A couple more interesting match up's today with a couple of seeded players against
each other. Nakashima is favourite to beat Kudla but can Kudla again come through
against the odds?

Kudla v Nakashima- 3.15 - 1.34
Sinner (5) v Korda (12) 1.74 - 2.06
Brooksby v Felix AA (2) 2.31 - 1.59
Nishikori v Norrie (7) 2.13 - 1.69
Opelka (8th) v Millman (11) 1.53 - 2.45

Sinner vs. Korda is pick of the day for me. Should be cracking match and I expect it to go to third set decider so maybe I'll put little something on over games or Korda to take one set if odds get better later on. When betting against the favorites in tennis it pays to wait until start of the match. The odds often get much skewed much more as people pile they money on favorite.

Nadal needed 3 sets yesterday and barely scraped trough in deciding set tie break. Still a bit out of match fitness it seems. Best to skip betting on him until we have more data to go on.

Osaka, Swiatek and Kenin has withdraw from the National Bank Open in Montreal Canada.

This is the tournament leading up to the US Open, both Osaka and Swiatek are injury free, but base on their statement, they just want to take a break and rest.

While Kenin was out due to injury she suffers (foot).

On the mens side, Djokovic withdraw as well.

Didnt Djokovic announce this last month?  is he playing at all before the US Open?

In Washington only 3 of the 4 favourites below came through their matches.
Kudla beat Fritz in 2 sets and started really well breaking Frits' first 2 games.

Fritz (10) v Kudla - 1.35 - 3.10
Ymer v Millman(11) - 2.11 - 1.71
Sinner (5) v Ruusuvuori - 1.56 - 2.38
Bublik (9) v Nishikori - 2.37 - 1.57

Nadal also won his match against Sock.

The program of Tuesday, August 3 at the Atp 500 tournament in Washington 2021 has a few interesting games on the board: the challenges continue on the U.S. concrete in preparation for the Us Open. I see great challenges between the American Kudla and the Spanish Lopez. Jannik Sinner will also be playing in the doubles with the American Sebastian Korda against Paire-Withrow.
It's not my gig, and I wouldn't know any good bet? Any hints?
Yes i am interested in this tournament its a prepartion for the us open for some of the players who were absent in the olympics and especially nadal who will be very interested in showing a great performance for a win to give him a moral boost for the is open and i will be watching dimitrov who has been away from the spotlight and not performing well recently.

Not putting my money on Washington today. I am expecting some strange results and there is no match that interests me today. Maybe tomorrow when all seeds enter the tournament.

Regarding the doubles match you mentioned it could be interesting to watch. Paire is always lots of fun on the pitch and he is solid double player, never seen any of the other guys playing doubles. I would put my money on Paire combination or over games, better odds and for me this match can go either way and probably gets decided in match tie break.

Well today we see the first mini upset, 16th seed Tiafoe was beaten by Brooksby.

There are also some tricky match up's today, seeds against non seeded players,
I find it hard to pick winners from these and the odds are quite close on sportsbet

Fritz (10) v Kudla - 1.35 - 3.10
Ymer v Millman(11) - 2.11 - 1.71
Sinner (5) v Ruusuvuori - 1.56 - 2.38

US Open starts in a month or so, even if he was injured it will heal properly until then.

It has to be said though that Đoković is one of the worst losers in sport. He always finds some injury or whatever, I remember when he was playing in Doha and Lopez was kicking his ass taht he forfeited because he said that sand got into his eyes. Then when he lost last season he said he couldn't play properly because some holy man died in Serbia or whatever.

Don't get me wrong, he's probably going to retire as a player with the most Grand Slams in tennis. But when he loses, it was never because the opponent was better.

I agree for 100% and that's exactly the reason why I don't like Djokovic. Federer or Nadal will always admit, that if they are beaten cleanly, that there opponent was simply better. While Djokovic will probably win the most GS, he will never ever be the GOAT in tennis but that's another discussion.

he would not skip US Open in any case, and probably not that injured as well, just finding an excuse for a loss
and will be a favorite there, not sure about Nadal, will he play at US Open, or skipping all tournaments until the end of the year? Medvedev, Zverev and Thiem could fight him on that surface, but on three sets, probably just make match more interesting
For sure Djokovic will not skip the US Open and he will still be one of the favourites going into this tournament. No final word for Nadal if he would enter in the tournament, but he is on the Citi Open in Washington. So we will see how his injury has, or if he has recovered or at least 90%. If he is good then definitely, win or lose in Citi Open he will enter the US Open as this is a bigger stage.
We will look at the situation with Novak, because he is still not iron and his body can malfunction due to increased load, and as you well understand, the weather conditions in Tokyo were clearly not ideal about the heat and humidity. Moreover, Novak had to play in several types of programs. It is clear that Novak is very disappointed, because there was an opportunity to win all the Grand Slam tournaments and the Olympics in one season, but fate and fortune clearly had other plans in this regard. Let's hope that Rafa Nadal did not miss the Olympics for nothing and was able to really improve his health on the eve of the US Open and will also be able to claim the title.

