Everything under moderation seems fair. Whether it is gambling or some other activity. This will keep ourselves remind on to what extent we can gamble and sets the limit. OP generalized what people should do because of his negative experience with gambling.

Although the intention is good, OP can't just say that generally to everyone as gamblers have different paths they build in doing gambling. There are gamblers who really able to win big and their respective lives change into something spectacular. In gambling there are fortunate and unfortunate and OP falls down on the latter. On the good side, OP being unfortunate in gambling doesn't really unfortunate as that experience wake him up that gambling is really not for them.

Instead of OP focusing too much about giving advice on gambling, OP should now think of his own and began doing a fix on their current situation.

while I agree that gambling is not good for everyone, participating in it in moderation should be fine as long as you only gamble what you can afford to lose. I have been gambling online for several years now and sometimes offline too and I have to say it has been a great way for me to unwind, I won't deny that I had my fair share of gambling problems in the past but I like to think that it is in the past and I can now gamble comfortably without it becoming a problem.

sorry to hear about your story, gambling hobby can really become a problem if it becomes an addiction, it can ruin someone's life and the people around them.

Gambling isn't bad, gambling can also make you happy when you're playing it for entertainment only and not trying to use it as a source of getting income because it won't be able to give you income always and that can make you to become sad. Gambling isn't nice to any individuals that abuse it and that would be the problem with gambling making your father life to be ruined. Gambling don't just ruins your life unless you over gamble and it become an addiction.

When you gamble moderately, you'll enjoy what you're doing. Not everyone has the ability to control how they gamble therefore if you noticed you have an addiction problem then it's better you stay away from gambling and go and do other things that'll give you fun.

It's really sad to empathize with someone who has been negatively affected by Gambling especially the people around them who are most affected by it. Gambling addiction is quite a bad thing if gamblers aren't able to maintain control themselves during every game or gambling session. I've been in the same scenario where I even asked for a loan from my friends to continue my gambling habits which affected my college life back then. For me, it might be a good thing as it happened to me early on and was able to control myself and was able to avoid going deeper into this addiction.

But still, it's not about pleasing everyone that gambling is bad rather you cannot generalize gambling as a bad thing with only from your experience and how it negatively affects you. There are a lot of good stories too that you may hear from a lot of people who experience a life-changing.  Also, gambling is mostly for entertainment and testing luck whether you may win tons of money or prizes, however, people chase too much about these winnings and got addicted while doing so.

I'm sorry about your dad buh, I'mma say this to you; gambling didn't ruin the old man's life.., his limited mindset did .. I believe the mind controls almost all our voluntary actions that connects our emotions.. he's been putting in so much effort to build up with something that's void, instead of investing the little he has in something more profitable.

Of course the addicts will use that $500 for gambling because their mind will tell them to gamble with it so they can turn that $500 into a fortune, but in reality they will lose that $500 and make nothing at all. The gamblers who are highly addicted to gambling will never give up on it and whatever they get they will spend it on gambling activities. I highly agree with you that offering a gambler money won't stop him/her from gambling but I just made an analogy to show that gambling addicts are so passionate about it that they will never stop their activities even if they are offered direct money.

Although I agree that investment and gambling both involves risk but the purpose of both subject is different. You are playing gambling to rely on your luck which gives you a lot exposure on risk or we can say pure risk while investment risk can be minimized and control with proper hedging.

I’m a gambler myself and I play gambling as source entertainment only since relying on it as source of income is absurd due to the high risk involved. The one the makes investment too much risk is the decision making of the investors on what they will purchase. You can have a safe investment method if you will just stick on safer assets investment such as Bitcoin and forget about altcoin.

Just like gambling. The more you become greedy means the more exposure ro risk but both gambling and investment has different take in risk since their purpose is completely different.

His father is not the only one who have made mistakes in life not only in gambling and those people affected picked up their pieces and moved on. I can feel your suffering and I can't blame you if that's how you feel about gambling but you can't please everyone with that. Yeah that's right gambling can really destroy you if you don't have self discipline and self control and that's where your father made a mistake and he didn't think how much it would affect you and your family.
