You can get Biostar TB250 (12 x GPUs) and ASrock H110 Pro BTC (13 x GPUs) on Amazon.com and also Aliexpress -
around 250$ to 350$ USD - its cheaper from Aliexpress.  But I think, many Amazon resellers are selling them at premium because the supply has not gone mainstream yet. Maybe wait for a while more or get from Aliexpress.

The Asus Prime Z270-A mobo is a very good board for 7 x PCI slots (plus 2 x M2) - good standard mobo for GPU mining.

The Z170 boards are very unique and PITA, too many things to set to make it work, not ideal for GPU farms.

All my newer rigs uses both the new multi-GPU Biostar and ASrock mobo, to help me achieve better density/footprint ratio, power consumption, lower smOS fees etc.

The previous 6 and 7 slot boards are still being used in earlier the rigs.

I prefer to use the H81 Pro BTC and H110 Pro BTC (with onboard on/off switch), the board works out of the box without any changes to the BIOS. I love the on board ON/OFF switch button too.

The TB250 still needs to a have a few tweeks here and there in the BIOS before getting the board to work - all 12 slots.

@ Phil , it may be related to the Mobo.
I noticed some are very hard with anything "advanced" (more than 4 GPUs , special adapters) , like the Z170s which are the worst.
But some mobos are very freindly with any kind of improvement, for example Z270s really helps for multiple GPUs rigs , and all M2 adapter alaways worked directly.

@ Citronick , thank you for feedback.
I never plugged any power connector to this kind of adapters. Just the adapter himself in the mobo, and the riser directly on it.
Always worked perfectly. Until the 2 burnt GPUs recently discovered...
I got some smoke too, but from the GPU itself when I tried to restart the faulty rig.
I'm sure this is linked to the M2 adapters, but can't explain/understand how/why.

About the 12-13 gpus rigs, do you know if the MB you use is available in Europe ?
because as far as I know, in EU, the best way to go for 8+ GPUs rigs is for the moment to use the M2 adapters (sometimes both) and PCIe splitters on good 6/7 slots mobos.

More personnally, did you manage to sell easily you old mobos when you switched to the new ones ?

Anyone ever had trouble with M2 to PCI-e adapters ?
I got 2 GPUs dead during last days, each on 2 different RIGS, and each was plugged on the M2 adapter ...

I never got one to work 0 for 3.  So I simply stopped using them.

My first one didnt work, so I removed it.

My second attempt, saw a puff of smoke from the molex connector cables, so I quickly removed that too.

The 4 pin molex connector to power it ... is very very suspicious -- its of very low quality.

Newer adapters uses SATA connector - this should be safer to use.

I have no use for these adapters anymore since I have moved the main rigs to the 12/13 GPU boards.

The M2 slot as an M2 SSD storage experience however was fantastic -
I never seen Windows installed and bootup so fast!

Anyone else excited for Vega this sunday? People have gotten 37mh/s eth on the FE editions and if the cutdown chip goes for $350-$400, we got a new contender.

37mh/s eth, despite poor optimizations + close to 1080ti compute performance. It will be a beast.

Currently I sold all BTC. Only hold ETH, small amounts of various other coins, gear and cash. After Vega release and bitcoin fork issues,if coins has a big dip, I'll buy in BTC.

Else if Vega is priced right, spend cash on vega. Otherwise spend cash on more 1080tis and sit pretty till volta next year. Because I will max out my warehouse's electricity with this expansion. Need to rent a proper industrial unit for future expansion.

Vega may be okay .
 If the price is okay.
I will get one just on account .

While I am excited for the Vega release, shortages will probably be immense at release. Plus with the additional hashrate and ETH still dropping, I'm doubting they'll see much of an ROI ever.. sure if you already have ROI from previous farms and just roll the coins into new hardware it will probably be good.. otherwise.. who knows?

I think electrum is a good choice.
Light, easy, and no needs for backups as long as you keep your words safe.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
But for now I am in a very well backed up core.

which scares me.  as I always fear mechanical failure of the gear.

i have so many backups of the core wallet.dat its ridiculous. i add the coin type (as ltc used the same wallet.dat name) and date to the end of the name to keep them straight.

one drive with backups (all important backups, not just coin related) also goes into my safe deposit box at the local bank. need at least one backup set off site.

trezors rock. paper wallets are nice too. i use both. i keep copies of the trezor seed words and the paper wallets in my safe deposit box too.

