We live in a society where people have different views about something and these views could be drawn based on different constituent like personal sentiment, religion, ideology and experience. But why continue in what you're not proud of by keeping it secret cause maybe you're worried about what people may say, how their thoughts about your person might change. Or how you might loose ties with someone you hold dear to. And many other reasons that follows.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.

Gamblers have a habit of keeping silent about their hobby if they gamble, but simply lose money and waste time, receiving only emotions in return from the gambling service.
And if a gambler is successful, it will be difficult for him to keep his mouth shut with his friends, because as a rule, those who love their personality, those who are self-centered, stay in gambling. And such people really love to show off to others and receive praise and recognition. Perhaps this is even more valuable to these gamblers than money. I don't think gambling in this era is a bad habit anymore. Traditionally, my family doesn't like gambling but we are in a country where gambling is used to get contributions and fund a dead man's burial. But my family didn't like gambling so the wake of my grandfather was in a place where it is prohibited.
Do I keep it a secret on my mother's side of the family? Yes. But with a wife, it is not a secret. She knows everything and that includes even a $1 bet especially if it is about a sport that she likes too.
It is against our religion but in our beliefs, it is up to a person if he or she will abuse it, then it is wrong.

You are right because they do not want to accept criticism or suggestions, even from their immediate family. But if we are his close family, we must continue to try to approach him so that he can see our sincerity in trying to help him overcome his gambling addiction. Sooner or later, he will realize that he still has his family who will always support him to be able to cure his gambling addiction, especially if he can see that there is more support coming from other families.

Some would really be having that introverts and some are really just that too showy, each person is different on different cases.This is why we do see different approach and actions been made basing up on someones
point of view on which there are people who do really value much about their figure or reputation and there are ones who dont really care as long they are really that enjoying on what they are doing.

Recently I had an incident with a gambler, this guy is a trader and he has been into trading for quiet a good period of time and has really made a fortune out of it, he is aswell prominent in my country ad many people has been under his mentorship and have turned out successful as traders aswell.

Over the week he did placed a bet on Chelsea to win Manchester city because he said he is a Chelsea fan and that's his way of showing his support and love for his team, so he did put up a post about it on his X-social platform(formerly known as Twitter) and so many persons rushed under his post to criticize and stereotype him for gambling, then I understood why people do keep their gambling habit a secret, because people hardly believe others can aswell gamble for fun and still be responsible enough. They usually think gambling comes with irresponsibility meanwhile out there are responsible gambler's unknown to them.

There is nothing like not proud of what they are doing. Gambling is not meant to be public or telling people or allowing people to know that we are gamblers. The fun part is that Many of the billionaires of real gamblers and it can be very hard for people to know except they decided to let the public know or someone exposed them. Gambling is meant to be out of the knowledge of your family. There are great gamblers and most time they tried as much to keep their family out of the reach of there gambling activities. Gambling is not something we need to say we are proud of but everybody do that.

In some places of the world, gambling is still an illegal act and at that, and the government have laws in place that may punish their citizens who engage in gambling and that is what has made them to hide or gamble in private places.

Just like drugs that are banned, those who use them always hide using them, but also too we have those who may not feel comfortable gambling in the presence of others and at that, and they tend to gamble only in their spare time at the privacy level.

And there are some places in which even if gambling is not illegal it is considered to be an activity people should avoid, so if someone else in that kind of place found out that you were gambling there could be some repercussions, like losing a few of your friends or not being able to receive the chance at your job to move forward on your career, so anyone that lives in a place like that needs to be very careful about not revealing they gamble to anyone at all.

If keeping some things private doesn't make people dare to point fingers against us then I think it's better to keep those things private. Whether you are earning money by gambling or you are losing money by gambling, your neighbors will discuss and criticize you. Where money is yours, people will make negative comments about you. If people's negative comments don't make you mentally weak then it's not a problem but if people's words make you mentally weak then it's better to keep the work you are doing private.

There are many societies that don't look favorably on gambling, so if you gamble in those societies and tell everyone about gambling, people will look down on you and people may look down on you. To avoid such bad situations, you can keep your gambling secret.

therefore I say ignore my advice if it does not make you comfortable because as I said above I respect the decisions of other people opinions because I dont know for sure what your family environment is like. and above I also said that there is a possibility that it is due to religious factors that you have to cover up your gambling activities.
