Here is an analysis of Red Bull Ring.  Smiley

Source: https://x.com/FDataAnalysis/status/1806279713448481221

As it can be seen, having higher downforce is going to be really important here. McLaren is expected to gain some extra advantage because of this feature of the track. Maybe another opportunity for Norris to go for the win?  Grin

Red Bull hasn't been able to maintain a big gap with McLaren in power. This is their home maybe but it is still a fact to take into consideration. I don't expect Leclerc to be as competitive as Norris for the win. I hope Norris gets his 2nd career win in the same season.  Roll Eyes  I'm okay with its happening in this race too.

Those upgrades to the track are welcomed due to the drivers were receiving penalties during those very turns so adding gravel should deter this from happening.
Just look at the last race where somebody went into the gravel then came back onto the track.

And @emrecemsan very much agree with you there with the past sprint races.
So hopefully we get another exciting one like in 2022.

Here are the markets for the sprint qualifying race which is an important one:

Austria is the next stop for the F1 this race weekend and Red Bull is looking to smash it with a guarantee victory!
Sprint races too are on for Verstappen racing on his team's home track.

Sprint races have been held since 2022 on Austria track. The one in 2022 was pretty fun as there was a good fight between Verstappen and Leclerc. Leclerc even won the main race back then.  Smiley  But in 2023, we watched a really boring sprint and race.

I hope it becomes similar to 2022 again, being competitive and thrilling.  Smiley  Ferrari has been struggling recently so I have no idea what they will do this time. Normally this is a track they really like.

McLaren and Mercedes are both in great shape these days. It is giving me a great joy to watch Norris especially. I expect him to be competitive for a win once again.  Cool

What F1 Upgrades Are Coming To The Austria GP

He is saying that the unique track could give a chance to those who performed in Canada because of the similar track.
I hear there are some changes in the tracks too putting strips of gravel traps in Turn 9 and 10.

Quote
Organisers have now accepted the recommendation made by the race stewards last year to add two 2.5-metre-wide gravel traps at the edges of the exit of turns nine and 10, with the necessary work being undertaken in the last two weeks.

While they should reduce the need for post-race penalties, gravel traps are not a magic bullet as they are problematic for other motorsports events that run at the Red Bull Ring.

To reduce penalties. Well, we will see if it works.

Currently Norris is having a wonderful race honestly.  Smiley  After a really nice pit strategy Norris is like flying. After a problematic start to the race he is right behind Verstappen now.

The gap is quite big though, over 7 seconds. I'm really curious whether Norris will be able to catch up with him. The gap is melting slowly for now. We still have one more pit to see for these drivers.

As long as we don't see any individual mistakes it looks like your bet is likely to lose, rdbase. But it is a nice try anyway as there is no guarantee for anything.  Smiley

Lando... at the last moment he gets the PP, I like HAmilton for this race, I'm not saying he wins, but for the Fast lap options he may be in charge, also 3-4 place.

Statistically, Landon should win, but I think this track will have MAx in first place.
While placing my bet I was thinking the exactly same thing as you famososMuertos! Grin

So I decided to take the bet that made the most sense to me:

Lando will eventually faulter somewhere along the way and we will have a repeat of the last race or even worse than what he placed in that one.
Max is Max so he will get there to the top of the leaderboard with his pace.

That didn't seem right after thinking about it since Norris has been in F1 for a while and with his caliber of driving would have had achieved pole position before.
So actually I did see that this was his second pole since his first was during the 2021 Russian Grand Prix.
https://racingnews365.com/2024-f1-spanish-grand-prix-qualifying-results#:~:text=Lando%20Norris%20claimed%20a%20second,pole%20by%20just%200.020s

They did cancel a race there due to the war just starting but must of been the year after that deal concluded.
Have to go back to Drive to Survive a few seasons back and rewatch where it all started.
Maybe even catch Norris pole in that race too.

Anyhow for the race tomorrow, I was going to take Norris as those odds are nice with over 2x but it isn't a guarantee just because he landed pole position as we all know Max will fight him at the very start and if he doesn't get him there he eventually will chip away later in the race.
He is like a badger gnawing away at your ankles until you get down to their level then comes in for the attack.

