better everyday ♥
We cannot forget that in these tests, athletes from African countries are also very good.
According to my memory, the current achievement is not a good one for them like in the past. In my memory, in previous olympics, they used to do better than that  Cheesy Just to say a little more, Japan made this event even more epic by their organization. Anyone want to predict which team will continue to lead in the coming days?

The pressure on her must be immense. She's the face of the US at these games, and a huge favourite to win multiple golds. It's impossible for us as viewers to understand the amount of stress she must be under... for any athlete there would be nerves, but for someone in her position we just can't imagine it. It's brave of her to speak out, and comes on the heels of Naomi Osaka's withdrawal from the French Open. I think Biles has been brave, and it is good that people are understanding that despite their physical excellence, these athletes aren't unfeeling robots.
I do think that pressure on almost every single Olympian is a big deal. However the mental problem is always a thing that we should be considering as a big part of health, I understand that whenever someone's foot is broken people understand it, when you break your arm people understand, when you tore your ACL people understand, but whenever something happens in your mind, people do not understand it as well as they do other things and that should be something people care about and understand a lot more than they do right now.

This is why I give Simone Biles the credit for trying this much, she did whatever she could and reached this point with an injury basically, I am sure when she gets back and gets the help she needs, she will get better, it is not a disease that has zero recovery, you can still recover just like how a person who broke their foot can recover.

It seems that these Olympics are not going better for the United States.
At the moment, he is third in the gold medals. Will athletics events, will they win more gold medals? We cannot forget that in these tests, athletes from African countries are also very good.

We don't know the exact reason why Biles dropped out after the first rotation.
you can watch her interview as to why and what could have caused her mental health reasons that lead to her dropping out after 1 rotation.

here's a link to her interview if you are interested https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/jul/28/simone-biles-withdraws-from-tokyo-olympics-all-around-gymnastics-final

And I am surprised that there was so much expectation on the US women's artistic gymnastics team.
Simone Biles did an incredible job on winning four Olympic gold at Rio Olympics. so it was expected that there is a high expectation(especially to her) on US women's artistic gymnastics this year.

It was a pity for Biles to leave the competition, it would have made the race much more exciting. She has also already given up on the individual competition.

Apparently she is not well psychologically, and realizes the risk of being physically injured. It takes courage to take on this problem in public.

Force Biles, we hope you're in Paris 2024!

We don't know the exact reason why Biles dropped out after the first rotation. And I am surprised that there was so much expectation on the US women's artistic gymnastics team. This discipline was considered as a monopoly of the Soviet/Russian teams for many decades and only recently teams such as the United States started making inroads. During the cold war era, Romania was the only country that could offer some competition to the USSR women's team. Anyway, by the time of the next Olympics Biles will be 27. I am not sure whether she'll be selected.

The US management didn't gave a reason, but announced that Biles had to be withdrawn due to a "medical condition". She performed poorly in the first round of artistic gymnastics team final (vault), and was then replaced for the other three rounds (beam, floor and bars). And not surprisingly, despite being the favorites, US was resoundingly beaten by Russia (169.528 to 166.096). Artistic gymnastics is one of the disciplines in which there is direct competition between the US and Russia. Therefore it attracts a lot of attention. And after the women's event final yesterday, today we have the men's final. It is going to be very exciting, and once again it is going to be Russia vs US.

Serbia basketball team 3x3 lost semi-finals, after having seven wins in group stage
they have another match with Russia, and after win 21:10 in group stage, they lost semi-final 10:21 (same result), it is a major upset, odds for Russia were above 7 at the start

Latvia won second semi-final over Belgium 21:8, and set a final between Latvia and Russia, while Serbia and Belgium will play for bronze

Serbia is not doing good in Olympic basketball recently. For the 5-on-5 format, they even failed to qualify this time. Russia is another team that is in the decline, but they always take out their best performance in the Olympics. I am surprised with the performance from Latvia, as I never took them as a serious competitor in this sport. And I checked their medal tally so far, and it wasn't a surprise that their tally is zero currently. In case they win the gold medal, then it will be huge. Smaller nations in general has done well this time (Kosovo and Slovenia are examples).

