Australia V Germany was a great battle with Germany easily winning in the end. Nick Kyrgios was not at his best during this Davis Cup match up and it started to show in the final match against Alexander Zverev where he lost in straight sets even losing the 2nd set where he should of won.

So will all the top players be ready for the next big tournament?
I am waiting for Andy Murray to come back into tennis from his hiatus.
Since he missed the last two tournaments from when I remember him last to play in one. Undecided
I am personally getting tired of Roger Federer winning all of them.

I will never get tired of watching Federer win tournaments Smiley His game style is closest to perfection that anybody managed to achieve in this sport. Meaning attractive, short points, easy for the body (less injuries)....

On the other hand I would like to see all players, especially top ones back on the tour and 100% ready (Djokovic, Murray, Nadal, Wawrinka, Nishikori, Raonic...)

Same for me! The more tournaments Federer wins, the happier I am  Smiley. Last news I have read is that Djokovic is close to be 100% fit. Nadal is also almost back from his injury.

here are the matches of the first round of Davis Cup Wolrd Group:

France Vs Holland
Japan vs Italy
Croatia vs Canada
Australia vs Germany
Kazakhstan vs Switzerland
Serbia vs Usa
Belgium  vs Hungary
Spain vs Great Britain

so many important absences, for me the most interesting match is Australia vs Germany  A.Zverev vs Kyrgios

France, Italy, Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan, USA, Belgium, Spain that's my opinion.

Don't know who will play for other countries. But between Croatia and Canada I don't see how Canada could win this. Raonic is not playing. Pospisil is playing but he was sick and wouldn't play today if Polansky didn't get injured. So in my opinion Canada has one solid single player Shapovalov who doesn't know how to play on clay. Lost all matches on clay last season. They have also one good doubles player Nestor.

On the other hand Croatia has Coric, Cilic & Dodig for doubles. I see Canada taking 1 point max and that one should be Shapovalov win over Galovic later today or maybe doubles tomorrow if Croatia has 2:0 and selects B team.

Not to mention home advantage.
I think so too. Everything that you said is exactly how it is, Croatia should win this round easily. Most interesting duel should be Australia vs Germany. Spain and Great Britain is interesting duel too but since Spain is host team, they chose clay and traditionally Spanish players are great on that surface. And USA team is huge favorite in duel with Serbia who chose clay also and try to gain some advantage over USA team but I think that it wouldn`t be enough, Serbian team is playing without their best and most experience three players.
Yes you are right, I did't see that the games play on clay.

Up to now, only 2-0 won by Kazakhstan and Belgium and probably the United States.
All the other matches are on 1-1!
the double could be decisive in many matches

35-36 years old winning 6 5-setters in a row. Seems legit to me.
You don't need to be an Einstein to understand where this Federer's and Nadal's recent wins in slams came from.
Sadly, tennis became a corrupted joke.

Federer,  is more and more, the legend of tennis!
This year I think he wants to come back to first place in the atp ranking and reach the 100 tournaments won (at the moment he is at 96).
If he did the big slam (all 4 slam tournaments won in one season) it would be epic.

I think that he will never win anymore at France because there is a Rafa king and Roger is already in years, clay is slow substrate so that is why Roger skipped that last year and I believe that this year too.

Yes,it is very hard for Federer to win the Roland Garros again, for this if it would be an epic undertaking!
but it is already in the legend with 20 titles slam and 100 tournaments won.

I am thinking he will again skip whole clay season and do his best to be on 100% for grass. He has come to age and position in his career where he carefully chooses his tournaments. Furthermore, he is well aware that on Roland Garros his chances of winning are much smaller then other grand slams.

When can Roger Federe return to the first in the atp ranking?
If Federer will take part and win the 500 atp tournament in Dubai (which ends on March 3rd) he will be mathematically first and will be able to improve his record of 302 weeks in first place!

Congrats to Roger Federer, what an achievement. I don`t think that we will see some player winning 20 Grand Slam titles in the near future. I must say that, as a tennis fan, it is privilege to watch master at work.
By my opinion, he will miss some tournaments on clay surface, maybe even Roland Garros. Wimbledon is only month away from French Open and we all know what is his priority; taking another trophy on Wimbledon grass. Clay is such a demanding surface, player have top be 110 percentage physically  ready to compete on high level and also it doesn`t fit to his playing style. He doesn`t have strength to play both tournaments and I think that he will chose Wimbledon.
Once again, great great Roger Federer, I enjoy to watch him and I wish him all the best in this tennis season.

Roger Federer never allows himself to have it easy in any finals.
Especially the last Australian Open when he was playing against Nadal. He had to take a medical timeout when he looked like he was going to lose it but then after the break (inwhich I think if he didn't take it he would of lost to Rafael and then my bet of 50mbtc would of won ah well. Would've, could've!) he came back like a phoenix out of the fire to win it easily.
Sort of like this match which the final frame was 6-1 in Federer's favor

He managed to do it yet again.
The old dog in the tournament has his day! Grin
Congratulations Roger you can now retire and let the youngster have a go at it. Wink

Ah, Fedex really made me happy two Grand Slams in a row, but yeah, I thought he could have given himself an easier time. Both were tired by the final so I thought RF would have tried to bring it to a quick end, guess the Croatian wasn't quite ready to give up so easily. I said last year he had at least 1 left in him, and am happy to have bet on him having yet another. Probably best time to retire like you say while he's on a high but so tempting to have money on him again if he joins another tourney... the way he turns back the clock would make anyone get the shivers!

My betting's been really crap for the Women's, (even last year) so I should really probably stick to men's from now on.

I don't think he will retire soon, giving his form and motivation to go on. At the moment the other players are struggling with injuries (Murray, Nadal, Djokovic), so Federer has a good chance to win some more tournaments and grand slams!

He is not going to retire anytime soon as he said yesterday in a press conference that he is looking forward to coming back to Australia next year to play again and maybe breaking the record with a 7th Australian Open title. I actually would like to see him do it as he is the greatest player of all time. What Federer really needs now is another French Open title but it will be difficult for him if Nadal will be fit for the upcoming French Open. It would look much better if Federer has another French Open title in his trophy case but then again the same could be said for Nadal as his is mainly full of French Open titles.

Roger will not play anymore on clay.

I'm not so sure about that although I remember that he said that he will "limit" his play on clay. But I'm sure he wants to get those French title. It will be a "nice to haves" although clay is not his specially. Maybe he want's to limit but not totally eliminate the idea of chasing another French Open.

I have to agree, he will not retire, but he is very selective of what tournament he wants to play. So that he can rest his body and recuperate so that he can still play at par with the young generations.

I think he will definitely play in the French Open, but winning it will be very difficult if Nadal is fit. Federer can also choose his tournaments as he has nothing to prove anymore, he is already one the greatest player of all times, if not the greatest ever.
