Yeah Elversberg definitely is kind of the Cinderella story so far this season. But you are wrong about one thing, they didn't go up from the 3rd tier just now, this actually happened in 2023 and there are in the 2nd Bundesliga for their 2nd year straight, claiming the 11th spot last season.
But yeah, they are not really a big name in this league so far, this is just just their 2nd season in this league ever. I doubt they can keep their current performance up but you never know. There is always one big surprise each season and why not them.
In case of a miraculous promotion to the Bundesliga they will have another problem though, their stadium is way too small and only has a capacity for 10000 people. They currently add more capacity but this will only add 3500 standing spots and 300 seats bringing it up to little under 14000 people. To be eligible to host Bundesliga games a stadium must have a minimum capacity of 15000 people.

I have said this before, but will repeat it again that it's unbelievable how many teams are in reasonable reach of the top of the table although 15 games have been played. It#s the same every season that there are no teams being able to set themselves apart. That is why I think that teams like Elversberg have a realistic chance to make it into the top 3. It is not the same with leagues where the top 3 or top 4 are pretty much set in stone before the season begins, but in the 2. Bundesliga it's possible for some no names to come up with a surprise.

Hamburg left important points on the table once again. But yes, if Hertha BSC now looks where they are standing, they are still doing ok if their goal is to get promoted, which it obviously is. That would never be the case for 11th ranked teams after half of the season has been played.

but paderborn remains first in the 2.bundesliga with 27 points ahead of elverberg ( 25 points )

It's been a while since I followed what's happening in the 2. Bundesliga and this time I see an unfamiliar name, Elversberg. I only know teams like Paderborn, Nurnberg, Karlsruher and Eintracht Braunschweig as the mainstays of the 2. Bundesliga. After looking deeper, it turns out that Elversberg is a promotion team from a lower league caste 2. Bundesliga. I was quite surprised to see that they managed to be in the top standings & even had good results in their matches.

It's not the big name that makes them a surprise this season, they are currently in second place and that is also a condition where many other teams are still 1 game deficit such as Hamburger SV, FCK, Hannover 96 & Karlsruher. So, in the next few days we will no longer see Elversberg in second place. The season isn't even halfway through yet, it would be a huge surprise if they could get promoted to the Bundesliga.

Paderborn : Schalke 04 2:4

a very surprising defeat for paderborn and that even in front of the home crowd and against schalke of all teams, who actually had a negative run...
this shows that surprises are also possible in the 2nd bundesliga
paderborn's defeat means that a number of clubs can now catch up at the top of the table...

result today

Karlsruhe : Hamburger SV 1:3

@Soonandwaite I like your Denglish at the beginning of your post "der Hamburger sv" Cheesy Funny accident.

Well the problem for Hamburg has not been to win games in the first half of the season. They were pretty good at it, more or less to be honest. But their specialty is to waste any advantage they have have after 25 games have been played, and then drop out of the promotion zone and lose against teams ranked 13th to 18th. That is the real specialty Hamburg has and no other club has like them.

I could bet that it is going to be the same this season because why would it be other wise?

But what makes me wonder every time again is how close the 2. Bundesliga is. Damn isn't this amazing after 14 games? With one win in the next game, the 11th could jump to the 3rd. I don't know, but this has been like that for so many years now and is it an indicator that getting promoted from 2. Bundesliga is so tough because the competition is so close, the level so close between all the teams?

They have a kind of cut-off from 12th to 13th though, which sometimes even didn't exist and you could literally drop into the relegation zone when actually you looked safe as someone ranked somewhere in the middle.

schalke 04 lost 0:3 at home against kaiserslautern. the disastrous schalker season continues .
✂️

wouldn't have thought that kaiserslautern would be in a promotion place after matchday #14 - but i'm happy about it
it's about time that this traditional club made it back into the highest german league and that the betzenberg is able to host 1st bundesliga matches again
i don't need to say another word about schalke... the club continues to sink into its own chaos

a few weeks ago düsseldorf was still laughing when the hsv lost in elversberg ...and now ?
hannover lose against darmstadt and hertha bsc berlin only draw against ulm . and tonight the match between hamburger sv and schalke 04 .
if hamburg wins, hamburg will jump from 7th to 3rd place

To all the German hardcore football fans here, I am quite confused that nobody thought the insane game between Nürnberg and Regensburg hasn't been worth mentioning immediately! Cheesy As bad as it must feel to be Regensburg fan on the one hand, I think as exciting it must have been to have been in the stadium at all. 35 shots and 19 shots on target with a total of 11 goals. Referee had to decide on more goals than offsides and corners taken together! I love I could have said more goals than fouls, but that was not quite the case. Anyway, sounds like quite a record. I didn't but I guess there have been games in the past with more goals, but it probably comes pretty close!

Surely one of the more exciting games we have had in this league in the last years. Regensburg especially came back to tie it after being down 0:2 to make it 2:2, and then again from 2:3 to 3:3 but then everything fell apart. Must have been a hard blown especially considering how this season is going for them so far.
Really not a good time for Regensburg at the moment, dead last, 4:30 goals in 10 games. If they don't get their shxt together quick they find themselves right back where they have been last season, in the 3rd Bundesliga.
