In my opinion the Olympics are a stage for the type of sports that are not so much covered in the media in between the Olympics such as Shooting, wrestling and also swimming and track & field.

This is one of the main goals of the Olympic games!

That's why football, despite being a sport in the catalog of Olympic games, is not very prominent. And it is in the interest of the Olympic Committee and FIFA that it be so, to prevent other competitions from losing the prominence they have at the Olympics. That's why most football teams take lesser-known and young players.

Men's Olympic Soccer Final Odds Comparison:

I'm sure this will be one of the match that many people look forward to at the Olympics I have placed a bet for this match, the odds between the two countries are not too much different, which means that even though Brazil are the favorites by the bookies, overall this match will be very exciting, maybe it will end in a penalty shootout.

In my opinion the Olympics are a stage for the type of sports that are not so much covered in the media in between the Olympics such as Shooting, wrestling and also swimming and track & field. But of course this match has definitely the potential to be one of the highlights of this Olympic Games,  especially for football fans that are not interested in other sports. When i look at this odds i would bet on a win of Spain. Maybe the brazilian team has sent players that are slightly better on a individual level but the spanish players are usually much better trained tactically even in their young age. A draw is also very much possible after 90 minutes as both teams will probably not risk that much.

Oddly enough, but these are expensive sports - running requires systemic training in good conditions, and not just a street where you can run. Football is an even more expensive sport - you need a field to play, a ball, a goal, a football boots and a lot of partners ready to train regularly.

I have always considered football as one of the most affordable sports. You can use any field to play football, and only minimal modifications are required. And it is not necessary to have boots and other equipment at amateur level. When I participated in intra-university matches more than a decade ago, many of the players didn't had sports boots. And this is one of the reasons why Latin American nations are always on the top when it comes to football. On the other hand, some of the other sports, such as cricket and golf requires more expensive equipment.

Yes, football is relatively cheap (I myself played a lot in my childhood and spent practically zero money on it), but in comparison with chess it is still more expensive. You don't need a lot of space or partners for chess, and you can play chess even at night, which is quite difficult in the case of football.

Well, it's almost end of Olympics and Saturday we have lot of finals, especially in team sports. USA - France in basketball final. Brazil - Spain in football, difficult to predict who is favorite. France - Russia volleyball final. Denmark - France handball final also sounds very interesting. Seems that France have good time in team events, they will play in finals of most popular sports like basketball, volleyball and handball.
Also, last day of athletics events with 400m relay, 1500m, 10000m and women high jumping finals.
It will be difficult to pick what to watch.

Today will certainly be the most interesting day at the Olympics in team sports.
The man's basketball final is already over and as expected America won even thought France was very close to victory.
In man's handball final I predict that Denmark will beat France but it will be a very uncertain and even match.
I don't follow other sports that well so I want predict.

It is true. There are very few team games that you don't need a lot of resources to be able to play. And in poorer places, football is played, even if you can only have a ball made of rags.

Running is also a sport with practically zero costs to practice, just go out and run. But it's a solitary sport, and people like to have fun with other people. That's why football easily becomes popular everywhere.

I agree that the main reason for the skyrocketing popularity of football is that you don't have to buy expensive equipment to play football like other sports. One ball and your own feet are enough to play football is popular all over the world, but especially in europe africa and central america and south america football is the most popular sport in the world with around 4 billion people liking the game. There is a lot to learn here as many people cannot observe the game of cricket too much.

I can congratulate people who bet on Zhan Beleniuk on his performance in Men's Greco-Roman - https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/en/news/ukraine-s-zhan-beleniuk-wins-men-s-greco-roman-wrestling-87kg-gold
forgot to write it here, but in previous games he took silver medal and it was clear enough (at least for me) that this time he will finally get gold. And he is also our deputy, cool enough  Grin

Glory to Ukraine!
Yes its a well merited victory and strong performance from beleniuk he won all fights without problems exept in the quarter final he had a draw against the algerian wrestler but he qualified because he scored the last point and those are the rules.

I agree. However, that only applies at a professional level. If we are talking about amateur sports, most of it is not really necessary.

African and Southeast Asian countries generally don't have very big GDP and yet these countries produce some of the best runners in the world. Football is somewhat similar. Many world-class players come from less-than-optimal economic environments and there have been many cases of youngsters who were born in slums becoming professional footballers.

Despite its heart-breaking nature, I think poverty can be an incredibly powerful motivator.

Here you can argue about running, but football is definitely the lot of rich countries - all the best football players in the world are graduates of the European football school. Football players from Argentina and Brazil do not deny this fact at all, since historically in these countries football is the main sport and does not experience money problems.

Interesting question. If you recall all the sports in which I know successful players from India, then I can name chess only. Apparently this is due to the fact that chess is the cheapest kind of sport and historically India was a poor country. I think after some time, when the standard of living in India rises, we will see many different successful athletes from there.

What about running (or walking, if you consider that a sport)? You can run anywhere and anytime without requiring any equipment or prior training.
And what about football (not American)? Everyone plays football. You just need shoes and a ball. You can make goals out of just about anything you can find.

Oddly enough, but these are expensive sports - running requires systemic training in good conditions, and not just a street where you can run. Football is an even more expensive sport - you need a field to play, a ball, a goal, a football boots and a lot of partners ready to train regularly.

Javelin throw final will be played in Olympic Games tomorrow. This is our country (Pakistan) last hope to get any medal in this Olympics. We have high hopes for him and wish him best of luck. Lets hope he win a Gold medal for us.  Smiley

When looking at the elimination results of javelin throwers, there are a few who have throw on similar distance as Nadeem. Of course, anything can happen in the final and good luck to the Pakistani representative. However, it seems that the competition will be very strong in tomorrow finals. However, it seems that Vetter is the favorite and it will be hard for anyone to threaten him.

It was the biggest misfortune I saw on penalties to be honest but you can't blame the result only on this because having 3 chances to take the W and Sweden still manage to miss all of them. I think the Swedish girls relaxed to much after they saw they're having so many chances to just score and take the gold , so I think they lost focus after 2nd miss.
That's true though, the Swedish team had the most advantage to win the gold medal with the penalty shootout. Looking at the fact that, they whole penalty shootout started on the wrong foot with them. First, it was them who took and lost the first shot to the bar in the person of K. Asllani who had been very useful during the game. I was shocked at that and had hoped that the pressure that miss came with would create in them the need not to take chances and then sooner than they expected, the game once more turned in there favour with the Canadian team loosing 3 straight shots to the bar and goalkeeper. A. Lawrence once more that performed good happened to be the first in line for this series of losses.

Sweden still weren't able to take up the advantage, even with just a one shot from gold medal chance. Apparently, the best team doesn't always win and today seemed to have been about Canada from the chance created by D. Rose to have put the team back into the game. So much for being relaxed at Sweden.
