And another day has passed, apparently without any progress...

Does anybody know why the "account verification system" was taken offline earlier today? Did Nefario get a smackdown from the other shareholders, did his lawyer suddenly tell him not to do it, or did he just suddenly realise that nobody would trust him with that info any longer?

Anyone with some knowledge would like to shed some light on it?

Considering that scanning an ID (Personalausweis) is illegal in Germany, I would guess it might have to do with his requiring Germans to scan their ID.

Asset issuers: Check.

Actually for some asset issuers this may be a lucky strike: they got money and probably will not have to pay back nuthin.
So much luck that someone rightly suspects that some of them may be co-conspirators.

Hm, well there is that.

However, if the issuer's plans in any way hinged on the continuing liquidity of their offered shares (as pretty much any honest plan would), they're still screwed in that regard.

Free coins are nice, though they can't (honestly) feel too good about how they came to possess them.

They will also surely have to deal with victimized users asking for their coins back, or shares, and will have no way to verify any claim.

Really it sounds like the only ones to truly benefit are any who were not on-the-level in the first place.

Anyway, wake me up when some crook pays up (in one way or the other).

I just had a call with James, and he has said that there should be a way to claim what yours on GLBSE within a day, and everything in terms of shareholder info and people getting their btc back should be resolved this week.

He definitely could have closed the exchange a bit more gracefully, but according to him, he doesn't want to hold the high amount of liability he has attained any longer.

So let's stop the fud for a bit, and see how this week goes.

Best of luck to everyone involved,
Garrett

Notice he said when you can make a claim, but  nothing about when things would be returned.

Take the estimate and multiply by 2-5.  This is more realistic as most people usually overestimate their ability or quickness.

Whoa, you gonna hire a posse to put everyone that is posting positively about Nefario in their place?

If that place is the looney bin, that seems about right.

Srsly, how could anyone involved hold a positive opinion of Nefario right now, with all that's happened?  The lies upon lies, the utter lack of any credible information given, the series of inappropriately unilateral actions taken, etc.  Is there anyone here he hasn't screwed at this point?

Regular users with only BTC on deposit: Check.
Regular users who hold shares on GLBSE: Check.
Asset issuers: Check.
Shareholders in GLBSE itself: Check.
GLBSE Officers and board members: Check.

Am I forgetting anyone?

How indeed?

@HorseRider- Son, if you think any one of the gangsters who have ripped this community off to date is ever going to borrow funds/bitcoin to pay anybody back, you need to hie your happy ass back to the newbie forum and start reading from the beginning. Screw the English police- James wants to play at gangsters? Let's have some hard boys speak with him and see if gentle persuasion will loosen his grip on the money that isn't his. We have had threats of serious physical harm for far less than the amount that James has locked up here. He has done nothing to indicate that he is going to return those funds, other than to produce a tired set of lies all too familiar to the victims of other bitcoin scams here. Being an apologist for a scumbag is not a popular position with me, unless James takes massive action to rectify this situation IMMEDIATELY, he, and all his supporters, are equally guilty in my consideration. Quit wasting your time here, and work on getting his ass out of the situation.

The shareholders offered Nefario the option of stepping down as CEO and selling his shares back to us, but he refused. So it's not just that he doesn't want to hot the high amount of liability he has attained (of his own volition) any longer.

@LoupGaroux

Speaking aloud won't help if nefario is really scamming.

It will be very easy for this community to sum up all the information we need to ask England police to visit at Nefario's house. I think setting up unregulated security exchange is surely a crime in England, especially will arouse the attention from authority if lots of people claim to be the victims. If Nefario is sane, he won't let that happen.

If everyone gets their bitcoin and assets back and GLBSE close without disputation after all, there will not likely anyone report to the police, nor the police and authority will have the motivation to look into the past seriously as there is no victims.

The only problem is that maybe Nefario has being short Bitcoin as Priate40 does. He just does not have enough bitcoin in hand right now. But even if this is true, he will have motivation to borrow money to buy bitcoin and give it back to us.

Gosh, thanks Garrett and HorseRider for that helpful and sincere approach to fixing this problem.

Not.

James McCarthy has criminally seized a significant store of value that is not his. His actions have not been honest, open or even rational in how he has done this. He has diverted assets to his own benefit, and has broken off communications with the other owners of this venture that he has allegedly seized control of.

How is this FUD? How is that something we should wait and be patient about? He has lied repeatedly about what he is doing, has consistently operated this venture like an utter incompetent and has pulled every excuse in the world out of thin air to explain away his criminal fumbling. What you should do instead of having polite chats with him and commiserating about how harsh the bitcoin community can be, is to hold him accountable, and if you are the friends that you claim to be, demand that he do the right thing, quit playing around, be honest and release all the information and funds back to the rightful owners IMMEDIATELY.

That's what friends would do. Lying bastards and scum as dirty as him would urge restraint and patience. It's a matter of collapsing it. Or better yet- returning control to the majority owners so they can collapse it and get everything back to the investors and asset creators. That's a couple of clicks with the mouse, or a short email to theymos and company.

This latest scam of demanding unconscionable amounts of personal information to release funds, information that was never required to set up the accounts in the first place, and has no legal requirement to be demanded is just the same sort of slimy, lying, dishonest stall tactics that bitcoinica employed. I expect James is in active negotiation with a group of Nigerian 419 experts to sell all of this identification data to them so they can continue the fleecing that he has begun.

Call your buddy up and tell him to do the right thing NOW. Quite playing at silly buggers fucking around with all this grown up sounding legal bullshit and give people their funds back. He is way over-matched by the task, and he is about to reap the whirlwind. Take your voices of delay and patronization for his victims and pound sand. Or be considered as scammy as he is by this community.

wow, you guys never learn. he fucked everyone. hopefully he's fucked...

I think the price he is going to pay is far more than 8000BTC IF he just scam us bitcoin away. So, I bet, Nefario won't do that. Let's see what will happen.

Thanks Garrett (I guess). Btw, you should update your websites, things are no longer being traded on GLBSE...

And actually, following this thread will end up costing me more than what I have/had on GLBSE.
No more fud for now...

For Nefario, I don't think the speed is as important as keep good communication with the trusted and nice-to-talk forum members to update the progress and status of the closure. And he should discuss with lawyer or other GLBSE shareholders before he give the solutions. I don't think discussion with friends and consultants is harder than facing the criticism on this forum.

Ideally he should only be talking to his mum, who possibly can still stand him.
