I sold 10.5 or so BTC back then, didn't purchase any though. Would of purchased if I needed though.

Do you think it is good time to purchase now? The price has dropped since the $1200 price reached in 2013.

Yes it's especially good if you can buy under $500
It will be easier for you to get profits out of that.

I am surprised that a lot of people here think that the peak value of $1,261 was real. Unfortunately, it was achieved through dubious means by the Mt Gox guys. They artificially inflated the exchange rate, by rigging the order book in Mt Gox. If I remember correctly, the exchange rate in BTC-e was around $1,050 per coin when the peak price was reached in Mt Gox. The spread was more than $200.

If we can achieve $1050 in the bitcoin price, I am happy. It is more than double of present price.

I wasn't into bitcoin at the time where bitcoin was worth $1200, I think I would've probably sold and not buy at that high of an amount.

Seems a bit much for something that still needed to adapt.

People were simply thinking that the price would rise to $1500 or even $2000. At that point any one with his mind being in fairly decent condition will decide to NOT buy. The price went up to such a not realistic price level in a very short time, it was just a matter of time before the price would crash.

Hey all, just as the title says, did anyone buy bitcoin when it's price was at it's peak ($1200)? And did they sell as it was dropping, or did they still hold on? I personally felt something was happening when it peaked :-/

So, back to the topic. Did anyone buy, and did they sell as it dropped? How much did they lose? Did you feel really really sad? What kind of an emotional impact did it have on you?
i am sure someone buy bitcoin when the price was $1200,and then they sell it on price of $1300 Grin just trader who do that.

I think there, I just bought bitcoin when the price is still $ 600 that may occur around the beginning of 2014 if not mistaken, I think people who buy at a price of $ 1,200 it will incur a loss, I guess

Nope I Never bought bitcoin at the price $1200 because i know bitcoin end of year 2014
No brother, I didn't get the chance to buy the Bitcoins when it was at his peak amount of $1200, but those who was buying that time and the price started dropping then he or she really felt the pain of losing big amount of money.

Nope, I only sold at this time. I had high doubt it would've gone any further up and buying during very quick price increases is always risky because it can easily crash right back down in a matter of an hour. If you bought at 1200 however it's best to just hold onto it for now rather than sell at 400, as there is a good chance bitcoin will go back up around that price some day.

I didn't, sounds crazy that some people bought bitcoin for such a high price. I don't blame them though, nobody knows where bitcoin is going
Bitcoin is very unpredictable.

I haven't bought at $1200 or know anyone buying at that price, but from the charts maybe at that particular time there were a lot of people selling. Anyhow, those who did buy at $1200 would right now be dissatisfied by their move, best would be to hold and expect another jackpot Tongue

no, I began to know the bitcoin when the price is back down to $ 600

So you did not buy the coins at $1200. Did you buy any at $600. Are you going to buy now when the price is $370?

is there anyone still holding the btc that they bought when it was 1200?

People that bought at $1200 can't do much other than holding and waiting/hoping the price will come close to that price again. I do however think that a good portion of these people that did buy at the $1200 peak, have sold on the way down to prevent even bigger losses. It costs time, but eventually we'll be on these +$1000 levels again. Keep holding.

Hold until they can ROI/earn profit is not bad idea, but it'll take long time. Not everyone have braveness to do it.
Also, if everyone holding, lot of these holders could dump their coins at same time & it could make bitcoin price crashed.

Nope not me. But I knew someone who bought it... he is still upset and bitter about it til now.
Anyway, I feel if you are buying or invest in bitcoin, you need to know how much you are willing to pay for it. (And what u are going use it for)
Few years passed.. we see the up and down price... is not always stable and we are unable to really know it worth in next few mths or even a year.
For me.. I will only buy it around $200 to 250 usd range.. if it drops below it, I can still keep and anything over.. I can profit and sell..

I only bought at 250 and 600 a year ago. Most of them went into miners which i already sold for quite a nice price.

Buying at 1200 would have been foolish, every person who did this has lost over 50% of it's money.

You're saying that but what's the difference between someone buying at 1200 and the people buying at 450 few days ago? In both cases there was a huge rise without anything to back it and if the price seems stable it could have dropped a lot! And it may drop to 300$ in just a few hours, you can't know with btc...
