BTW World Iron man 2023 is in September and for me, it's the biggest endurance event in the world, and the most "level" competition because it's not about privilege (like F1 or golf) but about pure "I will outlast you". But it's a huge complicated competition with so many qualifying levels (essentially the whole world is one big group stage starting at country level, and you need to earn qualifying tickets from smaller Iron Mans). Would love to see a question on it from the qualifiers July onwards but it's a tough ask to get a question in...

Prize money's shit, though, I guess which is why it doesn't get a lot of TV attention.

have you tried to compete in one? or triathlon?
yeah, I find it also as biggest endurance event, but basically no coverage at all

marathon could also be interesting to add up, some of top5 (Big5) marathons, but that is probably a long shot as well

nevertheless, Cro2 team is doing great job and covering good topics/sports, and although I don't like DOTA or eSports, I don't have anything against those being within questions

I have never seen such intense discussions about esports! I don't have much take on it but I can honestly say I've been following DOTA more since BSFL, following F1 more because of SB but also because that's what my kid watches, and I believe one point of BSFL was to get people to discuss more about sports, banter is great, even welcome -- so objective achieved I should say, based on evidence of conversations here.

Go to most other discussion threads and it's crappy spamfest with rehashed news. Come to the pools and BSFL and you hear more passionate discussions. I love seeing people get mad about sports, it's fun Wink

Not to "defend" Cro2 here but we do have to accept that as organisers, they must feel comfortable enough and confident enough to put questions that have as black-and-white answers as possible, with scoring sites that can back them up. Tennis and football, F1, are the ones I'm pretty sure tick the boxes, I couldn't really say for anything else.

As Jinetics1111 says above, bring it on! Come at me. Cricket? Women's volleyball? Arm-wrestling? Strong man competition? Iron man?

Only DOTA and F1? I have never researched a tennis player before I got into BSFL. I didn't even know that eSport is a "sport" with that much money in it. BSFL is a great competition with great guys that manage it and with great participants. I must say that I was at first hesitate to join because I'm far from sports expert, but you have seen my winning run. I guess it's slightly more a matter of luck then knowledge.

Hey guys been reading the great dialogue between you guys, when it comes to questions I say just bring it on with anything. It's competition and I love it, it puts the brain juice to work week to week. And so far this competition has been great and I'm glad it's getting bigger and better.

Like NBA or tennis (this or that lol) except to include number of sets or games, MMA has many more combinations. I knew zero about it too until I played prediction contests from Sportsbet Smiley Actually I still know 1% about it but at least UD and SD like you said are familiar to me now.

That's why I appreciate BSFL a lot. Now I know DOTA. Now I know even a bit about NBA. Handball? F1? Amazing Smiley
That is the idea behind this project, to introduce as many "fringe" sports as possible to make proper sports fanatics from all participants while keep majority of questions in safe sports like football to level the field a bit.

Snooker question is incoming for sure. I used to watch that sport a lot and I know more than enough to make a good question even if I don't follow current players that closely. Cricket is a big problem for us, it is very popular but it is also very hard sport to properly understand and we know nothing about it. Then there is also the fact that game lasts trough several days and usually collides with our deadlines.

I shared great sites for eSports and tennis, why don't some of you give something like that for other fringe sports? There is also a problem of explaining things properly, for DOTA I know enough to answer every possible question some newb has. I can't do that about cricket.

Why is nobody familiar with MMA yelling here, you have big tournament coming then and there? Do they even exist? I know that we have Wimbledon in tennis coming up and Riyadh Masters in DOTA coming up and both will be included. I also know there will be European Masters in Germany to cover snooker somewhere in August. I also plan to learn something about cricket in near future to better cover that sport.

I hate DOTA questions, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be included once in a while. I like to do the research when answering, but with some questions I just have to rely on luck or just pick the favorites to win. The same is with DOTA questions. If I had not f*cked up when doing my research for the previous week, I would have had one point in that question and I would have won against mitchr4. You guys (Trofo and cryptofrka) just keep up the good work. There will always be people that complain. Some with a reason and some just because they lost Smiley

I wanted to quickly jump in on the discussion here about DOTA and about the fact that Trofo phrases the questions as well. Last round there were 4 out of 52 participants getting the DOTA question right and I can tell that I have had a look at DOTA two or three times in my life and that was only due to BSFL. Yet, I was among the 4 who got it right. I solely used available resources on the Internet and when the answers were due, Betboom Team was a reasonable choice, but so was PSG.LGD. I was essentially rolling the dice and then I chose Gaimin Gladiators because I found a couple of resources saying that they are one of the best or the best tournament team. I could have picked other teams likewise. It was 50% research and 50% luck. If you also see how the tournament went this outcome was anything but certain.

