I think those who get COVID shots are giving a lottery prize of ten million dollars to all the citizens of the country. Be brought under the ticker if the vaccine is sent to protect tens of millions of dollars in hospitals and people in the community who have not been vaccinated then the risk of the virus will be reduced there are many patients in the hospital who are suffering more due to a lack of proper treatment. It is not possible to cure the virus with the right tactics so there must be a system of vaccines to reward them.

I guess spending $1m for a lottery prize is better compared to allocating tens of millions in hospitalization funds for those still refusing to take the vaccine. It's a good way to encourage people to take the shot and as long as it's not mandatory, I guess it's okay for Ohio to continue pursuing this. Surprisingly, a lot of people in the US are still oblivious to the medical importance of vaccines albeit it protecting billions of people for the last few decades. It's sad  that the government have to resort to this tactic in order to get their population inoculated whereas on other countries, they'd do everything to take the shot and not endanger people around them.

I don't have any objections in state governments encouraging their citizens to take vaccine. But what is the need for this monetary compensation? Citizens must be thankful to the government for making the vaccines freely available to them. It is shameful that a section of the population refuses to take the vaccine and the state government has to resort to these tactics to get everyone vaccinated. If the US is having surplus vaccines, then please send them to third world countries. Why force someone who don't want the vaccine.

The local government seems to have the money to spare so they are launching this lottery, but this is not right and instead, they should educate their people about the importance of having a vaccine for their lifetime protection against CoVid, it's not for the government's good and benefit, they are the one and their family will benefit from this, while people from other countries are demanding their government for a vaccine yet people from Ohio are hesitant.
Maybe that is because a level of awareness from people about the vaccine is not too high so they think that the vaccine can not help them protect their lives from the virus. Or people do not want to get a vaccine so the government is launching this lottery to invite people to have the vaccine. Maybe the government needs to take another approach to their people while the lottery can still running. They can educate their people to understand that the vaccine is important for their bodies.

The step taken by the government might be one of the efforts so that the people would be vaccinated. Will and be a return. However, could anything else behind him? Why did they do this? And is it indeed the community there does not agree to be vaccinated so that the government has given that a reward? And is this ethical using a lottery card related to vaccines?
In my opinion, the only and main motive for the government to do this is to encourage their citizens to get vaccinated.  They also think only of safety and to be given protection against the virus, but of course, it is not mandatory, so I see nothing wrong with it.

They are lucky because they have enough vaccines for their constituency.  While other countries in need are in short supply.

This is a good way to get people vaccinated and will also help other business establishments to go back to normal. The risk of getting covid in that town will surely decrease as well as mortality rate. But even if they are vaccinated I hope they don't get confident that they won't contract the virus again or else the lottery's effort will go to waste. I don't know why some people still hesitate to get the vaccine, their mind is filled with misinformation from social media. People who died when they got the vaccine are only isolated case and most of them are already old so they are not able to handle the side effects, if you are old enough, for me it is better to not get vaccinated for now.

Don´t people find just difficult to believe that you need to incentivise people to do something that will make them safer? I think that a lot of this has to do with the narratives that have been ongoing during the last year, and the grade of irresponsibility of the previous governor and previous president that, for all that matters, took the pandemic as an act of God that should simply be endured. No wonder now there is such a problem with convincing people to get the jab.
I don't think the government is one of the main reason why people are discouraged, from my observation it's about the misinformation that's spreading and some people are quick to believe in what they hear and eventually they lean on to that side that's why it's becoming hard for the government to convince some of the people to get the vaccine. I even remember hearing one guy saying that he doesn't want his kids to get the vaccine because their immunity is already strong which sucks since he's not looking at the bigger picture.
People doesnt really have the same kind of mentality when it comes to things, some are open minded and some are not and just stick out on what they do believe.
Its not that they do easy to believe but rather there some basis in regards into those things that they have seen on recent events or news which they do solely
focus out on the side effects that it may give and this is why people would rather choose on not to get those shots or vaccine rather than
on getting the risk on getting those side effects that they had seen on some people.

In my opinion, maybe because there are some things that are considered so that they impose it. Indeed, the vaccine is being discussed and always becoming pros and cons. There are many people who agree to carry out vaccines, but not a few are opposed because of the vaccine choices used. Some other people feel afraid of the negative effects of the vaccine that might cause side effects, pain, abnormalities, to death. It also happens in my country, the pros and cons of the vaccine used.

