He is definitely beatable but harder to beat in a GS
Best of five sets matches give that little bit of extra security and time for top players to find their way to victory. Both Djokovic and Nadal are much tougher to beat in those long matches. Granted, if his shoulder injury is real than extra time would not have helped him this time around.

I was not so surprised with him losing to Zverev, he is a player that can beat anybody when in form. That loss against Busta was much bigger surprise for me, Busta is a player that simply has no weapons to power trough 100 percent ready Djokovic.

Bencic did fantastic to win Gold and Silver. Great to see someone unpredictable winning.

And the same for Zverev, everyone including myself was prempting Djokovic for Gold and
possibly Tsitsipas to meet him but few talked about Zverev, well done to him and
unbelievable that Djokovic didnt even medal at all.

He is definitely beatable but harder to beat in a GS

In the Women's section Belinda Bencic won a gold medal in singles and a silver medal in women's doubles, a great achievement for her.

Djokovic obviously did not forget his previous match with Busta, on last US Open, when he has hit the judge with the ball, to be disqualified in the end
But he has tried, it is obvious that the match lasted 3 sets meaning he is trying to get a medal, three defeats in 3 semifinals of the Olympics and one in mixed doubles it looks like the Olympics is not an easy tournament for his to beat.

Yes its a first and a well deserverd win he performed well and beaten djokovic with a comeback and today an easy win against khachanov he stopped his h2h domination in the last couple of games and honestly its his best achievement this year.

agree, congrats to Zverev, he won it, despite all eyes were on Djokovic and Golden slam
Khachanov made it to the final, and that is also a success, bearing in mind that there were better players knocked-out in that part of the draw

Busta took bronze, after having a win over Djokovic, that was to nervous to play, could say tired as well, but he would find strength, if he had been a bit less nervous

ZVEREV from Germany won the Gold medal and beat the Russian KHACHAOV by 2-0 in today's Gold medal Match. That's he first ever win from Germany in the tennis in the Olympics. This is an historic win for Zverev and Germans.  Smiley

He really did it and i am very happy that he managed to pull it off! I guess no one expected him to win the gold medal before the tournament started because djokovic was probably the absolute favorite for 95% of the experts and bettors especially after Nadal and Federer did not participate in the olympic tournament. I also was not to sure if he could win this gold medal match today because i had the feeling that he was completely overwhelmed after his upsetting win against Djokovic. So i feared that he maybe won't perform that well in todays match because he was the favorite now and that's a completely different situation. He did deliver though and won in a convincing way!
Also congrats to Khachanov, a silver medal is also a huge success.

Djokovic lost earlier was a big upset and i lost my bet that day.  Sad
I know it was not easy to digest his loss in the race to Olympics gold medal. However after seeing today's match, i think Zverev deserve to win the title.

Zverev is a class player when playing in top form, glad he managed to get gold medal. Maybe he will use this confidence boost to perform better in upcoming tournaments. He often had problems when pushed to the limits in the past, I remember several matches where he had 10+ double faults.

Congrats to Zverev and Germany for winning the gold medal in year's Olympic. I think after his won against Djokovic, he is expected to bag the gold. Good win also for Khachanov, for me it wasn't expected for him to even in the medal standing but he play exceptionally well.

I think with this Zverev win, he will surely be one of the favourites in the US Open together with Djokovic, (hopefully he can recover on time to compete.)

We were able to listen to Novak's statements, finally with some reasoning behind: he knows that he'll recover from this Olympic delusion. He'll try to be there in Paris 2024 to win a medal for Serbia. Of course he's sorry to have disappointed many fans in his country, but this is sport, he said he gave all the energy he had, which was not much apparently. He now hopes that the physical consequences will not be a problem ahead of the US Open.
I have no doubts, he'll get back stronger than ever, learning from this defeat.

Did not watch bronze medal match but I sort of feel like Djokovic lost it a bit after losing chance for gold and entered self destruct mode. After seeing him breaking racket and cursing I decided to try and cash in on his nerves, just placed a bet against him in mixed doubles for high stakes. Have a feeling it will be two very bad days of his career.

Everybody needs to know that he is emotionally tired and his body is tired as well he just came from winning Wimbledon here and the weather here is too hot. So i understand him that he didnt have fuel to finish the olymipics. He gave it his all . Needs to rest for the all slams for US Open
He maybe tierd, but I believe that the opponents have improved. If the loss is out of his continuous schedule, he should've lost to Kei Nishikori. He defended him and won the match to get qualified for the semi finals. He had confidence, this time it hasn't helped him succeed. He is unlucky to win a Olympic gold, because next time possibly he'll be retired.
it's going to take place on 2024 in Paris, so he would be 37, we can't say that he will retire because we don't know, but can he really keep playing as good as he is right now ? also it's in Paris and it's going to be on clay, maybe it's a disadvantage for him because he doesn't play his best tennis on that surface, i actually think it could be between Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem because they're still young, play well on clay and they can build up their confidence in the upcoming 3 years.

Djokovic has already won tournaments on almost all surfaces and I think he will have a chance in 3 years in Paris.
He is still on the top level and 37 is no longer old age in tennis;  ask Federer  Grin
Djokovic will have a strong motive in Paris to finally win the only tournament he is missing in his career.

You found the right words to describe it, he went into self-destruct mode.
Unrecognizable Djokovic: imprecise, slow in moving his legs, exhausted and nervous, so nervous that he threw his racket away for the umpteenth off-ball. It was his brother's turn to retrieve it and bring it back to him. After yesterday's semifinal loss to German Zverev Nole  he said that his tennis suddenly collapsed.
I guess we all saw that.

In a previous post it was mentioned that Djokovic is focusing all his attention on the US Open, but in the bronze medal match you can see that he is very disappointed or rather angry as mentioned in the quote. For me personally, he took the Olympics very seriously and wanted the gold medal. But surprisingly, it didn't work out for me either. But nervously he has already made one or two slips before.

Well if he didnt want to win the olympic games he wouldnt even come to the games. He had a strong desire to win a gold medal all his life but i guess he was just too tired. He needs to focus on the next grand slam and recover really fast. Its normal for him to be nervous he is very emotional when it comes to playing for country

It just wasn't Djokovic's tournament, that's just the way it is. But for him to lose his nerve and destroy his racket is not professional in my opinion, even if he has lost his nerve a few times.

I'm curious whether Thiem will be fit to defend his title at the US open, but my favourite to win the Grand slam is Djokovic again.

Yup, and now he even admit that his chances on US Open is slim because of his shoulder injury. High hopes for him in the Olympics, but when he hits a snag against Zverev and didn't score any points in like 8-9 games, he might have affected him mentally.

And it's the first time that Djokovic has somewhat of this breakdown, self-destruct mode, usually he has composure when his back is against the wall, but this is different, maybe he was thinking that it might be difficult for him next Olympics and this is his best chance but he fail.

It was the chance of a lifetime for Djokovic to win the Olympics given that many other topplayers skipped these games. Didn't really expect it, but I am glad that Zverev won and he is also the favorite to win the gold against Khachanov.

An interesting game in the atalanta atp in the semi finals between john isner and Fritz as we know this is isner favourite competition and he won it many times and he is an expert in american hard courts but it will be difficult because i think this year fritz performance is slightly better i think this will be a tight game we can see three sets.
