Back in the days i tried these wifi adapters but because of the high risk of electric hazard i stopped using them. There is even customer pic on amazon what could happen.

The issue with those adapters is that they aren't meant for mining rigs pulling 1500 Watts of power constantly. They probably rated them for 15 AMPS because they assumed most people would pull less than 100 Watts from them. If you open them up you will see poor soldering jobs and see a fire risk.

I had a similar issue with a Kill-o-watt I ended up killing. Basically used it for years and for a few times went close to 1800 Watts or so, no issues. I only used it to measure power NEVER left it connected constantely. Then one day with a few Antminers I forgot about it being plugged into the wall, after a few days of 1500-1600 Watts I disconnected it and it was melted on the plug.

For my 23 rigs I use these wifi adapters to reset my rigs from my iPhone, once my rigs are dialed in I don't do any manual resets.  I've gone weeks without touching my rigs.  I've also found the AMD RX 5000 series seem to crash more and cause more problems then my NVIDIA rigs.  If i do any additions it makes me rethink my AMD plans, using a little more power to have a rock solid rig that rarely crashes is a big bonus, up time is huge.  I have 4,900 m/s on eth and a  5%-10% downtime is hundreds of dollars a month.

I use these wifi outlets https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q2P77JL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use these to adapt the wifi outlet to the 240 cable l https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IBIC1XG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

a lot depends on rig size all of my rigs use less then 700 watts. which is 3 amps at 240 volts.

Since I use simplemining I could buy his rig resetter.  But for now I am running five rigs in my house

Yeah, i was using those TP-Link HS110, i think i was dualmining that time so the wattage might have been little bit higher than that.

So I am a gamer who is into FPS games like siege valorant and apex . Tried preordering RTX 3080 after I heard its gonna be a great product to mine BTC with .

The pre-order went like a shitshow and unfortunately I couldnt checkout anything . I already have a 2060 Super 8GB which I mostly use for gaming and its pretty good for mining too but it heats up a lot more than when I use it for gaming since its not that much of a pretty setup .
Thats the reason i'm planning to buy 2 3080 to create a dedicated mining setup .

Then I read an article online comparing the use of FE graphics cards vs using used up chinese graphics cards to mine and as a conclusion I thought I could just hold my thought of making a new mining setup with 2 3080 and wait till I can get some used up 3080 chinese card to create a setup .

is this the right decision to make ??

I know it could take a some time before these things are available but I think the end results will be worth it .

No GPU is worth didley for mining BTC.
The crapcoin alts - sure, but forget about mining BTC with it.
Along those lines the proper area for posting about altcoin stuff is here. This one where you posted is for BTC only.

you are going to be moved to alt coins or deleted .

this board is for directly mining etc with an asic machine.

you want to go to my thread in alt coins and read up on using a pool like nice hash to mine an alt coin then have nicehash conversation it to btc automatically.

my thread.

note I asked the mod to move you to alt coins.

I loaded internet connection monitor on chrome on both teamviewer pcs

so far the internet has not failed in a week on either connection.

i talked with ty from simplemining he thinks it is a possible driver bug 🐛 for the amd 5600 or amd 5500

sofar they are up.

Do I interpret this correctly as you've identified a possible SMOS stability issue with 5500/5600 cards and it wasn't internet connection issues causing your rigs to go down?

maybe still not sure, but maybe.

it would be msi 5600 or msi 5500

it goes to reboot and hangs.

teamviewer lets me ssh in and I can reboot that way.  but I can not reboot from the simple miner website.

the beta version with wifi seems to not have the problem.

Phil,

I picked up a 5600 (the deal you linked to on Newegg), to play with to see if I want to get more.

Did you update your BIOS or just run them like they came? (I didn't see where a BIOS was available for this particular SKU)

I tried it on HiveOS and it would only hash at 13MH @45W.  Kinda weird.  Threw it on a Win10 rig and got around 40MH.  Not sure about power usage since HWiNFO is reporting about 90W, but Awesome Miner (AM) is showing around 115W.  Not sure which is right...  This is using the settings you recommended.

