Looking for an altcoin that will return you gains better than BTC is not impossible.
First of all, we must recognized that BTC or ETH will continue to rise and there is gains to be made simply by holding BTC or ETH.
So when you buy into an altcoin, the gains must be more than what you can get by holding BTC or ETH else why bother. The opportunity cost
must make sense.
Understanding this, you can then go in search for those rare gems that can return you 10x in a short time which is what ETH or BTC cannot give u. BTC and ETH may give u 10x from this point onwards but it will take years... so hunting for a altcoin that gives u 10x in half a year is a profitable activity.
Look for a use case that justify their application on a blockchain. Look for an altcoin that has a real world demand. Look for an altcoin that is being talked about a lot by investors and big names in the crypto world. If you find an altcoin with these characteristics, I am fairly certain a 10x in 6 months or less is achievable in this current market environment. 2018 will be a boom town for good altcoins.

yes of course it is still very profitable because the most profitable investment is just altcoin you try to imagine with altcoin who have a very good team and have a very good project and use the coin they produce for his project then it is potentially very expensive altcoin and it's easy to get rich.
Do not trust anyone's opinion. You want to invest yourself in summing up your experience from previous price fluctuations. After all, not everyone will pay for the consequences of your investment, only you.
I would definitely consider this coin, it has a niche market and had an amazing start!

Even though alts are down but before investing do make a through study on the progress of the coin and the ANN off course. Sometime bitcoin rising is not the only reason for the altcoin going down. 2018 will be the best for investors! a lot of interesting projects and a lot of newcomers came to the world of cryptocurrency. Prices of some altcoins are growing crazy pace! 
in investing there is a risk to invest but I know that it is still worth it to invest in some alt coins because they still give or offer a good amount of profit of you invest or stock it.
But more alt coin who has big potential and hold it until get high because when you do this the alt coin will be more worth it for you to invest and earn a lot of money . But more alt coin now and earn a big profit someday.

Investing in altcoins is always worth but with the big market cap that the whole market of crypto is reaching we are getting to the point that the amount of icos that appear everyday is ridiculous, even if you dedicated your whole day to only follow icos you will be unable to keep with all the news, so this is making selecting the right altcoins a lot more difficult. 
lolz... why not? although there are some bad news now made the market falling down. But, I always believe that they will recover soon. PKT, Bitclave, TIO are my suggestions for you.
Altcoins are good if have a good plan and good use. If they try to actually solve some problem and they have good people that are working begind the problem. Then they are usefull and people will buy them and they will use them. This will also cause their price to go up.
But many Altcoins are just completely useless and are only created for Pump and dump schemes or get rich quick schemes. They have no real use and their is no team behind the project just a paper and some graphics.