Are those prices without taxes, because in eu 1080ti goes for 900-1000€...

all those prices are the result of careful shopping  and are my full cost

the msi my best deal was 699 - 35 = 664 with taxes and shipping
the zotac  my best deal was 669 - 48 = 621 with taxes and shipping
the zotac mini was 750 - 50 + 4 = 704 with taxes and shipping
the evga was 759 +53 = 812 - 50 = 751 with taxes and shipping  I wanted to test it  and after 40 days if it is not good I will return it.

the best price I ever paid for a new card was 639 -63 = 576  that was an asus 1080 ti

the worst price was 720 + 63 = 783 that was the aorus 1080 ti
this was my least favorite card  it hashs fine ,but is big and fat and heavy
my setups  are not designed for a fat card.

I have purchased about 35 1080 ti's so far.
I built multiple rigs  and I sold off a few 1080ti's.

USA Prices can be very good compared to Europe

Just a newbie question again:

Which will you choose: 1070 vs 1080Ti ( I only got 1k so i could only afford 1 card sadly Sad ). After that is which brand should i buy ? EVGA or Zotac or MSI Huh

price matters.

in usa if you are lucky  a 1080 ti can cost 665 usd  I purchased one at that price this week.

so if you get a 1070  for  400  usd  that is a good deal
if you get a 1080 ti for    665 usd  that is a good deal

if your math skills  suck  do this

price/hash

1070    400/425 = 94.1 percent

1080 ti  665/700 = 95.0 percent

about a tie buy either one.

As for

EVGA  I have one so far so good
Msi I have many so far so good
Zotac I have many so far so good.

The evga is this model   I got a 6% discount and 45 days to return it if it has an issue

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/evga-sc2-gaming-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-11gb-gddr5x-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card/5854306.p?skuId=5854306

The msi are this:
https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1080-Ti-AERO-11G.html#hero-overview

The zotac are this

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500415    I paid 699

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814500427   I just ordered it no testing I paid 703

I can say the msi aero at 699  buy it
I can say the zotac fe at 699 buy it

yet to test the  zotac mini
and only 3 days with the evga

yes  and if you use 2 molex cables  not 2  jacks from 1 cable  it can work.

of course  you can not jack the gear  to 200 watts

Running the 1080 ti  at 75% or less  means  .75 x 250 or .75 x 300  that is 187.5 watts  to 225 watts

and that would be about  94 to 112 watts on that  part.  since you have a second  pcie cable doing the other jack  it would do 94 to 112  and of course  if plugged into  a riser a third  cable from a completely different molex could do 75 safe

It should work.

I would worry more doing it with a 1070  supply all the power to the 1070.

I used these back in the day  mining btc  2012-2013  they never smoked but I tend to downclock and undervolt to be safe.

I am assuming you answered the question as though this was being plugged into the card directly.

For powering risers would a double molex be overkill, does a single molex supply enough power to the riser for 100% TDP?  Or would two be safer?

okay  theory is  a riser pulls 75 watts max and a molex  can provide 75 watts max.

now  to go past theory  you need to know  the molex cable you have.

as  that is for 18 gauge  not 20  or 16.

most molex is 18 or 20  gauge not 16.

If I were certain  of three things

 1) molex is 16 gauge
 2) card maxes at 75 watts
 3) psu  has good molex receptacle

I would maybe run  the card at 100%  with 1 riser  to 1 molex

Fact is  the few times I have done it I burned out my molex at the connection on the risers
So I am 0 for 3 .
or 0 for 4.
With hard pushed  cards on a riser with a single molex and or a single sata.

Others will say  they are good.  But I was not.

Thanks Phil legend.  I will only go down the 2x molex on different cables route if I am ever in that situation.

Wow, things are getting more interesting in the very short time frame!

I definitely will not cash any of BTC. Coinbase just sent an announcement to stick to main blockchain. Being in US it is quite a good source to buy BTCs from them.

Phil said that he has coins in Core - so that what I will do too

We are living in interesting time

Note I cashed a lot a week or 2 ago.

But for now I am in a very well backed up core.

which scares me.  as I always fear mechanical failure of the gear.

Phil,

I have a wallet on cloud (from Core) and pwd in mind, so hope everything will be OK.

Thank you!

The Trezor is a very very good device.

I bought the 3-pack bundle as advised - worth every penny.
