China looks very strong at the top of the medals table, with 32 golds. The team that made the most improvement this time is Australia (along with Japan). Back in Rio 2016, Australia had won 8 golds. And this time they have won 15 till now. Back in 2016, they were in the 10th position, while this time they are at 4th, above Great Britain and Russia. Asian teams in general have performed well, including China and Japan (South Korea seems to be an exception to this, as they have won less number of golds this time).

EJ Obiena is another one that will be participating in Pole Vault's Final.
Question: During the pole vaulting event, does the player need to outjump their opponent's jump height or they just need to complete a predetermined height to win the medal?

Or is it the latter because it appears that an elimination is taking place when Braz secured the bronze after Duplantis and Nielsen outperformed him?

As far as I know, it is only about which athlete jumps the greatest height. There are three attempts for each height. So if two athletes both jumped, for example, 6.0 metres, but athlete 1 jumped in the first attempt and athlete 2 only in the second or third attempt, athlete 1 would be ahead of athlete 2. The second athlete would then have to jump a greater height to be ahead of athlete one again. If both the height jumped and the number of attempts required for this are identical for 2 athletes, there is a jump off to determine the winner. However, it is also possible that both athletes waive the jump off, as was the case in the high jump, in which case there are two winners.

The Japanese football team was one step away from reaching the final today, but unfortunately conceded the decisive goal 5 minutes before the end of added time. Now on August 6 we will see the match for 3rd place between Japan and Mexico, I think both teams will give their best as it will be a shame to take 4th place and be left without a medal at all.

Japanese team should be happy with what they have achieved. In the group stage, they managed to win all the games (including the one against Mexico, who are their opponents in the 3rd place playoff). In fact they were the only team in the group stage to finish with 9 points (even Brazil conceded a draw against Ivory Coast). Then they defeated New Zealand in the QF. In the semi-final match, they were tied at 0-0 after regulation time, but conceded a goal during the extra time. It would have been nice to see an Asian team in the finals. But they couldn't do that.

Yes, the performance of the Japanese team can be considered very successful even if they take 4th place only. But until the match for third place has not taken place and no one knows the result, it is obvious that every Japanese fan (and not only, for example, I will also root for Japan) will dream of more.

Quick question, how does a country qualify to play the Olympics? I really want to see my country play but they aren't even participating so I don't exactly get what is the requirements to do be part of Olympics, also who will be carrying the torch this time?

Maybe the people in your place have no interest to join the tournament or they don't like to join cause they are shy or they will not be unacceptable to be an athlete. I  think the requirements if a person have a gut's and passion to be an athlete ,cause being an athlete you must practice, physically fit, and know the rules and regulations of the game you want.

I watched Armand Duplantis from Sweden got gold medals on the pole vault yesterday. he is a great young player, he is the only one person who can jump over 6 meters in Tokyo. Yesterday Night he also tries to create a new record of 6.19 meters, but unfortunately, he got failed 3 times. I think he got WR in a first-time trial, but he failed, it just a bit inchi touched barrier pole. Congrats

Once again, this was an event where the Americans were expected to grab gold. Sums up this edition of the Olympics for the Americans. No one really expected Armand Duplantis to win the gold medal, as Chris Nilsen of the United States was the favorite. In the end, Duplantis managed 6.02m, while Nilsen was far behind with just 5.97m. And the former USSR teams were nowhere in the picture (this item used to be dominated by them, until very recently). Similar to the case with Marcell Jacobs, Duplantis is also eligible to represent the US (he was born in the US, and his father is American).

I supported the Japanese as well as the Brazilians (obviously). It's much sadder to see a team get knocked out when they're playing an Olympics in their own country... while other teams can continue to enjoy the "trip" or just go home and try to forget about losing, a host team stands there watching it all happen without being able to participate.

But in fact, Japan deserves its merits for reaching the semi-finals, they played very well despite the 3-1 score.

It's okay if those people that trash-talked her a few years ago will congratulate her. She deserves to be congratulated but even if there are no congratulations from them, she remains the first Olympic gold medalist in our country. I think when she has asked from the private sector, help and donations came into her, and there go the rewards that she's about to reap when she comes back home. I like the positivity of Margielyn, she's just enjoying while she's there and despite her run ends, she's being liked by many as the woman of sportsmanship.
This is a radical opinion but I disagree with you, if we let those people just go their way, we are enabling the bandwagon culture in our country and even in our society, people need to learn that the achievements of someone shouldn't be shared towards the people who thought that they won't make it.

As Turkey, we cannot have a successful Olympics. We only have one gold medalist. Mete Gazoz won the gold medal in the Classic Bow category. This also went down in history as Turkey's first medal in archery in Olympic history. Today, we won a bronze medal in gymnastics, for the first time in our history, in the gymnastics category. Women's volleyball In the quarter-finals, there will be a Turkey-South Korea match. I am very hopeful for Turkey. We can beat South Korea and reach the semi-finals.

In today's competition of single kayak 1000m, Hungarian athletes are to be congratulated for their excellent performance. In the last meters of the race, they managed to win over the Portuguese athlete.

The total number of medals is the same at the moment - this means that the US athletes were slightly less successful in the fight for gold, but the overall level is at least equal. I think the fight is still ahead and the US team has every chance to compete for the first place.
The team with the highest gold total should be at the top, and China has the most gold medals, so they are on the first place. However, combining the total number of medals, the top spot goes to the USA. China, on top with most Gold Medals, won 32 Gold and the United States won 24 Gold. In terms of gold medals, nothing to boast about and the USA barely beats China.

As we can see, in one day the difference in gold medals decreased by two at once. I think that in the future it will happen at about this pace and most likely the United States will take first place with about 50 gold medals. In my opinion, despite tremendous efforts, China still cannot claim the first place if we are not talking about the home Olympiad.

They are also playing at home, this ends up giving them some advantage. This aspect can also be an extra motivation for athletes, to commit and train more in each competition they participate. They also had victories in new competitions that emerged in these Olympic games, this was an asset.
The advantage for hosting the event or the extra motivation is already out of the question. There are still sports that I did not expect them to win even if they're playing at home soil so it comes as a surprise to me.

An example is table tennis where the Chinese team usually dominate. Japan or Germany usually comes in second or third.

They also got another Gold in boxing today where I expected the taller boxers from Europe to win. I guess Japan were lucky in the draw.

Well apparently a great example has given us the Olympic athlete Simone Biles, after her return and obtained a Bronze medal, which, is like an Olympic Gold for her, she managed to overcome her fear, she returned with everything, it is very good what made.

"At the end of the day we're not just entertainment. We're humans, too. We have things going on behind the scenes. ... I had to take a step back and focus on myself." - Simone Biles

The experience of the athlete serves for many athletes to learn to overcome adversity, many times our own mind is the greatest obstacle of all. Fears are sometimes our own enemies, in the life of an athlete, self-esteem, morale and self-confidence must always be above in order to achieve success.

... I am also surprised by the positive performance of Japan.
You have to hand it to them. They have won Gold on sports I wasn't really expecting them to win.

I read that the Chinese is very nationalistic about this on-going Olympics (maybe because of the political tension against the US.)
These two countries have been going back and forth with their power plays so let's leave it at that. Anyone who represents their country in this prestigious competition is always nationalistic. China improved their program for sports prior to hosting the 2008 Olympics and we are just seeing the results.

... I am also surprised by the positive performance of Japan.
