Newcastle had a good defense and a super goalie which made it very difficult for Arsenal to find the back of the net despite their endless effort. Losing at home is not what I expected from Arsenal. However, Newcastle did great by taking advantage of their chances in the first and second half when it came. Isak is in form and is becoming more dangerous everyday.
Many Arsenal attacks were thwarted by Newcastle players in the match even though Arsenal were able to control the ball well, but every shot fired by Arsenal players did not produce any results in the match. Meanwhile, Newcastle players were able to make quite dangerous counter-attacks especially through Alexander Isak and also through Anthony Gordon in the second half so that it made Arsenal players frustrated and unable to respond until the end of the match.
Arsenal keeps making people believe that they can't do better if there are a few absent players in their team. When it comes to beating Newcastle, I won't say that Arsenal are consistent and when you look at how they played yesterday, it was as if in front of goal, they were afraid. Imagine making runs and getting to the 18 yard box, you waste it. The Gunners would need to improve in so many areas if they want to be carrying trophies cause it's not this kind of behavior that wins titles.

Arsenal haven't been successful in the EFL Cup for years and now they are close to saying goodbye before reaching the finale once again. By the way tonight there is a Tottenham - Liverpool game too. I expect Liverpool to destroy them like they did in the Premier League.  Smiley

It seems that Arsenal has been cursed since the beginning, they are not supposed to win trophies, and I do not believe they will win any in the near future. Last season they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup against West Ham in the round of 16, and they lost the first leg at home to Newcastle this season. They could have scored more goals at home, but they lost. We're not sure if they'll make it in the second leg at St. James Park since Newcastle has hardly lost at home, it'll be a difficult game for Arsenal to win.

It's really bad that Tottenham Spurs will suffer another defeat today, they'll be facing mighty Liverpool, who aren't taking any opponents lightly this season. Liverpool destroyed them the last time they met in the Premier League, and we expect a similar result tonight. Tottenham Spurs lack the strength to stand up to Liverpool's pressure in this match. So we are expecting Liverpool to face either Arsenal or Newcastle in the final.

No one expected Arsenal to lost 0 - 2 to Newcastle at home and this defeat could be bad start because in the second leg Arsenal will have to play away and at least have to win by more than 3 goal to be able to enter the final absolutely.
Seeing the match against Arsenal and Newcastle United I just had this feeling that Newcastle United was going to surprise us in this tie. Arsenal games have not been convincing in recent games since the absence of Saka and their attack is really not as dangerous as it used to be. Newcastle are good in playing strong matches like this and they are good in winning games like this, with the nature of their defense I doubt if Arsenal can go away and turn the scoreline around by leading with at least 3goals up. It’s almost impossible against Newcastle United.

70% of most football fans expect Arsenal to win, but 30% of most bettors already have the idea that Newcastle can win. Even I bet on Newcastle without hesitation. And I have also said here that Newcastle can hold or even beat Arsenal.
Newcastle have been in form lately and the way they play I just suspected that they could win but I didn’t have the confidence to bet on them so I went for a draw because I didn’t have confidence in Arsenal to win also. Newcastle should not be underestimated by saying Arsenal can beat them 3-4 goals up in the second leg.

Of course, Arsenal's team had an incredible result, because Arsenal was very strong this season, but I never imagined that they would lose to Newcastle. Many bettors lost in this match because Newcastle did not perform well from the beginning, but they were able to score two goals. Arsenal made a total of 23 attacks in this match, but none of them resulted in a good result, which is the biggest failure for Arsenal, but Newcastle only made 7 attacks and succeeded in two attacks. However, Arsenal fans will never forgive them in this match, because most of the bettors believed in Arsenal in this match.

if you have been following the Newcastle games recently, you cant just predict that arsenal will get an easy victory against them considering the way they have been really strong and the goal scoring form isak has been on, having incredible game is not what matters at this stage of the carabao cup, you need to get the victory and so far, arsenal ran short of it and gave it all to Newcastle.

this is the kind of result i love to see because it always sends a signal that there is no sitting on the fence and that there is no team that doesn't see the possibility of winning titles. arsenal proving yet again that they are not ready to win titles but only gets close to it and give it out tp others while they sit back saying that if that had done this or that something different would have changed about the result. it is the end of the journey for arsenal.

Arsenal lost at home with an aggregate of 2 goals. There is still one more match, the second leg at St. James Park to determine which of them will advance to the final round.
Arsenal's two-goal defeat in the first leg gave rise to various speculations from us by assessing what their game was like that could happen like that. Meanwhile, we must not forget that Arsenal still has a chance even though it is difficult.