Trofo and cryptofrka making the questions is part of how this league is run and I thought for a second like "hey this could give them an advantage", but they have done a nice and fair job in my opinion and how they spread the questions between different sports does not at all indicate any intention of favoring themselves. By the way, this is quite some work developing those questions and I am sure that even if the two guys would offer publicly that someone else could phrase the questions every single weekend for 12/13 weeks in a row, I doubt that a lot of volunteers would show up.

I like Trofo's offer that we ourselves can drop suggestions for questions, but even now I would probably not take the time and check what question I would like to see. Someone has to run this league and obviously, those someones also have a favorite sport because otherwise they wouldn't be running this project in the first place. But should that favorite sport (or one of their favorite sports) be excluded? No. If we had ever been flooded with DOTA questions like there is no tomorrow, I would get the point. But this last DOTA question could be fairly well researched even though it did take some time for me Tongue

But it pays off! I am sure that I am much better prepped for the next DOTA questions right off the bat. When I read "Cricket", it gets my hackles up! Cheesy But hey, if on my next date the lady wants to talk Cricket, I fear I owe cryptofrka and Trofo a beer! Tongue

By the way, what are the conditions for me to take a place in Division 2?

Top 2 teams from Division 3A and 3B get promoted directly.
Also, teams 3 and 4 from each of these play a 1v1 decider for the 3rd promotion spot.

In total 6 teams will achieve promotion - 3 from A and 3 from B.

________________________________

Regarding eSports - it's huge and will definitely be in the BSFL.
MMA is huge as well - we had 1 question and we do plan to have more.

The thing with MMA is that we're both clueless about it. Trofo explained it perfectly - there are multiple categories and the events are weirdly named so we can't google 'When is MMA world cup' - it doesn't work that way.
Croatian dude's fight wasn't important but let us know when something big is happening - we want to include more fighting sports.

...
Why don't some of you take that opportunity and give yourself an advantage? But it doesn't work that way since when I am making the questions and answering them I am in totally different states of mind. Try it and see for yourself.

I totally second this, you are free to suggest questions all the time.
Don't feel bad if we don't select it and just try again, there are many sports and many rounds to go.

We still did not have any snooker, cricket, golf.. - there are a lot of things happening and finding the right balance isn't really that easy Grin

I might have an idea on this, it's just going to be an extra work for you and cryptofrka, I suggest that you create a new form a perhaps 10 maximum entries of possible questions for the next round when publishing a new round questions, and there will also be a deadline for all submission maybe Friday, where users submitting the questions could be or not be anonymous, but will have to fill in a couple of criteria; like category the question fall under, starting date and ending date, is the event confirmed to hold or there is a possible of delay beyond the ending day of the week, then the question which should be at least 2 or more, you don't have to ask the questions verbatim, but it will bring new ideas of possible questions, and show another level of transparency from you guys.

It's better if you do it in the thread, maybe you get some merits as well and that way we can gauge the other participants interest with that kind of questions.
Also - by having it visible to all some dialogues on how to form the questions better might also occur. If we keep it to ourselves, we lose potential feedback from 50 people.

As for me, this is not any form of d*ck riding because I don't even communicate with either of you except on these gambling threads, but in all fairness you both are doing a great job without any form of bias, the questions aren't straight and nobody gets an edge when you to pick questions with entangled clauses that have no feasible answers because the opinions on a each clause of the question are often repelling just like like charges in physics, or are logically 2/3 opposing scenarios.

EDIT:

MMA is often a this or that question except they'll have to include the likes of knockout or winning strategy like UD and SD, but you should know that most of us including me isn't familiar with MMA, and would rather just follow the sportbook odds like I would do for Formula 1 as well.

Like NBA or tennis (this or that lol) except to include number of sets or games, MMA has many more combinations. I knew zero about it too until I played prediction contests from Sportsbet Smiley Actually I still know 1% about it but at least UD and SD like you said are familiar to me now.