BTW, in a few hours time the gold medal match between USA and Russia will start, for the women's 3x3 tournament.

I wonder if you allocate $ 100 and constantly bet the entire amount on the victory of the US basketball team, can you turn it into something worthwhile? I mean, after the first win, bet the $ 100 plus the amount won. For example 10 wins in a row with odds of 1.1 will give a total odds of 2.6. In principle, this is not so little.

Odds of 1.1 means that you need to win >10 matches in a row for positive returns. And what will happen if some upset occurs and they lose? You will suffer complete loss. It looks too risky for me. In the field of basketball, there is nothing like a guaranteed win. And especially in Olympic basketball, upsets occur every now and then. After the breakup of the USSR, the US has won every Olympic basketball event since 1996. So the chances of an upset is very low (especially given the presence of players like Kevin Durant). But two days back, they lost to France 76-83.

In fact, already 8 bets in a row won with a coefficient of 1.1 give a return on funds plus a profit of 14%. It looks good, but unfortunately the bet on a clear favorite is often 1.05 and this is already really unacceptable. Plus, any series ends sooner or later and there is always a risk of losing. I think 1.1 odds are only good for multi-bets to slightly increase profits from other events.

Simone Biles has some kind of psychological issue, she's calling them 'demons inside her'. She's been struggling psychologically before the Games as well, sometimes she performs without issues and sometimes she freezes.
She wasn't actually replaced, she withdrew by her own decision - she stated she isn't in a state to perform but was cheering the team and looked really relieved when they won the silver medal.

Yeah, I do agree, recently Naomi Osaka has open up about the mental problem she has to face, and in so doing, she skipped a lot of tournaments. But then again, she failed in this Olympics already, representing the host nation. So just imagine a former #1 seed and the pressure on her shoulder to win the tennis olympics is so immense and then she failed. And obviously, Biles could have been undergoing this bad process in his life. I do think that media has to blame for all of this, specially on women's athletes.

A weird situation in general because she was supposed to lead that team, fair play to the rest of the USA team that stepped up.

Well, those who are going through a very good time is the USA team, they are showing why they are a power in basketball, in this case they beat Nigeria 81-72, great for the USA.

They have already won 50 games in a row, and the table goes like this:

Japan might surprise everyone because of home advantage though.

It will certainly help, yes... but perhaps not as much as we might expect. A big part of home advantage is having the roar of thousands of fans cheering you on. In this strange pandemic Olympics the competitors are performing in front of rows of empty seats. But still home advantage will certainly count for something. And it will help that as host nation, Japan are allowed to compete in every event.

Here it is less of the crowd cheering but the fact that Japanese athletes did not have to travel, did not have to self-quarantine and live in a strange village and sleep in a different time zone and eat food that they may not like as much.

So the body is conditioned regularly and it is like business as usual for them whereas for their opponents it might not be so:)

Plus yes, competing in every event! Even if you did not qualify,,, huge advantage I agree!

I love it when small countries (especially new ones) win medals - I always root for the underdogs, especially in the Olympic tournaments.

Me too. You'll be pleased to know that today has been a historic day in this regard. Flora Duffy won gold in the women's triathlon for Bermuda. This makes Bermuda the smallest country ever to win an Olympic gold. Their only other medal (of any colour) was a bronze in boxing in 1976. Fantastic achievement... particularly as their whole team at this Olympics comprises only 2 athletes! The other is competing in men's rowing Smiley

I don't know if there are many smaller nations. Perhaps the Vatican could send a team? Cheesy

Probably just a morale boost and some added pressure because they can't be losing in their home, I mean look at Russia back when they hosted FIFA, they are on a homecourt but they didn't even make it to the semi finals.
