Most people have the mindset that the price of ethereum rises with bitcoin and vice versa. How true is this?
Yes this is true. The price of ethereum is wholly dependent on the price of bitcoin. This is because bitcoin has a very high degree of capitalization compared to the total capitalization of the remaining crypto-currencies. Because of this, pricing dominates bitcoin not only over ethereum, but also all crypto-currencies. Since the level of bitcoin capitalization is falling, someday it will stop and the crypto currency will not depend on the price ratio of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the medium of exchange in the cryptocurrency market as it is a special coin and a valuable coin and set itself as a major coin of the market, this is the quality of bitcoin that people have faith on it so blindly that it has become the supporter of all coins in the market, but some time it did not happen there are so many other factors also.

Yes the price of ethereum is dependent on the price of bitcoin for the most part but let us not forget that there are some other factors that the price of ethereum is dependent on like the volume of ethereum being transacted. The last time the price of bitcoin went up, the price of ethereum did not move with it and that is the evidence that it depends on more than the price of bitcoin.

In my opinion this will not always happen, but in general it can be said so. I think 2018 crypto loses a lot of fiat, and the new community hasn't been able to replace it. So when there isn't much fiat coming in, crypto prices might not be independent, even though when Bitcoin is stable there are a few different trends in many altcoins.

Its dependence is connected with both of them and this impact is too strong not on them only and on the cryptomarket at all, so it is a real problem.

Yes not only ethereum but also other coins price are linked to bitcoin. We can see that all fall when bitcoin falls and all rises when bitcoin rises.

Every altcoin follow bitcoin ups or downs and ethereum is not an exception because same rule apply to all altcoins. Whenever bitcoin start dropping whole market comes to the grip of bears and altcoins drop more then bitcoin and vice versa happen when market is in bulls hands.

Despite its popularity, Ethereum is the same As any other altcoin. All altcoins follow bitcoin as It is the leader in capitalization, which means that the market will follow Bitcoin.

Eth is much more dependent on bitcoin, you can tell with the current market situation. If bitcoin rises definately eth will follow. I must admit that not even eth but a altcoin are bitcoin dependent.

Ethereum prices always follow other Bitcoin and coin prices always keep abreast of Bitcoin prices because now Bitcoin is the benchmark price for all crypto in the market.

I agree! BTC is an e-currency that has the power to govern all other electronic currencies, including ETH. As it raises prices, all Altcoin prices increase and vice versa. BTC is the king of the cryptographic market.

It use to be the case in the past, but the last couple of weeks have seen bitcoin rising/falling and ethereum has not correlated positively, ethereum is now lagging behind by some large margin

Not all the time it is. And maybe, it is just a matter of coincidence given that the majority of the cryptos are currently experiencinh difficulties so it is really hard to determine whether one is dependent with the other or not. But still, both ethereum and Bitcoin are good cryptos to invest so choosing between them would always result to profit especially during green market days.

Not only ethereum but also all alt coins prices are dependent on bitcoin price. All alt coins are traded by following btc trend. And we know that alt price increase only when the btc price is remain stable.

You are absolutely right. The prices of all coins depends of the Bitcoins price. The investors are following Bitcoin and try to predict the market behaviour based on Bitcoins movement.

Does the price of ETH depend on that of BTC? Yes, ofc, but there're many factors which also influence the price of ETH - from teams' announcements to general market trends. Both positive and negative factors form the final price of ETH. There're many negative factors + the market is in crisis, that's why the ETH price has dropped too much!
