Don’t call it huge tax, call it a huge grease money lol... if it were tax, then it would be legal. How can they tax them when the government has already banned them? Those POGO buildings in different cities or provinces might not be used anymore; they'll probably move back to operating from apartments or condos to keep things low-key.
Can the government take over the buildings though? What will happened to them? The Philippine government should know how to take it over and maybe make it usable for their population like what you said, build it as condoms so that they can get the money from his violent crime groups and make the Filipino used it to their advantage. As for the tax, if there are legal then definitely that is a good tax that the gaming corporation of the Philippines.
The problem is that this POGO operated illegally and that they were able to sustain it's run for the last 2-3 years if I'm not mistaken with the protection of corrupt officials. And now that they have been exposed, not just to ban POGO, but to prosecute those individuals and put them in jail.
Good in terms of converting those assets though not sure if how and what government institution that will sequester those assets, after banning and proving those illegal facilatations it's now time for the government to take actions and bring those corrupt officials who manage to earn from those illegal gambling bussinesses that facilatate inside our country and manage to build those buildings where they enjoyed all the money that gamblers brings.
I think they can in their power to convert this POGO to something else, the the people can used, after-all they are government and they can turn that assets in some useful ways. I read that some of those POGO was once used as a tourist spot or something that people visited in Cavite before.
Maybe they can turn it around like it was before when it was bought by the Chinese. However, it seems that it's going to be very hard to do as there are some individuals who still benefited from it despite what the President said, total ban by December this year.