They're completely different in terms of the way the question can be asked, for a full tour of about 64 matches combination gets played within 7 days and you're to pick the finalist, that can never be compared to MMA where there is often an easy way to answer question imo, if it's 3 round, I'll always go for UD on the favorite, I might likely be right 6/10, or 0/10, but I'll fancy my chances with the former, the NBA question that were asked were a combination 4 different match ups a couple of times too, I even believe the highly ranked boxing events with 12 rounds will be tougher to guess/predict than MMA, but I'm not against having MMA questions, because I now spend most of my Saturday or Sunday nights to watch every single fixture even the prelims, especially when I put in my prediction SB sponsored thread by jeremypwr and that's how I often find out if there is a Fight Night, or UFC round for the weekend generally.

In case anyone thought I hated DOTA I totally don't. I kinda like the questions, really enjoyed them. I'm not even trying to put MMA vs DOTA and which is better or worse, cricket, should be in BSFL too agree but it is so hard to go for questions in cricket, but I should say, go for the easy to count scores, like "how many 4s or how many 6s".

No need to complicate cricket. Google gives you all those answers live, you will get 4s and 6s even if game is cancelled halfway or goes to draw. And that's for me also how I see how big a sport is, if Google covers it live, then it's worth it for them to do so, right? That means it can't be a fringe sport.

I mean if you google MMA you get way more news and stats, with live video sometimes unlike DOTA, where you need the experts to tell us even where to find the draw information, so I don't know which is the fringe sport (thanks for liquipedia but I didn't found it from Google at all).

@notblox1 I disagree DOTA gives Cro2 advantage, you know I suck at La Liga pool and I personally think that is my most comfortable league in terms of knowledge lol! Anyway I recall you are the MMA expert, how many big events per year are there? See if you can fulfill Trofo's explanation above about how to get a foolproof answer to a question. Right now, the easiest I can think of comes from MMA predictions and very easy to verify because Google tracks all the results of UFC, which is "How many of the fights on Main and Preliminary cards (you can even see this on the Google search tabs) go the distance"? Which means, it will reach Round 3 or 5 (the max). Cancelled fights don't count, but every other outcome doesn't matter, just whether it reaches last round or not.

slaman29,,, Time for me to revenge you for winning the freebet, here is a hint,,, I made only 1 small risk in the selections, of course according to my feelings Wink

@notblox1 I really don't even don't think Trofo is the one in charge of setting this question and as far Esports is concern it's almost synonymous to tennis, no average middle aged guy loves Tennis outrightly, but we are forced to learn more about them and all I can say after a couple of months of consistent viewership is that I'll definitely take some Alcaraz vs a below 30 ranked player now rather than watch Brighton vs Chelsea football come the regular football season, but still I barely put my money on Tennis because the odds and chance doesn't correlate in my opinion.

MMA is often a this or that question except they'll have to include the likes of knockout or winning strategy like UD and SD, but you should know that most of us including me isn't familiar with MMA, and would rather just follow the sportbook odds like I would do for Formula 1 as well.

I have be clamoring for CS:GO questions not because it's the perfect spectrum for me, but at least I understand their players aim when streaming and how it work generally so it's literally fun watching for me, meanwhile I just stream Dota 2 for hours, I see kills scores but I really still don't understand major concepts like pros and cons of it, I just follow the commentary to know which team is having a better chance/game.

It only shows that nobody is having it fair and square here, the aim oof the sponsor is to bring wide audience to other sports, and in my opinion it is working, the only solution about MMA or UFC questions is that the Cro2 team can reach out to jeremypwr he knows the order of importance and expected spectators of these matches, perhaps it could be of help going forward.
To be fair I am in charge of eSports questions since I follow that much more than cryptofrka. When we started we decided we will occasionally include DOTA, CS:GO and LOL questions in the BSFL as the eSports on which a lot of money is being thrown while betting. I tried to make CS:GO question twice and failed to do it in a way that it is full proof. Meaning I couldn't guarantee question will be valid by the time deadline passes. eSports are expending quickly and they are here to stay, they will always be part of this competition no matter what somebody say but they will never have more than one question per round and will probably only be included in couple of rounds.

