My advice is to use a part of this money to buy ETH and then invest the rest in alcoins or ICOs
There are so many options what you can do with that money but if you want to get secured profit over time than I can suggest you one project that can get you good profit in a long-term investment

For me $500 is a good start, You just need to diversify your investment into 3 or more different coin, idk the coins you have in mind but I'll advice you to choose either Mantrix network or Dogecoin.

What's the best way to diversify starting with $500. I am overwhelmed right now with all the coins i am interested in. I'm just not sure if i should be only focused on the top 10 or can i pick xxx coin that's ranked between #40-#150. I can say i like about 15-20 coins/tokens i just feel that's way to many for $500. I would like to put half in blue chip coin and invest in some alts with the remaining half. I was thinking put $50 into 4 atls???

I would not invest that amount of money because it is almost nothing on crypto, you are not gonna make a huge difference if you earn a x2 in a near future.
Investing is a risk but diversifying the capital you have may lessen the probability of loss and may also lessen the risk. The more choices and options you have to where you will invest your money will increase your chance to have more profit since not everything you will invest will be a loss there will also be gain. And for that to be possible you should also choose the best coins you will invest in, the coins that has a successful future where it will increase its price based on how it is now.

$ 500 is so little in my opinion. It is better to find a normal job and save money.