Should make for an eventful race and what fans of the sport want to see.

That was an amazing qualifying session indeed @emrecemsan !

Norris beat Verstappen by two hundredths of a second to snatch pole position from him.
I really thought Max had enough from Q1 to Q3 to get it and actually placecd a bet on him right before qualifying started @2.10x

Yes, there was like a 0.2 sec gap between Norris and Verstappen in Q2. I also started to think Norris wouldn't be able to make it but he surprised us.  Smiley

I'm sorry about your loss. Formula 1 is a really unpredictable sport. You never know what happens next. But this season has been so much fun until this point with different results. I hope this goes on for a full season.  Roll Eyes

Think they mentioned this was the first time for Norris having pole for the Spanish GP!
Actually after reading this it is his first:
https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/how-many-pole-positions-2024-f1-driver-have

Yes, he only had 1 pole in his career before which was in Russia. Now it is 2 and a well-deserved one.  Smiley  What do you say for the race? Do you plan to bet on Norris to win the race?

I might give him a chance for fun. It is 2.49 for Norris and 1.83 for Verstappen currently.

And we have the qualifying results...

Full Results: https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/latest#Qualifying

Q3 was pretty fun to tell the truth.  Smiley  Norris had an amazing lap on his last attempt which was enough to take the pole position in the last moment. Before the session started the odds for qualifying winner were favouring Verstappen by 2.10. Norris was also 2.60 which was worth giving a shot. It was even 6.00 for Norris when I first shared the odds on my previous post.  Grin

Ferrari were behind Mercedes. This wasn't a thing that I expected. But race is completely different from qualifying. We will see which team steps forward.

Piastri had a horrible qualifying. He found himself out of track on his last attempt too. The weekend has been going on pretty difficult for him.  Sad

Could we have a multi-team podium just like during the last race?
Verstappen did not look so great during the practice sessions yesterday and Lewis actually came out on top.
But Red Bull have a card up their sleeve with a slender rear wing approach for today's runs:

Let's see how that works out for them. Grin

Nice analyst of the track in Spain before the race starts and cool graphic aswell!
Thanks for that @emrecemsan !

Didn't know why I thought the practice session were starting yesterday this time.
I guess since the time zones are several hours away and not a complete 20 hours off like in Japan. Cheesy

Well found a source to go by for those who are wanting to keep their local timezone in check when these sessions do commence:

Yes, it is finally time for some action on the Catalunya track at the weekend.  Smiley

Source: https://x.com/FDataAnalysis/status/1803423783761379679

Sector 3 chicane has been removed so overtaking is more likely to be seen from now on. Considering the character of the track, Red Bull seems to be quite advantageous to tell the truth.

This is what I'm afraid of the most.  Tongue  Because Verstappen wouldn't be merciful when he has the chance. Maybe qualifying session would be more interesting than the race. One-lap performances differ quite much among top teams.

The current qualifying odds:

Taking about Kimi, it got me thinking if he would be the youngest driver to join F1 or would it still be Max?

Kimi Antonelli was born on August 25, 2006. He already got past 17 years 166 days on this February so he missed that train to be the youngest driver to debut in F1.  Smiley

Such a young driver Verstappen was back then though. I really wonder whether we will see any other driver breaking his record in the future. To tell the truth, I believe it is quite likely after this change in the rules.

By the way another thing I'm wondering is what Mercedes is planning recently.  Huh  Maybe they might want to bring Antonelli even during this season and make him their reserve driver to start preparing him for Hamilton's seat already.

With this move , Mercedes are officially thinking of their future for a long term because Kimi Antonelli will have all the time to actually be prepared for his F1 career but also be prepared to become an F1 champion because he does posses a very high skill behind that wheel. The last driver who had this opportunity to drive at such a young age in F1 was no one else than Max Verstappen who raced along multiple champions and had the time to craft and perfect his driving style and look how majestic he is now ...almost untouchable against anyone ( maybe not Piastri tho ).

Luckily for him they changed the rules so he can join at his age.
