I don’t think that is the right cause. I mean IPL is still few months away and India still have three more test matches left in this series. Also both IPL (T20) and test cricket are different formats. I don’t think anyone can give such an excuse for the poor batting performance. Also the players need to perform better in all games in order to give their 100% in IPL. If a player is out of form in the current series, how can he suddenly become in-form in the next tournament
You can't really ignore the impact from IPL. For Indian test performance, this impact has been mostly negative. Previously the Indian squad had quality test players such as Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, who would focus solely in test format. Such players are rare now. When someone plays T20 format for 80% of the time, he may face difficulties in transitioning to the longer format. And from what I can see, this was very evident during the second test match. Batsmen are being over-aggressive, and bowlers are not willing to experiment.
When a player plays regular T20 series or T20 league, but test playing endurance will decrease in him due to which the player will try to be aggressive. Basically, India might want to take a chance that they will include some attacking players in Test matches so that they can get more runs on the scoreboard in quick time. Their technique was correct because test cricket usually has maximum players inside the shot circle due to which it is easy for any T20 batsman to play big shots but since the opponent is Australia and they have the best bowlers, it may not be right to test against them.
There is a difference between T20 format and Test format. A player who bats aggressively in the T20 format cannot bat as aggressively in the Test format. If India wants to include attacking players in the squad for the third Test match against Australia, will it be the right decision for them? They should try to get their players back into form instead of making such a decision. The way India have been playing against Australia in this series, it is clear that none of their players are in good form right now.
Before announcing the team for the Test series against Australia, it must be considered that which Test player has a good overall performance against Australia and only those players should be appointed against Australia so that the competition between India and Australia will be even.
Before announcing the team for the Test match against Australia, it is also worth considering which Indian bowler can dismiss Travis Head. This batsman has been playing well in most of the matches against India, And was able to bring victory to his team.