Might try putting it on a SMOS rig next to see what I get.  I'm mostly running Ubuntu 20.04 on my rigs and controlling them from AM.  I purchased a 20 rig license back in 2017 before Patrick went monthly fee per rig like everyone else.

Almost scored a 3080 yesterday.  Had it in my cart at nvidia.com, but when I got my payment info entered and submitted, I got an error that my address could not be left blank.  (it was not blank)  I guess server issues.  Will keep F5'ing over the weekend and into early next week, and then turn my attention to the 3090 if I don't score by then.  lol

ps.  Still on the fence about selling my GTX 1000 GPUs.  Made almost $160 with them yesterday...

they do 39-41 on smos. 85 watts on smos but more at the wall.

yeah tough to sell all your 1080ti's. but putting some up for sale could work.

I think 3 for 900. should sell fast on marketplace. It can't hurt to list 3 that way.

I am having a network issue a lot of my smos rigs went down.

but  I have optimum and Verizon at the farm.

So I am driving up there to move the 10 gpu rigs to optimum .  there are 75 asics on the Verizon and now 10 smos I think I want all smos on the optimum

You should get a router or firewall that will work with redundant connections.  One goes down and it will fail over.  You could add a switch that lets you remotely change which isp the machine is connected to.

play with nice hash for a few days see  what is best.

I used to search the best coins to mine, best app miners, best time to exchange the coins, of course I had a lot of cards in the past, but now I only have 1 rig, and mining with Nicehash, it's so easy and free of problems that I regret not to use before
It's more stable, I don't care about changing coins, I only do an withdraw every week and hold in BTC

Pointing to nicehash is the best decision IMO if you're in doubt

What do Nvidia miners mine at this point? I guess ETH is not as profitable as others.

I am interested in mining with few 2080 S and I am not sure if I should just make it easy for me and go Nicehash or look the other way and go with (more profitable?) Gminer/T-rex for RVN?

The reason why they want to perform this reduction is because they know it won't affect security because right now ETHUSD is higher than say $80 bottom AND there is more per block in terms of fees, hence its much more profitable to mine.

So if they decrease the miner rewards they are pretty sure they will still have people mining it like they did when it traded at $80 per coin. However I wouldn't worry just yet, the EIP might not pass, but you never know. Generally they are always late on updates so even if its included in an upgrade it might take a while before it actually goes live.

I don't know enough to know if EIP-2878 has a chance to pass or not but even if it was 6 months out it would kill any incentive to buy new cards.  Right now a $350 RX 5700 is 262 days to break even so you will never make your money back.  A 75% reduction in earnings equates to a 10 cent a day profit, lol.

Now the money is free, and so the people will be
75%...well i am optimist and i think mining always finds a way.  Unless you have a bunch of Polaris/older cards...that might be difficult going forward.  On another note, I have one 5700/xt that indicates 117w gpuz/ 135w wall and another brand that indicates 83w gpuz but is 130w from the wall....I thought that was kind of weird, dont remember seeing that with another gpu type

Did you guys see this?  Won't a 75% reduction in rewards will kill mining?  I was planning on replacing my old cards with newer cards but this has put a damper on my plans.

The new EIP-2878 would reduce block rewards by 75% and has received sharp criticism from miners who say it will compromise the network’s security.

https://medium.com/@omgfin/shock-ethereum-miners-against-proposal-to-reduce-block-rewards-by-75-a62c16faa081

Well if they do it and blocks drop to 0.5 coins it will shake things up a lot.

It would hurt gpu miners big time.

Eth developers are basically morons if they crush the gpu card buyers.  But they did do it once so they could do it again.

Time will tell.  When is it due Nov or Dec?

Maybe miners should form a union and go on strike for higher pay. Wink
