And stop using the word speculator like it means childmolester or something.
I bougt iota after the ico and yes i speculate on this purchase to make my financial sitution better in the long run one way or the other. I don't feel guilty for that.  i would also donate some in the future when there is some price stability. no problem.

Noone says you should feel guilty, but our goals are different and I prefer if you sell in the beginning so other people with goals similar to mine will replace you. Nothing personal, just business.

Yes. So why throw away IOTA to fund salaries when I can throw away BTC? Further, if the foundation believes that IOTA is more valuable why not hold on to IOTA reserves and fund foundation from BTC donations? I'm not seeing why salaries that will be converted into FIAT need to be given in IOTA???

It would be wise to allow donations in BTC, could we get an explanation on the hesitation for that move?
Thx

Cause iota is much more valuable then bitcoin - it's easy  Smiley

I also have problemes to understand why donations in BTC are not allowed?

how about one step after another.
Finish it. Launch it with a positive vibe. Let it hit Exchanges. See where we end up and stabilize in real live purchasing power. give people the opportunity to donate the whole time. then decide if the collected funds aren't enough incentive to work on when its clear how much wealth they resemble in terms of usd or whatever relatively stable.

And stop using the word speculator like it means childmolester or something.

We can also go the same way as wikipedia (or other foundations) - gathering funds every year.

I'm looking at https://www.freebsdfoundation.org/

Amount Raised: $214,267
Goal: $1,250,000
Donors: 431

And it's also possible to get help from IOT companies using IOTA.

May be David's approach all or nothing is too hardcore - how about this: run foundation until there is funds. If there is no funds - nobody work at foundation.

You know, view this more like funding multiple projects under foundation, not just regular job.

Stas (probably foundation member) is, for example, in Wings project. He will never spend 100% of his time on IOTA.

My asumption was always, start the foundation with 50% founding (2.5% of all IOTA) and collect the Rest during time.
Should be possible, like Nxt was able to collect 10 mio for project Tennessee, 22 Months after the ICO.
There are several other examples that Community is able and willing to spend.

I agree, a 5% premine would suit me fine.

Agree. It´s the best solution.

Yeah, but it's too late. ICO with other conditions was done. Now we have to deal with it.
Agree with you, a deal is a deal!!  Smiley

Now lets go for donate to foundation!!  Cool  (if you can of course)  Wink

Yes as I said I would mean the rules have to be changed a bit. I don't see a big problem.
Again things change, it is how you deal with these changes.

A lot of Iota holders are not very comfortable, this is what is holding up the donations.

I think there are 2 options to speed up the process:
- 5% 'premine'
or
- Iota qt client for easy sending the tokens

I use this http://188.138.57.93/addressgenerator.html set seed to generate a address, and someone send me some IOTAs to my address..
But I did not find any address when I login wallet with the seed,Just find a 'generate a new address' button.
What should I do to receive my IOTA?
Thanks.

Hi coloredcoin,

The 'generate a new address' button is what you have to use to generate a new address. "Addressgenerator.html" was used for ICO purpose only.

@Cfb: everyone who invest in a project is a speculator! You should define precisely who are the speculators you don't like.

I thinks every Iota holder understands that a premine is necessary for the foundation, foundation members need to be compensated for their efforts.

95% of a lot is better than 100% of nothing...

Perhaps a poll vote on this would speed things up?

(I know a premine would be changing the rules a bit, but that's how things work in creative processes.)

What's the problem with donating 5% of your stash?

We all wanna IOTA to be not just cryptocoin, but a thing which will be usable by devices all over the world.

I'm sure that a lot of guys will donate after stable GUI with wallet will come out.

It also may help to add button called "donate" in upcoming GUI  Wink. So wallet user can just press "donate" button, set amount of IOTA he want to send and... it's gone  Grin

and if foundation does not happen, what then? Does IOTA continue?

Yes, but no further engagement from CfB, David, Stas or Dominik Schiener. It's than completely up to the community to develop and marketing IOTA further. One hope is of course, CfB and David need a working IOTA as Software for Jinn. So I expect it will be silent but still somehow developed.

I still have the opinion that a solution like Lisk and Waves have done, would have been the better one (put premine aside for the foundation).
But because that is not possible I will donate now more than I have entered in the Excel sheet to make the foundation happen.

seriously? .... just do a premine of 5% and get on with it guys, why all this angst with voluntary 'donations' and 'speculators are evil' nonsense.

common sense says if you guys need 5% or it's game over, then ffs why didn't you say this before the IPO

Why are you asking for donations on a testnet ?

The donations will be replayed on the mainnet.
