Hi,
i have found a wallet with 40 BTC.
The last transaction was 2011.
Can i take the money?
Or is it not legal?
Please Help!

Best Regards!

You found the keys to a car. Can you take the car? Is it legal?

I guess here in bitcoin the situation is not same because we are supposed to keep our private key in safe place and one who get the private key is considered as the owner of wallet. Its not the fault of julempX to get  the private key of that particular wallet.

I was trying to print them on paper, but something went wrong and printer sign me up on that forum and post my private keys!
I think it was printer.forum.btc new kind of trojan.
So, may i have my private keys back? I'll give you 10% back  Grin

lucky once. maybe if I get a wallet like that, I'll use it when I need to. probably, people who have forgotten the private key to sign in to their account. Well, I guess we can not return it to the people who have it, because we do not know who it is. it could be anyone. If you hesitate to use it, it's better to forget it. but it is very difficult to forget 40 BTC in a short time.

There would be no dumb person on how he post his private keys on public and its really just nonsense to think off that he did just found out that so easily and same as other people said here theres no any picture related to the said wallet that he claims he found out which indicates this is just trolling.

This may be fake. But I have a feeling that the OP is telling the truth. In 2009, the Bitcoin was worth less than $0.001 per coin (as per the exchange rates from New Liberty Standard). Someone could have mined a block and transferred a part of it to a personal wallet. Then he might have posted the private key in some forum. Back then, it was worth just $0.04.

Why would someone post their private key just like that in a forum?
It is just hard to understand how he is putting this.
Even if that was long ago those are bitcoins are loved by their owners. Specially if the owner is a miner.
Well if it is really all true then you just need to take it and enjoy. Which I truly doubt.

It was a private key, i found it in a forum.
Not in the darknet, in the clear Internet.

Best Regards!

You are very lucky. You shouldn't have posted about it here. This "40 BTC" in the title is definitely going to attract a lot of unwanted attention. And mind you, the wallet thieves are getting active once again, perhaps encouraged by the latest rally in the exchange rates. Move the coins to your personal wallet as soon as possible and guard against hacking.

Please consider donating to projects who supports the community, they really deserve this, and without them, bitcoin is nothing, and you wouldn't be able to exchange, trade, play, gamble ...

I strongly second this. If you are going to keep some, fair play but supporting the community is so important to the success of bitcoin.

since the last transaction was from 2011 so it is possible that the wallet is lost but I am not sure, you didn't know who's the real owner of the said wallet so I think it is not wrong if you are going to transfer it to your wallet don't lose the chance to take the money Grin lol I just wonder why you posted a topic like this if I were you I'll never hesitate to get the bitcoin if you are being serious Grin

If you found that wallet with a private keys ,Its a Yes you can take that bitcoins and transfer in other wallet . Congratulations!! Don't be so ethical and take away what you got. I am sure the owner might have forgotten it as the last transaction was on 2011.

40 btc? I would definitely take it by myself and enjoy the shit out of that kind of amount. No point hesitating since who the hell would know who swept what, right? It basically is about your conscience because for me, I would just keep the coins myself and be quiet about it.

But I doubt this story though. Seems fabricated.
Yeah, the story seems false because if he wanted to keep the money then the only thing he needed to do was to transfer that money to a different address that only he controls and move on but he is here asking a lot of useless questions.

I almost buy into the story but as I keep reading the replies and his claim to have been donated 50% of it, it's really making no sense. Like you've found a wallet and then instead of asking who the owner was, you wonder whether you should take it or not. And now you say that you have given 25% of it to the owner, how could you know who the owner is? And if you have a key to the wallet, you shouldn't brag about it unless you want to find the owner.

Wow you are 1 lucky bastard,
Of course if you can transfer it why don't you just do it,
Maybe the real owner already forgot about it.
