Am happy that something has been done to prevent this from happening. Too many topics where been made just to promote and give coins out for people to use and try creating   lot of exposure and good vibes about coins when most where just worthless. If people want to do a give away then at least do that give-away on their own site or a place where it can be done. Maybe make a section up just for coin giveaway to keep stuff in one section and no everywhere.

Altcoins are part of the Bitcoin ecosystem. If you ban discussion of altcoins entirely, there will be attempts to promote and discuss altcoins within Bitcoin threads, thus your moderation load may not decrease and the signal-to-noise ratio in the Bitcoin threads be adversely affected. Because where else do you expect legitimate altcoins to go promote and discuss to a wide audience.

There is an algorithmic solution to this dilemma. Require all Alt-coin threads to be self-moderated and send all moderation requests to the thread owner's Messages inbox. Forum moderators would then only be called in to close entire threads in extreme cases. Then make a separate recent posts for Alt-coins, even allow readers to individually configure their account to turn off if they want.

hello Dear, If you have a minute I just wanted to make sure I understand this forum rule a little better. I read most of the thread, but again wanted to make sure my understanding is correct. If giveaway threads are allowed in a sub-forum where the posts do not show up in "recent topics" or "new replies", then what harm would it possibly

if you treat airdrops like advertisments maybe you should make paid subforum for such topics?
On the one hand fees would limit scams (scammers don't like to pay) on the other as someone already said giveaways are very attractive for new users  (and some old also...)

As long as people don't need to post here or in that thread to meet the criteria for it. If you want to verify BCT accounts you can use profile fields, pm's, signatures, or something else like that. Please consider deleting the offending posts and re-opening the thread, since I'm sure they've "learned their lesson

It's much more complicated to find out if something is a scam. You have to question various people, gather evidence, listen to the accused and then do a verdict on whether he's guilty. It also leaves a lot of room for opinion and bias. Someone of the mods could be affiliated with the user suspected of scamming and would ignore certain evidence. Aside form that, moderation of scams gives a false sense of security. Let's not forget that with so many scams, moderation of those would practically be the only thing we'd be able to do.

My main problem with giveaways is the fact that the people participating flood forums and chats with links to the shitty coins over and over and for what, a few coins?

If a coin is really worth investing in then it doesn't have to do giveaways/bounties & airdrops to get people interested. Also, if there is a solid team behind the coin they
will handle the advertising and invites, they wont need greedy little minions to do it for them.

I did have a list going as a curiousity, but at the 214th coin which was Skiencoin or something like that, I stopped writing them down, as I got tired of opening up excel every time I found a new coin and just started making a mental note every time I found an unfarmiliar name. To be completely fair as I said in my last post about the matter, the number is more for representation purposes

I personally was able to get my first bit coin fragments by alt coin giveaways and trading, and getting satoshi dust from faucets.   Being able to get alt coins from giveaways here let me get more bitcoins and thus research and learn more as I accumulated them.  It does seem kinda strange that a place that has recieved what looks to be well over 2million dollars in donations at current exchange rates

its welcome development for now, but checks to remove spam should be made stronger while the give away incentives is also regulated. In as much as insubstantial posts threads r reduced, those substantial post should be acknowledged and encouraged too...

I disagree. It's marketing. I mean they also attract new readers. Why not to control it better?? I mean maybe ask them first to give you certain information before announcing.

Alt Coin giveaway threads are actually the exception, because we wouldn't allow Bitcoin giveaway threads like these anywhere else on the forum. the heir from the legacy must realize bitcoin, has actually playing bitcoin and having bitcoin encounter could possibly get that legacy from you. I would rather say that there should be some hire and jobs section where people can work and then earn instead of getting something for free. So I like it"

I think it was not true actually its pretty good that the company who offers electronic coins in the blockchain market by merely giving give-away in order to attract new investors and promote their business.
You should know on who theymos is in this forum, he's an administrator, he's the boss.
If he said that it's not allowed to do give-away threads then just obey and follow it.
But if you like give-aways, then don't regret if one day you will be banned from the forum.

I think this is a very bad idea and I do not support it. I personally feel as though giveaways are very important to altcoins and deserve their own subforum.

Personally i'm annoyed by all the scammy airdrops...

How about just stay away from all the small market cap non institutional backed stuff. Rule of thumb is if its not on a serious exchange like poloniex, bitfinnex, or binance then its probably a scam

Giveway is allowed because it still has a value in the market, not all but some.
For me the give away thread is their way to catch up more people to be aware in new coins that will be launch in the right time.
People will think to avail more coins if they receive free airdrop once they have been activated their account.

don't understandable
You just need to read the first post made by our big boss, theymos.

You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.
This means that anyone is not allowed to pay someone just to post in specific threads that is causing it a bump.

Someone should just buy (or rent) a subforum of Altcoin from site owners, and the forum is simply "tied" to it (it can even be placed in a completely different domain). Thus, the administrators of the current site should not have managed it, and the owners of new forums could manage and even sub-organize it at their own discretion.
I guess you can do this in some forum's but not here, so breaking any rule that is made by the administrator will put you in danger.
