Gold for Canada at last in the Olympic women's football. In London, they got bronze, in Rio they also got bronze and now in Tokyo Olympic women's final at the Yokahama stadium, they've finally won gold after what appeared to be an amazing penalty shootout. You could see the switch of advantage in the penalty session back and forth until Canada finally took there chance. Both goalkeepers were amazing but then, Canada became the lucky one.

It was unfortunate for Sweden, they were the best team all evening, scoring, had several chances to win the game in regular time, following the regular errors from the Canadian team but weren't able to make the finish and now, its been an agonising lose for them. A game with over 3 captains for Canada, they were really up to something and they won. Congrats to the Canadian women Tokyo Olympic team.

Do you think that the people in the sub-continent aren't so fit that they can compete in the international competition ? Also, even if there is potential in the under developed country, it needs to be backed up by the government. If government does not support these sports, then no one will try to make a career in them because there will be no money in it.

Unfortunately, the most popular sports here in our country which is cricket is not included in the Olympics and hence its another drawback for us.

Under development is not precise,,, but underdevelopment of interest and training capacities for sure. I think the problems are deeper than we can see. In these countries, the emphasis is always not to do sports because you cannot earn well and you cannot retire. There is no prestige unless like you say,,, you play a game like cricket, which is not even in Olympics. That again is yet another matter as the cricket governing bodies from India and Pakistan as I understand do not want to endanger the sport's financial interests by putting it into Olympics.

That was a great 4x100m relay for both men and women. Jamaica was favorite for women and they got the gold as expected. USA got silver and Great Britain got bronze medal. Men had a different story though, it was a very intense race and Italy won by only 0.01 seconds. USA was leading until last runner but Filippo Tortu led Italy to glory. Lamont Marcell Jacobs got another gold after his 100m victory. Great Britain got silver medal and Canada got bronze. China got fourth place, Jamaica only finished in fifth, they had a problem when changing relay. It was one of the most entertaining and fast races in Olympics.
Yes, another historic day for Italy, things never seen before!
One of the most important races in athletics the 4x100 meters and another gold medal for Italy! Patta, Jacbos, Desalu and Tortu won in the relay reaching yet another historic milestone. With 37'' 50 the Azzurri signed the first place, Great Britain arrived second and Canada third. Medal number 38 for the Azzurri, an incredible record!
If the Italians continue to win, the Italian govt will go bankrupt considering how much the pay the won medals: after four Olympics the prizes have been increased by 20% gross, from 50k to 60k euros for the bronze, from 75k to 90k for the silver, from 150k to 180k for the gold.

What an amazing final in man 100m relay. Britain were leading until last metres and just before finish line Italy turned into leaders. Who could have thought that Italy can win gold there? Amazing.
In women 100m relay, Jamaica won confident.
Finally my country Lithuania won first medal in Tokyo. In modern pentathlon. Before last event she was over 40 seconds behind top 3, but she made amazing sprint and even 10 seconds penalty didn't stopped her from taking Silver medal
Despite this, with just 1 Silver medal, it's not good Olympics for us. In Rio we had 4 medals, in London - 6, including 2 Gold.

The women's match for the gold medal has just gone to an extra time and it's been an amazing watch so far. Watching both teams putting in there best to ensure they be the ones taking the Tokyo Olympic final gold home. Sinclear did good in winning a penalty for her Canadian team, penalty scored by flaming to get get equaliser for Canada but sadly, Sinclear couldn't feature all match round due to fatigue as I see it.
Sweden seems to be having the upper hand in this game, the Canadian teams are doing good butseems go be having little errors and they need more than ever to watch out for there communication to keep the errors at bay. Lawrence has been amazing all match round, I look forward to her wearing the gold medal at the end of the extra time.

Mexico beat host team Japan in the match for the bronze medal in football, I don't watch the match but see at the score It's seems Mexico stronger than Japan. I hope Japan can do more in this match but even for bronze medal all players will keep fighting for it.
For Gold medal match I bet for Brazil. Brazil won a gold medal in the previous Olympics, and also a favorite by bookies in this match, and the odds are quite interesting Brazil 2.76 Spain 3.19.

