For what so ever reason merit is not supposed to be sold or bought online. The original function of merit is to be given as a reward or appreciation for a good and intriguing and quality post.

Merit ia supposed to be appreciation for a good post selling it should be highly prohibited as it will encourage low quality post. Let only deserved quality post be awarded merit

That's bad idea on your head. if you mind merit source will be listing on exchange and some of member here bought some to follow up them rank here, it is very confused. merit aren't blockchain, you can't trading it and compare into your self. Trading merits in this forum is something we should not allow because this can be counterproductive to the intention why we have this system implemented right now. Though I have to be honest that the merit affected me just like many of us here, we have no choice but to unite with the forum on this thing. We should not buy and sell merits as this is against the policy of the forum and this can never be helping the forum in anyway. Admittedly though, it can be difficult to impose this policy against trading because transaction can be taking place outside but then we can determine with the quality of the posts if one is deserving of a merit or not.
if other people do able to self-rank inspite on starting on lower rank then why wont other members can also do that thing? They do just really like to have less effort work thats why
some people do end up on buying or trading up merits which isnt really allowed on this forum yet this is considered as cheating.
Yes, the merit system has brought up quality posts encouraging posters to think, analyze and update the team with more quality information. I am sure many have set examples in the forum, upgrading ranks with high merits acquired with best quality posts. Must be highly appreciated.

That's bad idea on your head. if you mind merit source will be listing on exchange and some of member here bought some to follow up them rank here, it is very confused. merit aren't blockchain, you can't trading it and compare into your self. Of course when we can make quality post then it is not important to buy some merit we can get our own, we only have to work hard and earn without own effort, those people who ask for buying or selling merits should be ban from the market, bitcointalk is best forum where I never say anyone buying or selling merits.

Trading merit (buying and selling) is like an account farming, no difference. Merit buyers want to rank up without making something useful for community (like helpful posts) and the sellers of course have done inappropriate thing, which makes this forum worse. However merit giveaway is not a bad thing, you might get merit for doing something useful but after that it will be like you've made something fake or not really natural.

What is the point of buying measures, to pay money for it? How much need to be lazy and useless that would not be able to bring at least some kind of benefit to the forum community.
Very interesting to see the reactions to the newly introduced concept of merit as an additional indicator of account maturity and quality beyond just pure number of posts / activity. While this was introduced to increase post quality it has of course created a counter movement and a market place for "trading" merit - for money.
So this is just a reminder for everyone that the introduction of merit is a GOOD thing because it will help improve the quality of this forum for everybody.
"Trading" merit will undermine this and render it eventually useless.

I just don't understand why anyone would be trading merits, but whatever, the bitcointalk organizers made it that way, cause if they never made a way for people to exchange merits then people wouldn't be doing that, it's because they made it easy for people to do such things, so everyone would be doing it until they stop it. And I wouldn't really such people cause everyone is looking for a way they can make money. Most of people who find themselves in such situations are usually tempted to do so. When you have nothing to do and you have no money, you will be forced to.So this is just a reminder for everyone that the introduction of merit is a GOOD thing because it will help improve the quality of this forum for everybody.

Most of people who find themselves in such situations are usually tempted to do so. When you have nothing to do and you have no money, you will be forced to.

Are you sure they are banned from trading merit? I guess that is not their punishment, they might have negative feedback by DT members if they found out that merit trading or even selling. Both the sender and the receiver will possible have tagged by DT members. I am happy now with my rank even I did not get even single merit, at least I know I'm not a merit beggar and also I am not shitposter. As long as we can help here and doing abusement is not necessary.

And when you see some members and the merit they have and compare that with posting it's quite obvious that merit didn't come from that. People always find the way how to abuse good ideas, that is sad.
advantage on the system as long it can give out edge and benefit towards the.About that merit trading,these people do usually get red trust
between the sender and receiver but this is only if the case do have sufficient evidence but DT's dont easily judge out unless if its really an obvious one.

It depends on the case bro 1 merit I think is not an abusive thing. Sending 1 merit to a user who sent you 1 merit is not an abusive to the merit system especially if the topic/post that merited really deserves to be merited. If the user 1 send a merit to user 2 and user 2 find a post of the user 1 that is helpful or constructive and also contributes to the forum then that is not abusing.

Always we need to work on making good posts by helping the OP's question, assisting someone on their technical issues.
These things will automatically earn the merit for your efforts. nothing else needed.

The intention to implement merit in this community is good and pure. It is purposely lifted to filter out the good-quality posters from the spammers to maintain the high standard of this forum. But sad to say, many people here engage in buying and selling of it or are just giving it away for friendship's sake, and this is so unfair to those who are striving to get one. I understand that it's a plus point if you have one, and if you are a newbie with many posts done, it gives you the privilege to join signature campaign since it will promote your status to junior member. But please, give your merit only to those who are qualified and deserving. We can help contribute productively to this forum if we'll not pollute it and let polluters in.
