a degree doesn't always say something about knowledge or skills....... it almost never does....many people leaving university with degrees are not good educated....also u can get a degree by buying it...some universities only want to earn money.........so  i think degrees will become less and less relevant in the future....

it's just a part. The degree I think is not as important as the work experience.

Not always the case if you want to get into a country business you need the degree. My opinion is that if you get a bachelor go get a master. Because with bachelor you are still "medium smart".

Very good question that I have asked myself many times. Of course it depends on the field, but let's take software development as that is my field. I finished my bachelor studies 2 years late because I started working in a software company on my 3rd year and couldn't juggle both effectively. I knew that most software companies (at least for Web development) don't require any degree, so I was not very motivated to finish my studies. If I could find a great job and advance in it, isn't that practical industry knowledge much better than the theory and outdated stuff they teach at faculty? But I somehow finished the bachelor studies and realised that theory is important to do the job well. Then I was in a position to decide if I wanted to continue with Master studies. I had a great job. I was tired of the academia and how it works compared to companies. So I decided not to go to Master. I'm still happy with the decision, even though I'm always thinking how good it would look on my resume if I for example started a company. So far not one company I worked with even asked me about my education when interviewing. They only seem to care if you have the practical knowledge and skills. Time will tell.

Even work experience doesn't matter much these days. And in some companies in my city, they are terminating the old guys and replacing them with the new guys. In addition to the financial incentive, the HR guys are saying that the new guys bring in fresh ideas as well.

Do you think that master degree is important? I see that many companies nowadays ask for a master degree but still I know many people who had a job without it. Do you think it is essential?

It depends on what you put into value. If you actually value money and sustained living and thriving or just simply earning a pile of money for financial security then you could do away with a highschool diploma and a basic technical no how. But if you really want self improvement and actually contributing something in you chosen field then a Masters degree is the way to go. It would give an opportunity to meet like minded individuals and could actually learn something more than from your undergrad studies.

Advancement opportunities can include moving into managerial or administrative positions and obtaining licensure and certification. For example, according to the BLS, school principals working in a public setting can be licensed as school administrators. Most states require a master's degree to obtain this designation.

As I know it's important in case you want to be in top management. If you are ok being just a regular specialist it's useless. The degree it not important
The real important thing is the learning process and the network.

I think years of experience can equalize a masters degree. If you've been working for several years now and attended several seminars, you have enough knowledge to compete with the ones having masters degree. You know what they say, experience is the best teacher.

some people can get through life without a degree. Done can be rich without finishing school. You see my point here is that you don't really need to have that diploma for post graduate course for you to be someone. Sometimes it just takes a leap of faith, a brave heart and being a street smart in order for you to succeed.

It is important if the position you're applying for would require someone who has a Master's Degree. It's an advantage you would have one since you can demand a higher salary or a better position in a company. It's an edge you have worked hard for and therefore if you have the chance to take or finish a Master's Degree, go for it. You would have just to justify for yourself if you want or need a Master's Degree, your career and decisions are up to you.
