Have you ever tried e-cigarettes or vaping? How about diverting your attention to something else, like a hobby or a sport? My Dad used to smoke a lot but then we got him into getting into basketball. It started with him lessening the amount of cigarettes he smoked from 2 packs a day to one pack, all the while he is playing basketball, and then 5 sticks and so forth. We also introduced him to virtual reality. He is in his late 40s and VR helped a lot. He is more active now and enjoys playing basketball and VR. He is healthier too since he quit.

I think a cigarette addict would be hard to stop if there is no intention of within and the support of people around. Try to switch on electric cigarettes for a while (as a first step) do it slowly and consistently.

Quitting smoking for some people is like quitting food. So for them to uut smoking is not a one day job. People will quit it gradually. It is best they are even rehabilitated for their own usefulness.