Another match that will take place later is Tottenham vs Liverpool. I hope my favorite team Liverpool does not experience the same fate as Arsenal.
The EFL Cup is an important competition that Liverpool must focus on because Liverpool's steps have reached the semifinals. I mean there is only one step left.

For the Arsenal fans, i saw this today;

21 Years without a title
33 Years without a Carabao Cup
0 UCL
0 Super Cup
0 Club World Cup
Never defended any prem title.

This is a very bad record for a club who has a humble and passionate fans. Is the club really ready to win any title because i don't think so. Newcastle beat them on their home yesterday and knowing full well that they are in the lesser side to win the EPL. It was a moment for them to win at least the Carabao cup after so many years.

The management is poor and it is obvious now.

Sad part was that they had more chances on goal than Newcastle. Last night's game was pure evidence that it's not how many chances you get but how well you can utilize the ones you have. Arsenal kept pressing but when it came to doing the needful, they could not be trusted.
You summed it all. Newscatle United won because they took their chances. Aside the few absentees like Saka, Arteta used his first team players and still they couldn't get pass Newcastle defence. The Magpies were solid defensively and they deserved the winning. In few weeks, the gunners will be visiting St James Park for the return leg. I just hope they will be able to right their wrongs this time and secure a ticket to Wembley, but of course it's not going to be easy.

I thought that since it was a cup match, teams with mostly reserve players would take the field, but both teams took the field with their main squads.
I was expecting a goal-scoring match, but it ended 0-2. I even thought Arsenal would win, but that didn't happen either.
As you said, Newcastle's goalkeeper and forward were the better side. I don't know about the goalkeeper, but if Isak continues this performance, he will find a place on the transfer list of bigger teams next year.
Newcastle got good results from the player they transferred for a record fee in 2022, and he also developed himself better.

I don't think it will be wise for a coach to use reserve players in such a high intensity and profile match like this despite its a cup game. Both teams are fighting for a place in the finals and besides they are both EPL top teams. Yes, i also thought that Arsenal will win the match considering the fact that Newcastle has never scored against Arsenal in the Carabao cup in the Emirates stadium, but this is football were past records doesn't even matter much.

It was unbelievable to see Arsenal not even scoring a goal in that game.  Shocked  Even while the score was 0-0, they found significant chances. Especially Martinelli's shot hitting the goal post could have changed the fate of the game...

I can feel the pain the people who made a bet on BTTS felt during the game. Arsenal found many more chances than Newcastle but they were just not on one of their good days.

People are over confident to bet on Arsenal, while they forgot Newcastle is regaining their form back again. The corner FC seems struggle again after they lose two goals.  All goals have Isaak in its goal involvement. Their tactic is not working properly in this game. They gave newcastle huge space in the mid, no doubt they lost it. I wonder how long they feel boring to always become trophyless.

Let's see if they will be able to come back when they play the second leg. As it is, with the absence of Saka, teams no longer regard them, it's as if they are empty without the left winger.

This one wasn’t so surprising was it? Both teams are EPL teams and they both are fight for the EPL trophy as it is, having good form and I like to consider Newcastle United to be more in form at the moment than Arsenal. Isak, Gordon and Murphy are on fire for the team and Arsenal is just adjusting to use what they’ve got in the absence of their fire power in Saka to work the wings and cross that ball in. G. Jesus has just been filling up the gap as we know it but, his not fit in them shoes as expected quite well.
Havertz ought to have scored the last attempt he got, a clean header could have given the goalkeeper no chance but, it came off his shoulders.
Technically both of the teams are in good form, but this match played in Emirates Stadium and Arsenal dominated the match, the results ended Arsenal without score is really surprising. At least Arsenal should able to score one goal, but Martin Dubravka is too good.

It will be hard for Arsenal to play in the next game since they will play away, Arsenal should bench Odegaard, this guy is no more like in the past, Mikel Merino is better than him now.

Advantage Newcastle, it ended 0-2 in favour of the visitors. Arsenal played well but couldn't create chances for themselves to score, this match proves once again that you can play good and still lose when you don't create chances and make good use of them. Newcastle are one foot into the Carabao finals as we await the second leg in a week or two weeks time.

It was a very disappointing result for the Gunners, who failed to take advantage of their scoring opportunities. Arsenal controlled the match in terms of ball possession and total shots, yet they failed to score a single goal. If it hadn't been a home loss, we might have suggested Newcastle took advantage of playing at home to win the game, but Arsenal couldn't stop disappointing their supporters this season, conceding two goals while scoring none. Isak is insane; he made many chances that resulted in Newcastle's victory, which is what the team needs from number nine. I hope Arsenal can make a comeback in the second leg, since Newcastle ahead by two goals.