I have never in my life watched a basketball match or F1 race, I have no interest in American sports altogether and something from those questions is included in every round. Those sports will continue to be included and cryptofrka will probably be the one writing those questions all the time.

We would love to include more MMA but here is the problem of identifying big tournaments, let us know and we will do it. We had it at least once already. We also wanted to include cricket a couple of times but we couldn't ask a question in a way it that we would get and answer 100% before round ends.

Once again, you all know how the question look, if you are following some fringe sport and it has big tournament coming up - write the question for us. We will include it if it is good which means:
*it gets resolved from Tuesday to Sunday
*Has covered all possible outcomes in answers

Why don't some of you take that opportunity and give yourself an advantage? But it doesn't work that way since when I am making the questions and answering them I am in totally different states of mind. Try it and see for yourself.

Sour looser, my favorite kind, means I got into your head  Grin You should have won this one long before DOTA, by far my worst round and only win of the season. RNG at its best. I feel the same about all American sports. To make it worse Americans themselves classified them as entertainment so that players can use any substance they want.
Nobody here likes DOTA except you, so I am not a sour loser Trofo, and you are taking advantage because you follow video games that are not sport.  Grin
American sport is a sport, and nobody can deny that, but I dont follow NFL, baseball and many other sports.

You know if you have some fringe sports you are following, feel free to send us a question about it in these months where there isn't that much proper sports. We wanted to include cricket game in last round but did not know how to make the question so that it is finished before the deadline. Only two conditions it has to be bulletproof (covering all possible outcomes) and reasonably easy to grade (official page with results).
I did send my suggestion for MMA and it was Croatian fighter on purpose as a bribe, but you guys compared it with sport team Brighton and you never heard about him.
So after that I am starting to doubt if you guys are really from Croatia or not Wink

Well ok the basketball question is a bit more difficult because u19 teams also change a lot and I am not sure, but I think it is harder to rely on past results I guess? But still these questions are a bit easier to be researched. I spent a lot of time on the DOTA question in the last round because I had no idea how likely it is for a team to get into the grand final from the lower bracket. But I found some statistics and was confident that even if the Gaimin Gladiators would start from the lower bracket that they have been known for being a team you can't ever write off. That's why I chose them as a grand finalists when at the time they've been on the lower part of the table.

It is also good that Cryptofrka and Trofo chose to play this round as well even though there is not that much going on. It is still fun to do some research and look forward to the respective events.

I noticed that the 8th question might have to be revised (or voided) because I can't see De Minaur on the ATP 250 Eastbourne draw, and Nicolas Jarry probably filled his spot as he's also advancing straight to the next round aside from the top three seeds.
Well question is still sort of fine. I guess you know what answer you will not choose now Smiley

Did not see the news but if it is true that just means he did not reach second round and question is still valid. Of course in the end it will be almost like void cause everyone will chose same answer but this is also ok since it will punish those few that did not read the news or this post of yours. It wasn't intended as trick question but we are fine to have even trick questions here and there.

I needed this draw like breathe of fresh air. 3 loses in 3 opening rounds and the facing league leader doesn't sound like good combination.

Thanks for the freebets! I don't think I was ever a contender in the first season. I also need to thank arallmuus for the win -- had his picks counted, we'd be 5-4 for a win to him mainly thanks to GG somehow winning the final. Close call for me =D

You're right I don't see him either, but seem to recall reading several outlets saying he's playing Eastbourne as his girlfriend also is. Jarry has indeed replaced him according to this article. Don't really get the explanation there, if he pulled out...

Congrats to leea for the third win and handing my first loss. I did so poorly this round that I couldn't even get the Dota question correctly despite watching the tournament from start to finish.  Tongue

It is my first experience in the BSFL and it has started like a nightmare. With Round 3 results it is going to be 1 draw and 2 losses already.  Sad
We still have several weeks before the season ends, and the gap isn't wide yet to start worrying. I also had a bad start last season and eventually found my momentum with the easier matchups midway through the season.

Thank you very much,,, I honestly was not expecting so much but getting 3 out of 3 is a great start and I cannot ask for more.

Starting with 0 points out of the first 3 questions, I can't complain that it still turned in my favor. Without the really lucky 3 or 4 goals question in the EURO U21 games this would have ended in a draw between ulven and me. Luck exhausted for me now? Wink