Big disappointment from the 65kg wrestling for India. Bajrang Bajrang is much expected, but from the beginning Azerbaijan player Haji Aliyev kept the lead and won moved to the finals. Somehow the match is bit interesting to watch losing 9-5. Wrestling used to bring few medals to India, but this time it is a disappointment.
not only from the sport of wrestling that made India fail to win a medal, but from several sports that are quite popular in india country, India also lost medals, as happened in women's hockey which failed in the semifinals against the Argentine hockey team, even though the women's hockey team became one of India's hopes to get a medal, but what I couldn't help thinking about was the response from some of the Indian hockey supporters who berated their players for the defeat and even from the news I read that Vandana Katariya house( a core striker for the Indian Hockey Team) received throws and insults related to caste after the defeat, even though if we look at the achievements of the Indian women hockey team, it is quite good because they were able to penetrate the semifinals.

But it's just all about having gold, China really is leading, the end is near so I guess if the US gets more gold, China would be getting the same too in addition. What are the other remaining games?
Actually, looking at the sporting events that the United States is participating in, they still have a lot of opportunities to catch up with China. Today their gold medal difference is only 4. If I'm not mistaken the United States still has a lot of finals and a few qualifiers. There are still 20 more games for the United States, this is more than China.
That link that you've included, well that's a lot of characters and hard to distinguish as it's just a google search but thanks for that, I'll look at it. Yeah, today the USA got 1 gold so it's 4 more gold away. If USA will win majority of those remaining with a gold then that should be it, that's the final but let's all witness whatever is going to happen.

I am not sure if other athletes were given the benefit over the Russian athletes on doping case but whoever is involved in this should be punished regardless of the nationality. Cheating and using unfair means is a sin in sports but giving undue advantage to players of certain nation is even a bigger sin.

Of course, any athlete who is caught doping, regardless of nationality, is penalized. I have never heard of athletes being caught and being benefited.

What happened to Russia was that the government itself was involved in these cases and then the penalty went to the country. What the organization of the Olympic Games did was to accept that athletes who were not involved in this scandal could participate in the name of the Russian Olympic Committee, instead of being in the name of Russia.
This might seem a little weird. But, I also believe that these athletes are under special attention, to avoid unpleasant suppressions.

Doping regulations have changed a lot in recent years, but the incentives for athletes and teams to cheat still remain. This applies even on the entire national organizations. Olympic athletes are required to follow doping guidelines issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The WADA publishes a list of prohibited substances and oversees compliance with the anti-doping code.
So, even though some national organizations are flagged by the WADA, this does not mean that individual athletes should be punished if they are not involved.

Not a Russian myself, nor do I care about any specific Russian athlete, but accusing Russia of systematic doping and not pointing a finger at other countries' systematic doping is just ridiculous. I guess the difference is state manipulated systematic doping versus the state knowing about doping and turning a blind eye. Honestly, it's equally bad.

The point is, these were caught... the others weren't.

Yes it is true that there is doping in other countries, but either it has not been detected yet or what has been caught are individual athletes, without government support or knowledge of the countries' federations.

In the case of Russia, the problem was discovering that the federations were involved in the problem. In other words, it was not the individual athletes but the institutions representing them that were involved.

I am not sure if other athletes were given the benefit over the Russian athletes on doping case but whoever is involved in this should be punished regardless of the nationality. Cheating and using unfair means is a sin in sports but giving undue advantage to players of certain nation is even a bigger sin.

Last time I checked I think the odds were somewhere around 5.5 - 6 for China to win the most medals. Not sure if anything has changed in the meantime, though.
Summer Olympics history has been dominated by the USA. In the last six Olympics, the USA has won the most medals in five of them.

The US usually takes home the most medals, and this year will be no exception. They are one of the few countries that take many athletes and participate in almost all sports.

The difference this year is that it will probably not be the country that will take the most gold medals.

This time china is leading the gold medal race as they have got 34 gold medals 🏅 while united states have managed to get 30 gold medals. Anything can still happen because there are still 2 days left in the Olympics and the numbers can quickly change. China and United States are clearly leading the medal race.

That's correct, China is not the favorite but may I know what's the odds for China to be in the top 1?

Very difficult to make a prediction now. China has a chance to win some more golds in boxing, wrestling, diving and karate. Also the gold medal match for table tennis (men's) is today. On the other hand, the US will have an upper hand in golf, basketball, volleyball and some of the track and field items. It looks as if US have more gold medal competitions, but the gap is still significant (34 vs 30). That said, this is an outstanding performance from China, who were not even in the top-2 favorites when sportsbooks published their initial odds.

That's correct, China is not the favorite but may I know what's the odds for China to be in the top 1?

I'm sure the odds are so attractive, but of course, since in the past, the USA is always the favorite so only a few would bet on China to win. If China will top, that's a big achievement and a statement to the world that they can also be the number one in sports.