However, this is the same team that defeated Manchester United in the Premier League last week, and many people were claiming that Manchester United was weak because they failed to draw at home. The same team that is competing for the league title, Arsenal, couldn't defeat Newcastle in the Carabao yesterday, so I'm sure Newcastle can defeat Arsenal if they play each other in the Premier League. Since Saka is absent, I honestly don't think Arsenal is a strong team without him.

The score line was much expected At least if not from from anyone but me, in the premier league right now Newcastle are the best club, don’t get me wrong I said right now not this season. They have now recorded a Seven straight win , conceding just 2 goals in their last 7 games. Maybe if some arsenal players were not injured the might have gotten a better result. It was a good game and arsenal should have at least got a goal. Gabriel Martinelli came very close by hitting the woodwork.

Alexander isak scored again and he has now scored in 5 consecutive matches, what a player he has been since he came back from injury, not just the goals he scored but the way he plays, help in building up the play, holding on to the ball and creating havoc at oppositions end. He was the best player on the pitch yesterday.

The other semi final plays later today, Liverpool takes on Tottenham and it will be another interesting one to watch, well we all know Liverpool are favorites to win this tie but it football and anything is possible. I can’t wait to watch this one also.

The momentum at the Emirates Stadium should have been used as capital to make it easier for them in the second leg, but the result was truly beyond expectations, Arsenal had to admit Newcastle superiority. Arsenal still have time to turn things around, as the gap between the first leg and the second leg is still very long. However, considering Arsenal's very busy calendar this season, it is very difficult to turn things around in the second leg, especially since their position is under pressure.

Arsenal might still lose the second league if they play the same way they played yesterday. Creating chances that are not being converted and also conceding very easy goals. I think this Newcastle team has devised a means to beat Arsenal because it's becoming regular and often seeing them beat Arsenal. Arsenal or Arteta to be precise thinks he can win every game even without a proper goal scorer. That's just a fantasy, you can play and possess all you want but without goals you're definitely not going anywhere.

Technical skills and Finisher are the two things Arsenal is still lacking this season. Having a moderate possession with a great result at the end is far better than possessing the ball throughout the match with absolutely nothing to show for it. The earlier Arteta realises he need a natural striker this January, the better for Arsenal.

Newcastle are one foot into the Carabao finals as we await the second leg in a week or two weeks time.

In this type of competition we will always see surprising results, I mean teams that fight for the title in the Premier League fall early and do not reach the final while teams that are not fighting for the title in the Premier League are going far in this competition, in some cases even reaching the final, perhaps this happens because the coaches who are fighting for the title in the Premier League underestimate the other teams or want to spare the physicality of their players by limiting them to playing moderately, without making much physical effort to avoid injuries.
Yeah, surprising results often happen at this stage of competitive football. But over the years we have seen teams that are In pool position of winning the league also in finals of cup games too, in England in recent years, Liverpool has done it, Manchester City have been doing it even Chelsea. Most big teams use their second 11 to play cup games involving lower division teams thereby balancing the squad for the remainder of the season when everything starts getting tough.

No one expected Arsenal to lost 0 - 2 to Newcastle at home and this defeat could be bad start because in the second leg Arsenal will have to play away and at least have to win by more than 3 goal to be able to enter the final absolutely.
Isak himself played very well with Newcastle in the Premier League and at the age of 25 he has the opportunity to become one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Initially I predicted the final would bring together Arsenal and Liverpool but I don't know it seems like it will not happen, what is certain is that Liverpool will be team that is guaranteed to enter the final later.
Alexander Isak is Arsenal targetting player but Newcastle refuse to sell him and last night he has scored and make Arsenal lost but second leg would be more hard because Newcastle will playing at home and Arsenal should be win with 3 goals margin if want to qualified

I think Arsenal should be forget to gets trophy from this competition because it's hard for them to win with big scores from Newcastle later especially Newcastle won't let it happend there is even a possibility that the 2nd leg will be won by Newcastle again

Me too predict the ideal final is Arsenal vs Liverpool but judging at Arsenal performance last night most likely they journey will be stopped at the semifinal and for other semifinal match between Tottenham vs Liverpool i think Liverpool will be qualified to the final match and meet Newcastle

Or if not, Arsenal is only able to score 2 goals without conceding and Arsenal will qualify from the penalty round.