Rafa will be using the Citi Open as a stepping stone or rebuilding tournament for the
U.S Open. With Rafa and Djokovic on 20 Slams each I would love to see a battle
royale between them.

Yes, that's what I'm trying to say, stepping stone for him and then hopefully when US Open comes along, he has somewhat regain his form entering the US Open.

Hopefully they will not be in the same draw, so that maybe we might see them in the finals. But for sure the road will be tougher as a lot of seeded players are going to enter this tournament.

He is definitely beatable but harder to beat in a GS
Best of five sets matches give that little bit of extra security and time for top players to find their way to victory. Both Djokovic and Nadal are much tougher to beat in those long matches. Granted, if his shoulder injury is real than extra time would not have helped him this time around.

I was not so surprised with him losing to Zverev, he is a player that can beat anybody when in form. That loss against Busta was much bigger surprise for me, Busta is a player that simply has no weapons to power trough 100 percent ready Djokovic.

Thats a good point about the Grand Slams being the best of 5 sets, we saw already this
year where Djokovic gave away 2 sets and came back to win the French open v Tsitsipas.

Rafa will be playing in the Citi Open on Wednesday, so for sure many will watch and see how his foot is after the injury. This is just a test tournament for him, so I'm not sure if he can win this tournament. His focus will be the US Open, so if he feels that he can still compete at the high level, then we can still see him in the tennis circuit. We might see him rusty, this is his first game tournament after almost a 2 month layoff.

During the press conference before the tournament in Washington, there was no shortage of questions about the Olympic Games. Nadal expressed all his regret for not being able to participate in the Olympics, where he boasts two gold medals.
As you know Novak was beaten by Zverev, who then won the gold medal. Nole was then forced to forfeit the mixed doubles due to a shoulder problem. The hope is that he will recover as well as possible for the US Open. Nadal went on patronizing Novak as he threw away his racket because that's not a great teaching to kids....

regarding match with Busta, it is obviously hard for Djokovic to play after lost match, and that was seen (it is also not a habit for any tennis player, after lose you go to other tournaments, not playing more matches on the same) - he is also bad after losing group matches on Final masters, usually snap in semi-final, after lose in a group

And that's what makes Federer and Nadal above him as greatest of all time because of his attitude. Both are good and shows sportsmanlike in defeat, unlike Djokovic though, I know that he is a competitor but sometimes he has a lot of excuses when he lost.

He can't just admit it specially if some lower rank players are playing good and he can't keep up with them, just like in the Zverev match.

Bencic did fantastic to win Gold and Silver. Great to see someone unpredictable winning.

Yeah, good win for Bencic, I'm mostly banking of Osaka to at least reach the finals.

And the same for Zverev, everyone including myself was prempting Djokovic for Gold and
possibly Tsitsipas to meet him but few talked about Zverev, well done to him and
unbelievable that Djokovic didnt even medal at all.

I too post high hopes on Tsitsipas but at the same time he is not that good in this surface. Zverev goes out of the radar for us and then he suddenly win his games and then eventually upsetting Djokovic, so also in the mens side, it is unpredictable.

He is definitely beatable but harder to beat in a GS

The most important thing is that Khachanov got to the final because before the final, few people expected that such a final would turn out and such players would play the final in the most important match of their lives. It's amazing how Djokovic started this season and already everyone seems to have started thinking, including himself, about winning the golden Slam, which only Steffi Graf had previously sworn, but it turned out that health is not unlimited and even such a super player cannot play on several fronts and play in the harsh conditions of the Olympics. Now we will see how Djokovic can recover and we mean that the young growth has felt the smell of blood and is ready to claim the highest titles.

Djokovic lost earlier was a big upset and i lost my bet that day.  Sad
I know it was not easy to digest his loss in the race to Olympics gold medal. However after seeing today's match, i think Zverev deserve to win the title.
i also lost a lot on Djokovic, i made bets on him when he was losing against Zverev and against Carreno Busta, i didn't make any bet in Zverev vs Khachanov, the odds were pretty low for Zverev to win and i was expecting him to win 2-0 but was afraid something happens and khachanov wins a set, a well deserved win for Zverev in his young age, there still a lot to come for this guy in the future.