What do you think of this? Do you agree with what the governor of Ohio is doing or are you against it?

as a guy who wanted to get vaccinated so I can be more at ease, yeah I am fine with it. these incentives are just a bonus for me. also, I agree with what Darker45 said it would be better to lower the winning amount and to increase the number of people that can be picked as a winner. although, getting a chance of winning $1million has a better ring to it than winning a $100k. I wish my government would do the same.
^ This is the way they encourage their people to get vaccinated because not all people as of now wanted to be vaccinated at the moment. Because they are afraid of the vaccine since it is not yet proven how effective and it is under monitoring stage which is considering for me not safe. A good strategy for their government to lure people and decide to be vaccinated, if all country will do the same, I don't think if there is hesitation to those people who doubted the vaccine if you have a chance to win a thousand of dollars and I hope not only one winner only.
Myself wont really be still that confident on taking a shot.It takes years or long time before it would be prove to be effective or doesnt really impose any side effects. Its understandable that majority of people are still afraid because of the risk of side effects which can really be plausible. If this is the way that their government to encourage its citizens then i can say that it is a good initiative for them to do so.
Its up to someone if they would get convince on this kind of method or just simply ignore and wont really be that fascinated about those chances on w inning a million.

Lucky for those who do reside into that particular country on where they do have this kind of lottery ticket or entry once they do get vaccinated which is indeed a bonus.

The primary motive here is to ensure up your health against the virus on which is the main priority for now.For some people who do mind about money then this would be a good chance

but for sure not all would really be that interested rather than on doing this for the sake of safety but remember that nothing is purely safe even we do get the shot.
We should still be aware and be safe!

In an attempt to increase the number of people getting vaccinated all kind of incentives are being given in the US, one of the most interesting is that those that get at least the first dose of the vaccine at Ohio will have a chance to win one million dollars, apparently there will five be prizes so a total five million dollars will be given for those that are willing to take the vaccine, and for those that are below the age of 18 there will be full scholarships being offered as well.

I see nothing wrong with it and it will actually be an advantage since lots of people these days are afraid to get vaccinated. It will encourage more people to get shots in the said State because of the incentives. The vaccine is really necessary to end this pandemic and the government should apply tactics like this to attract more people to be vaccinated.

I wont risk myself with side effects just for slim chance on hitting that million.  Wink

Oh, a different view here. I guess the most important point to consider with having yourself inoculated with the vaccine is not that you will get the chance to become a millionaire but you will get immunized against the virus. For me, it does not even matter whether there will be all these privileges or none at all. The most important thing is that we are somehow protected from getting severely infected by COVID. Don't focus on the side effect. All the vaccines are approved because they're all considered safe to use.
Well, its just my own person opinion since we do have different takings when it comes to vaccination and I cant really just easily let myself to take those shots even there are lots had already done it.

Maybe I would be waiting up for several months or years and look if its really that effective nor doesn't really give out some side effects.Yes, its hard to trust up but you do have a point

that theyre been approved which means it is totally safe and this is a good initiative made out by some government to make their citizens getting vaccinated.

I understand where exactly you are coming from. I do have relatives, friends, and even family members who are also thinking twice about getting themselves vaccinated. They do have valid reasons for it.

But on my side, even the doctors, nurses, and the leaders themselves are all taking the vaccine. So I assume there is really a good amount of assurance that the vaccines are more beneficial rather than dangerous.

And I hope government initiatives such as this lottery in the state of Ohio will be of great help.

We anyways would require to get vaccinated in future if need to stay away and protected form the virus. So any ways if we may get rewarded if we being lucky why to miss the opportunity and go to Ohio and get vaccinated. I would love any such offers  if exist at my city.
Those incentives exist because there are people out there that are pretty stupid and thinks that they are smarter than the people that works in medicine. I love the idea of encouraging people to be vaccinated through giving them an entry to a lottery, this works in a lot of places if you ask me because people are dumb.

This is a very insidious way to get someone to do something they don't want to do - everyone should have the choice to get vaccinated or not, not to increase vaccination statistics in this way, which just means that the usual strategies don't work.

In Europe, we have a case where Serbia has offered 25 EUR ($30) to everyone who gets vaccinated before the end of this month - because they have large stocks of Chinese and Russian vaccines that simply no one wants. These are not incentives, but only desperate measures to justify a system that claims that vaccines are necessary and safe.

If you are having surplus stocks of the vaccine, then thank your government for that. Here in India, everyday I am witnessing deaths in front of my eyes. And in 99% cases, the deaths occur among the unvaccinated group. The government made a big mistake by prioritizing the elderly and middle aged (>45 yrs) for vaccination and as a result now most of the deaths are occurring among the younger age groups. And I don't know much about the Chinese vaccines, but Russian vaccines have been proven to be very effective.

absolutely not ethical linking a prevention treatment for a deadly disease with a lottery prize.
get an active treatment is not like buying a lottery ticket.
Maybe that is their way to attract people to get vaccinated, as I see that some people do not want to get vaccinated. Maybe they do not realize that they can get protection with the vaccine, although not 100% safe from the virus. If people have interested in the prize, they will go to the health center and get vaccinated and who knows, one of them can win the prizes. But that will depend on whether they want to accept the offers or do not want to get vaccinated.
