At the beginning of every good cryptocurrency purchase, I first buy Bitcoins. This is the best coin, with the purchase of which you will never lose. These are serious and reliable investments in cryptocurrency. And for me they are always justified.
I think that the Ethereum has more prospects for growth in price.
Ethereum is not going to make as much money as Bitcoin would. It's going to be safer to invest in Bitcoin because the the price could go on a free-fall to $0. 
BTC it`s a good idea, because of stability, but you will get from it less profit than alts. I recommend you to divide your investment for BTC and ETH.

I think you should wait for bitcoin to about 5,500 , where you can buy it already Ethereum and bitcoin , but of course if you want to earn more then buy Ethereum
BTC prices can not be reduced to such low, the current price of BTC is touching $ 7000. And now if buying BTC is not good, so I think it's time to invest in altcoin, buying BTC at $ 7000 is pretty risky, I think. Buying ETH is ok, because ETH is pretty cheap, maybe even higher.
