That's a really sad thing if you think about, people need to be given some sort of incentive to be decent person by getting vaccinated which is pretty stupid since it should be a common sense to do that since there is a pandemic. That's a good way to make a lot of people get vaccinated though, I mean lottery is the favorite past time of conspiracy nuts you know so they find the right incentive.

In an attempt to increase the number of people getting vaccinated all kind of incentives are being given in the US, one of the most interesting is that those that get at least the first dose of the vaccine at Ohio will have a chance to win one million dollars, apparently there will five be prizes so a total five million dollars will be given for those that are willing to take the vaccine, and for those that are below the age of 18 there will be full scholarships being offered as well.

What do you think of this? Do you agree with what the governor of Ohio is doing or are you against it?

I really like this idea. There are still a lot of people that don't want to be vaccinated or have worries and doubts because of it but 70% to 80% of the population needs to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. Therefore this campaign makes a lot of sense to maybe convince a big portion of the remaining doubters or vaccination refusers even if it is just for a low motive like the chance to win a lot of money.

Well if the vaccine is from the well known manufacturer then why not,
But if it is just from random source and doesn't have any details then it explains why they are giving out so much just to try it.
But it is a good idea to attract their people on getting vaccinated and it is a win win situation for both of them,
The more people that would be vaccinated the more immunity they would get and would help lessen the spreading and faster they could open most of their local businesses.

I think it's an okay idea from the government, the reason why I don't fully agree with it is because it might not be that effective. On the other hand I don't see anything wrong with that kind of incentive since a few million dollars is probably nothing to the government and definitely worth the risk if it means several millions of people will get vaccinated.

I'm against that. Health is not a game and shouldn't be associated with it in any way. Now people will compare COVID19 to a lottery, where the prize is to remain safe. A pandemic is not a game, it should be taken seriously and people should be concerned about it and about protecting their families, they shouldn't play with that, hospitals and health system are in danger.
I agree it's a serious issue, maybe the government is just that desperate to get everyone vaccinated because I remember hearing from others that there's still a lot of people that haven't had their vaccine even though it's available already available in their country.

It's a nice incentive. The idea itself is honestly brilliant and it just pushes for people to actually have a purpose to vaccinate themselves. After all, against the numerous rumors that the vaccine can't do much or isn't a guarantee, some people still opt to not vaccinate themselves. It'd actually probably be better if they instead split it, some parts being given into multiple people while a bigger sum given to a single person so that it can be spread out much more. After all, one million given to a single person and one million given to multiple people, the latter gives way more advantage especially during these times.

I don't have a problem with it but I guess it should be lowered down a bit. $1 million for a single person in five weeks would be $5 million for only five persons. For sure, there must be other important things such huge amount of money could be spent on. Or perhaps they could increase the number of winners from only one per week to ten. In that way, people would be more interested because there'd be 10 winners per Wednesday. The chance to be drawn goes higher. So instead of a total of 5 winners with a million dollars each, there'd be 50 winners with a hundred thousand dollars each. That's still a huge amount of prize one could get only for getting the vaccine.

I never thought this kind of strategy coming, well this might be a good initiative where people are really struggling with their life will try this and nothing will lose to them. That's a lot of prizes and people that have nothing to lose will never will this kind of offer. If this will happen to our country, I think people will rush to get their first dose and I think after this, some countries will think for their own strategy that would lure the people to want to get their first Covid vaccine dose.

I agree if we have this kind of offer to our country I am more than willing to take it, but apart from giving a huge lottery prize, they should educate their people on the urgency and importance of taking a vaccine, they should concentrate more on educating the people and make the lottery a bonus for those who want to take the vaccine, so far this is the only place where I read where leaders are giving away a chance to win a lottery for taking a vaccine, many places are going to follow if this turn out to be successful.

Ohio is really desperate to get their people vaccinated given the fact that they are offering free covid vaccination to their citizens they put extra effort into putting a lottery to encourage more people to be vaccinated. I think this is a privilege to Ohio citizens considering that there are many countries that are struggling to get vaccines in their countries and people are putting in a big amount of money just to get a vaccine against covid

One million USD is a pretty large amount of money and I think with the million residents in Ohio, The odds of winning is ultimately low. It's just that one million USD is very eye-catching to people even if it is better to divide it into small allocations for more citizens to win the lottery.

I think it is a good initiative by the state. People have a chance to become a millionaire if they took the shot. This will help the government in getting more people vaccinated at a very fast rate. Good to hear that 5 lucky winners will have the chance to become millionaire.

I think the governor is just doing his best to encourage his constituents to take the vaccine so that his jurisdiction will start to be free from covid-19. And that will make the millions back when things back to normal again on his city. I'm not against on it but there's still the free will of those who wants to get the vaccine shot so, if you are wanting then that ticket is just another incentive to attract more people to take the vaccine. You got the shot and you got the chance to become a millionaire.  Cheesy

Among all of the current vaccines that we do have then it does depend on what type to be vaccinated. This is some sort of desperation step for its government on targeting that each citizen should
be vaccinated and its no surprise that majority would really be still hesitated to do so due to possible complications or side effects which i do even think off and thats why
i dont tend to get vaccinated and also with that current offering about having a vaccine to get some chance on winning a million then i wouldnt still
consider it to be a good idea.

actually, it is only one of their ideas or people to get vaccinated. a couple of weeks ago, an article was published about the $100 as Incentive to Get a Shot . from the recent survey of UCLA, they got higher percentage of response that if there will be monetary incentives for inoculation, they will do so. and just like the 'West Virginia’s governor, Jim Justice, announced the state would give young people $100 bonds if they got an inoculation' as per the same article
this, i guess, will indeed be implemented in some states just to encourage their constituents to get vaccinated. lucky for them, whereas, in other parts of the world, covid vaccine is still far from their doorstep.

Its justifiable so long as they stand to gain tax revenue from a quicker resumption to business then its balanced vs that future tax revenue.   State lotteries can be linked through to taxation , usually quite popular for the reason its an easy profitable game to run almost a kind of voluntary tax.   I would hope anyone excluded from taking the vaccine is able to be included in the draw anyway so long as they can prove as such, in any case those people need support given.

While I think it is an absolutely brilliant idea to possibly get extra people vaccinated, it might be a slight waste of tax payer money. It will help to defend people that cannot receive the vaccine for numerous reasons if more people around them are protected against this virus. I had a Pfizer shot the other day and have been patiently waiting months for that opportunity. A great boost of protection from an extremely contagious and deadly disease that decimates the lungs should be the only incentive needed. The death tolls around the world should have dispelled any myths by now and we need to stop possible variants before they can out-mutate the vaccine.
