There is nothing wrong if you hide your habit and that habit is gambling, there are many
judgmental people there when they hear about gambling or they hear that you gamble. If you're not comfortable with that, it's okay to hide your habit because it's also one of our privacy. Choose who you can tell about your habit, but if you don't have one and you think the best option is hiding, it's okay as long as you don't do anything wrong.

Exactly.I don't think that keeping this habit secret makes a difference but surely playing in a very quiet place without any interference is at least guaranteeing that you are enjoying at the fullest your gambling session.Whenever I used to gamble at work I almost never won and usually lost big,my rage could be felt inside yet I needed to act very well to not let colleagues to know what was happening to me.Also when playing with people around that can be a bad impact on your gambling session as you can lose focus,so the best approach is to play in a very comfortable place to enjoy your gambling session at the maximum and there is no need to keep it as a secret.

I think it's not necessarily about keeping a gambling habbit secret from public view... but choosing the right place to share gambling experiences is still the best practice to do. Some people view gambling as a taboo topic, and rather than disrupting regular conversations because someone dislikes gambling while others enjoy it, it might be better not to touch on the subject of gambling in certain discussions.

Even into our relatives or family, we would really be skeptical on letting them see on what we are doing because once they do saw that you are involved with gambling then they would be

The overall viewpoint of society on gambling activities is negative, not least because they see from the many facts that people end up in bad situations in life as a result of being involved in gambling, although I would say you will still be fine by having the right approach to gambling but still if the public knows that you are involved then they will most likely think that you are one of the people who will be the next victim of this gambling activity.

Therefore I think there is no point in exposing this gambling activity to others especially to people who do not gamble or even who are against gambling activities, because it will only create a bad image from the views of others to you. Actually there are many responsible gamblers who can control themselves, they follow some rules and limitation too and then do Gambling for fun. And thus gambling doesn't affect much in their life or their relationship. So they might be wonder why they keep it secret? Actually some addicted people presents gambling in a bad way to people where these addicted are steel money, force family members for money, sell out property even take lots of loan for covering gambling cost. And people also notice the changes and problems what a gambler face. And this is why people don't like gambling even will blame a gambler for many reasons where gambler isn't gulity at all. People are considering gambling as a criminal activity because it is a reality that gambler never think about others and they think that if they stop gambling then there will be no money with which is an apposite situation. If a person leave gambling then there are lots of other doors open for him to earn and make him able to return all the borrowed money but realising this thing is important for gambler.

In our society no one want to make a relationship with gambler because he drop the belief of everyone. Gambler if starting gambling and loss money then next step for him is always selling of useful material after which they become a criminal person who just make their family discomfort.

I believe gambling is treated differently in all parts of the world, other places are so religious such that they see gambling as sin as it's a breeding ground for greed, stealing, suicide etc, in other parts of the world gambling is all fun and games and nobody has a problem with it, and in other parts of the world its new territory that has been treated as a way to make money and maybe a living from it...and if you ask me whatever comes from gambling is the responsibility of the user.

With all what's been said above, if gambling won't affect your social life if others knew you gamble then no biggie but if it can get you in trouble then better keep the habit a secret.

Honestly, people in my colony, tag gambling as if it is kind of a criminal offence. It hurts many people's sentiment, religious beliefs and they are witnesses of some violence In society due to gambling. I saw many gambler who lost their mentality and become aggressive to collect capital even attacking family member after losing game. What also effects neighbours and society people badly and that's shameful activity too. That's why a person need to be a responsible gambler and need healthy mindset. Moreover, it isn't possible to change people mindset, so for avoiding problems, better to keep it secret from family and society

The different reasons why we tend to keep it a secret, definitely will differ. I don't expect anyone to be the same. Yet, in the context of Op's thread, he made a nice point. Why not be open with our habit? There is a response above about, people hiding it due to the favor they'll need in future. What the helper would think of the gambler, could hinder the assistant they're meant to render to this player. Hence, it's not a must to keep it a secret, if we are, on our own, successful gamblers. Who will never ask anybody for money financially. Because when you don't have funds and need one as a gambler the person's first thought, would be he'll use the money to gamble. This is typically how people behave and it's indeed a bad attitude. So, I understand your own idea, because the way we behave still matters, even as gamblers. Not minding what people would say, is still a nice form of living our daily life. Individually, it'll sound dull not to speak about gambling when asked to, due to the response people around would create. Regarding their beliefs and religion. There exist multiple good aspects of gambling, but people fail to share it with the public. The criticism gamblers face today is because the bad publicity surpasses the good aspect of gambling. It all depends on the person, if he has the same friends with the same habits, namely like gambling, maybe they tell each other but not with just anyone. First of... People will always have something to say about whatever you're doing, u bet if you're doing a regular job, waking up every morning, making sure you're at work at most 8 am every morning, you'd be surprised to know that people would still say shits about you, so putting other's views afront would be a very toxic decision. I'm not saying you're above criticism or you're above being adviced, all I'm saying is that you have the right to handpick the critics and don't let your life be defined by what others say or think about you. Anyways, concerning gambling, lots of people have individual reasons why they choose to keep their gambling habits confidential, I really don't think it's always about what people would feel or say about you (except you're an addict).

I want to take myself for instance, I don't go around telling people I gamble, or you won't even suspect I gamble not because I'm hiding from people's view or what their personal attitudes are about gambling or because I'm ashamed of what I do, no, I choose not to make it know simply because I live a very private life and whatever I do is my business, but if I'm ever asked if I gamble or if I'm to give advice regarding to gambling, I'd gladly do so and not deny the fact that I'm a responsible gambler.

Since gambling is a bad addiction and a bad thing in the eyes of society, I think in all cases it should be kept secret. And if you keep the matter of gambling a secret, it will not be defamed in the society.  Now gambling is very easy to keep secret because gambling can be done anywhere using a smart phone. Which is very easy to keep cigarettes from others. Especially because no one ever grabs someone's personal smartphone without permission.

Actually I would agree with you that it can be different from person to person in terms of whether they keep their gambling a secret or share it with their loved ones or family. I think there are some negative aspects to both sides, like if someone is an addicted gambler but wants to keep it a secret, there is more harm than good here. On the other hand, if someone has won a jackpot and people around him already know that he gambles, then he may suffer from jealousy. But my personal opinion is that if someone is not addicted to gambling and gambling does not have any bad effect on his personal life then I don't think there is any reason to secretly gamble.
