I think the fact that they still don't force people to take vaccines is good and this type of gimmick or should we say motivation? this will really push people to take the vaccines and those who are hoping to get rich through lotteries. You're going to take the perks of being vaccinated and including not wearing of mask in the public and as well as having the chance to win. But if you really want to go back to normal, you'll start with yourself whether there's a motivation or prize ticket and you'll take the vaccine at your own will. But the important matter is they're still giving choice to the people.

I wont risk myself with side effects just for slim chance on hitting that million.  Wink

Oh, a different view here. I guess the most important point to consider with having yourself inoculated with the vaccine is not that you will get the chance to become a millionaire but you will get immunized against the virus. For me, it does not even matter whether there will be all these privileges or none at all. The most important thing is that we are somehow protected from getting severely infected by COVID. Don't focus on the side effect. All the vaccines are approved because they're all considered safe to use.
Well, its just my own person opinion since we do have different takings when it comes to vaccination and I cant really just easily let myself to take those shots even there are lots had already done it.

Maybe I would be waiting up for several months or years and look if its really that effective nor doesn't really give out some side effects.Yes, its hard to trust up but you do have a point

that theyre been approved which means it is totally safe and this is a good initiative made out by some government to make their citizens getting vaccinated.

We anyways would require to get vaccinated in future if need to stay away and protected form the virus. So any ways if we may get rewarded if we being lucky why to miss the opportunity and go to Ohio and get vaccinated. I would love any such offers  if exist at my city.

In an attempt to increase the number of people getting vaccinated all kind of incentives are being given in the US, one of the most interesting is that those that get at least the first dose of the vaccine at Ohio will have a chance to win one million dollars, apparently there will five be prizes so a total five million dollars will be given for those that are willing to take the vaccine, and for those that are below the age of 18 there will be full scholarships being offered as well.

What do you think of this? Do you agree with what the governor of Ohio is doing or are you against it?

Every idea can be perfectly promoted if you add the touch of gambling while promoting it.  Grin

As for the vaccination and Ohio, I'm not sure I'm 100% for this step. I personally want to get vaccinated and I think as many people as possible should get the vaccine. Yet, that's also a personal choice. Plus, paying $5 million tax payers money for this sounds unreasonable to me honestly. They could at least split the reward fund and give it to 10 or even 50 people. That amount of cash could still change someone's life and the chances to be a lucky winner for anyone will grow. If the money is given by wealthy individuals or corporations, then they can do whatever they like I guess.

I would be pissed off if someone gets $1 million from the taxes people pay, especially during the pandemic when many people lost their jobs and even homes. I've read in Serbia that at some point they gave like vouchers of 25 EUR to those who will get the vaccine and there was a huge interest for vaccination that weekend. So, in Ohio they could've given $100 or even $1000 to the first ones to apply and get the shot.

This is just my take. I still think that it's good for people to get vaccinated, but I don't think that politicians should have the right to organize such things with tax payers money.  Cheesy

This is a nice way to convince people to get vaccinated. I mean, it's not mandatory because some people are afraid that it has a side effect that may threaten their lives, but Governments are having a hard time to convince them. If the vaccine is really safe, then getting vaccinated and will have a chance to win the price is a win win situation for every citizens in Ohio.

No matter how small the chances of winning, still getting vaccinated for free is a great prize to have to secure your life from getting the virus.

People in Ohio think they are privileged to ignore the vaccine that it takes the government to launch a lottery for them to get a vaccine, it's for their own safety that these vaccines are created, do they know they it took over a year and billions of dollars just to create these vaccines and now they are ignoring, they think they are priviledged.

This is a nice way to convince people to get vaccinated.

This is a very insidious way to get someone to do something they don't want to do - everyone should have the choice to get vaccinated or not, not to increase vaccination statistics in this way, which just means that the usual strategies don't work.

In Europe, we have a case where Serbia has offered 25 EUR ($30) to everyone who gets vaccinated before the end of this month - because they have large stocks of Chinese and Russian vaccines that simply no one wants. These are not incentives, but only desperate measures to justify a system that claims that vaccines are necessary and safe.

"All those... who received the vaccine by May 31 will get 3,000 dinars (25 euros, $30). However, he warned that stimulating vaccination drives with money could be a double-edged sword. "It will push some of those who live in extreme poverty to get vaccinated, but it will produce resistance with some of the others," said Radovanovic.
"The logic is this: if the state is paying me to do something it is telling me is for my own good, then something is fishy."

That's the problem, people need to have some carrot on stick to do the most basic thing which is being vaccinated. It shouldn't matter whether you win or not, the point is to have more people get vaccinated. I feel sad for people not wanting to ever be vaccinated because you are basically a liability to your community and you are a free loader because you get protected because of herd immunity.

