and there had to be two DT1 members adding me to their trust list just for me to get on DT2.  Hilariousandco did me the honors.

And then I got booted off a short time later for some reason, and then re-added not long after that.  2018 was all about strangeness on bitcointalk.

Did you ask Blazed before showing that off?

Personal Messages are not private.  There is no rule against disclosing them; and sometimes, they should be published.  For good reasons—I think that excessive reluctance to publish PMs that show wrongdoing has sometimes caused long-term damage to the community.

Publishing PMs to brag and show off seems like an exercise of poor judgment, at best.

I think the intention is to make individual trust ratings less meaningful and to encourage people to make independent judgments about the risk to dealing with a person, rather than relying on the subjective opinions of a few people.

I'd agree. Introducing a lottery would seem designed to make DT dysfunctional to experienced users and encourage them to exclude default trust and rely on their own chosen trust list. But at the same time leaving a DT system in place where actual scammers will still be likely to be seen as tagged by newbies who haven't worked out how to use the trust system yet. If the idea had really been to make it some kind of democracy then it would be based on the most votes counting. No democracy enters all candidates with a minimum number of votes into a lottery.
I don’t even think it is a matter of if a particular rating shows up by default or not. I think the intention is to get people to look at the context of the rating and it’s references and come to their own conclusion. This reduces the impact of a frivolous negative or positive rating, while maintaining the ability of the community to warn others about potential scammers.
