As payment service with fast transactions obviously dead. But as investment mechanism like gold, bitcoin will last quite a long time.
Yeah. Bitcoin can never outmatch altcoins in terms of speed and cost of transactions. But, one thing for sure is that it has been established as a digital store of value with many big investors, and traders becoming interested into it during time.
Seeing that it's been increasing in hashrate in userbase lately, Bitcoin will be here to stay for many years to come. Perhaps, sometime in the future, we will get to see an altcoin like Bitcoin Cash or Litecoin becoming used in mainstream payments with dirt cheap fees while Bitcoin remains as the "gold" standard for many of today's cryptocurrencies. Being a reserve currency, gives it an advantage to remain solid in the markets despite whatever greater technology an altcoin can accomplish.
Nevertheless, I hope that Bitcoin would remain used as a store of value for the long-term. If there is a single node and miner supporting the network, there should be nothing to worry about. Just sharing my thoughts