Exactly. Why do people have to be enticed to get vaccinated? Why do the authorities have to shell out millions through a lottery, free tickets to events, free shopping certificates, and what have you so that the people would be protected from a very contagious virus? It is for them, for their safety, for their family's protection, etc. And it is for free.

But that's what it is. There are always people who are hard-headed and who think they are better than the experts.

These people are lucky that a local government is doing this, here in our country people are fighting to get a vaccine, we are well informed about the urgency to get a vaccine, we have huge demands of people who wants to get a vaccine but unfortunately, we are lacking with supply people in Ohio should see what's happening in India and other countries where the spread is too high and the vaccine is very scarce so they will understand that they should take the opportunity to get a vaccine.

Maybe they are afraid because they see on the television and newspaper that the vaccine is not fully protected them and only minimizes the chance of getting infected. People who more than 60 years old need to get vaccines because they are more susceptible than younger people. Maybe it needs more education on how the vaccine can work in their body to know and want to get vaccinated. I hope that people in all countries want to get vaccinated, which can help the government work hard to reduce the number of infected people from the virus.

That doesn't make any sense, because 95% protection offered by a vaccine is much better IMO, than 0% percent protection without the vaccine. Here I would even go for a Sinovac vaccine, even if it provides only 50% protection (as I said earlier, 50% > 0%). A lot of propaganda is ongoing in the social media channels against the vaccines. And some of the politicians have also come up against it (example is Jair Bolsonaro). But I don't think that the Americans will believe in this propaganda.

I agree, any vaccine is better than no vaccine. For a single person a 50% protection might not be much, but if we look at 100 million people than it could make a big difference. Also with the vaccine it is not so much a full protection from the corona virus but rather a chance to avoid a serious illness. If we can make sure that everybody only gets the mild version than the death rate should drop close to 0 and it is more like a cold.
Having special promotions to get people to get the vaccine is a great in my opinion. Becoming a millionaire is definitely a huge incentive to the get vaccinated. I also like the promotion in NYC last month when they were giving joints away for everybody who go vaccinated  Cool

for those who believe that Vaccine will bring risk to their health surely wont risk this Bet of their life just to have a million dollar chance.

Me? lol i would rather not win 1 million than to make my self uneasy from that vaccine.

I don't know why people are still resisting vaccination. Already more than 1 billion people have been vaccinated around the world. If this vaccine was so bad, then millions would have died and many more would have become handicapped. Has any of that happened? Unfortunately these people who are refusing to get vaccinated are posing a health hazard to others around them. Because unless 70% of the population is vaccinated, herd immunity can't be achieved. The unvaccinated people will continue to be carriers of the disease and it will linger on until the effects of the first vaccination campaign is gone (the effect of vaccine only lasts for 1 to 5 years, and after that it needs to be repeated).

im not against with this because its not a force vaccination but is the reward of 1m dollar is too small ? .
because its the life of the people that is at stake and real lottery has a bigger reward but less risky because your only betting your money and not your life .
when it comes to odds of winning i guess the odds of winning with this one is higher than a real lottery because there will be less people that are going to participate .

This must be what all places in the world offer , to have prizes for those who will willingly accept vaccination because lets accept the reality that the world now are divided in to two, those who wanted the vaccine and the Vaccine hater.
government must pursue giving events to lure people having the vaccine that will keep them safer.
wish we have this same in the next days.

I was also surprised to find out that a government had the idea of offering lottery prizes to participants who wanted to be vaccinated. This idea is
good and quite effective in my opinion, especially in a pandemic situation like now, where most people are experiencing financial difficulties.
I'm sure the number of people who will be vaccinated will increase dramatically knowing what this lottery offers. Previously, people were hesitant
and a little afraid to be vaccinated, because they feared there would be side effects from the vaccine.
Good into those places because not all country does have the budget for that where they do ran off with some lottery scheme just for their people to get vaccinated.

Lucky for those citizens who do reside where theyre government is really minding off for them to get vaccinated and made out such ideas where if it compared here in my country

where they arent really showing something dedication to distribute those vaccines and just give out some priority into those people who do have much better status in life
but for poor ones? Meh.

Ohio residents must be very happy to have a government that cares about its citizens, I hope other governments do the same thing the government
in Ohio is doing. Unfortunately there are still many countries that only care about citizens who have status and wealth to be prioritized.
That's why it's very difficult for the COVID-19 pandemic to end, because I see that not many countries have seriously vaccinated their citizens.
Even in my country we have to be active ourselves to get vaccines, especially since the numbers are still limited.
