We have 47 overs left in today play so most chances as Englishmen falling we are going to have result very soon lower middle order batsmen not able to stay in last few matches so they cannot handle Patel and Ashwin here on this pitch hopefully now they have some good time for preparation they will do some better work and fight back in next match.

England may last another 5 overs or so.. and India might need 10 overs to chase the target. So I guess the match will be over before the dinner break. BTW, here is a list of shortest test matches:

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/283076.html

The most recent one was in 2018, when India beat Afghanistan in a match that lasted a total of 172 overs. Before that, the test match between South Africa and Zimbabwe in 2017 lasted just two days (152 overs).

The TV broadcasters are not going to be happy about matches ending in such short time. They usually sell advertisement slots assuming that the match is going to last at least 360 overs (4 days). Now they have to reimburse or carry over the advertisement fee.

Oh.. wait.. a very controversial decision by the third umpire. He asks the on field umpire to reverse his decision. It is confusing and I thought that he (Joe Root) was out.
It was indeed a misjudgment by the third umpire as the Joe Root hit the pad first but the camera angle might have confused him. Ben Stokes is gone and it is going to be a difficult pitch to bat and i would like to see Washington Sundar getting some overs as well as he is completely neglected by Virat Kohli and in a pitch that is helping the spinners tremendously.

The match is will be completed today itself, it seems. Joe Root just got out, trapped LBW by Axar Patel. England at 46/4 and they are leading by just 13 runs. I guess India will be able to keep the England lead down to around 50 runs and win the match before dinner today.

Anyway, at this rate, it will be impossible for England to get to a total of more than 100 runs in the second innings. They can't handle the Indian spinners, and on top of that the ground is behaving like a minefield.

England need quick wickets, not just 1 or 2 but at least 10 early wickets for comeback.  Grin Grin
Well, this joke didn't age well in Indian perspective  Grin Tongue England already took 7 quick wickets. 4 to leach and 2 to golden arm skipper Joe Root.

Let's target 50 runs lead, shall we?  Grin
Joe Root changed the match around with the ball. You cannot keep him out of the bat, if not for the bat he will make amends with ball on hand and if he bowled much earlier it would have been cool how the Indian batsman would have handled that.

England already lost 3 wickets and Axar Patel took those wickets and England need to put a long battle to save the match, the pitch is deteriorating badly and it is going to get tougher to bat and anything about 200 runs would be difficult even for India in the final innings. Root and Stokes are in the crease and they need to play the best innings of their life to rescue the team.

What you said is right, even an Indian batsman is struggling to score the runs, it was very tough for England to score the runs, Axar is the man who is getting most wickets in this match, I don't know why the pitch turns out to be very tough for the batsman, especially for the when spinners are bowling?

Ashwin and Axar are getting crazy amounts of turn. It is almost impossible to bat on this surface. Every run is being treated like gold dust. As usual, the Indian lower order added valuable runs (especially Ashwin, and to an extent Ishant), but the England lower order failed to do so. The partnership between Joe Root and Ben Stokes is going to be crucial. Stokes in particular, looks quite confident till now.

England batsmen are really struggling. I don't know whether they will be able to make a total of above 33, to make India bat again. In all probability, this test match is going to end in just two days. 65 overs remaining, and I guess it is more than enough for India to take the remaining 8 wickets and to chase the target. But a lot of questions will be asked about the pitch. If India had managed a good score in their first innings, then it was OK. But even the Indian batsmen were not able to score runs. Looking forward to tweets from Michael Vaughan.  Grin

I was not expecting fight back like this from Englishmen they done great job and now India is in pressure because they have to bat last even its just second day of this match very good bowling from Leach and Root both takes 7 wickets no Indian batsmen stay in front of them very early and interesting end of this match is waiting for us.

When Joe Root picks up 3 wickets without conceding a run, you known how much this surface supports the spinners. But I am not sure whether the strategy from England is right. They need just 2 more wickets and suddenly they became defensive against Ashwin. They are desperately trying to keep him out of strike, and in doing that they are conceding boundaries. They took the first 8 wickets by attacking and they need to continue doing it. Once they go defensive, they lose the momentum.

Oh.. Ashwin got out just now.. 4th wicket for Root.
What the hell is going on just 3 balls and 2 Englishmen out without disturbing scorer they are playing like really crap against this pink ball.

It seems Kohli has been struggling with his batting, I thought he would stick to the ground till the end but was out for just 27 runs. All hopes are now with Rohit Sharma and Rahane, they both need to stick to the wicket till the end of the match today if India wants to put on a big score.

Rohit is not the type of batsman who has the patience to bat all day. He prefers scoring runs quickly, irrespective of the ground conditions. India would be looking at a total of above 300, which can probably give them an innings victory. But if the lower order batsmen are able to make some good scores, then they can go much beyond that. Anyway for England, the match is essentially over and they are heading towards a humiliating defeat.
Rohit is a batsman who can convert good start into huge total in ODI as well as in Test, in this match also he got good start hope it will be another century by him.Match already started and everything looks good at the moment, and also IND already lead by 2 runs with still 7 wickets in hand hope they can put 200+ lead at least when they bowled out.

5 innings done and dusted for Kohli still no century. He's class batsmen and his conversion rate is best in the world so you don't expect him to fail continuously or miss out 100s. By his standard failure comes when he doesn't convert his 50s to big 100s. He was set in the second inning of first 2 tests where he scored 72 and 62 respectively but failed to convert, hope he's not competing with the Root lol (Root wasted 3-4 years due to this)

The dew factor and the reverse swing was considered to be a major factor that will help fast bowlers but the pitch looks like it is tailor made for India to win the match and England fell for the trap set as they just picked one spinner for the match and the Indian spinners dominating the first day and picked 9 wickets and spinners taking 11 wickets in the first day of the match means England was foxed by the pitch as they picked a spinner in the team Grin.

It is foolish to believe that the Indian pitches would offer any type of support to the pace bowlers. But I can understand the logic behind England picking only one spinner. Dom Bess was very wayward during the second innings of the first test, and also we need to keep in mind that the Indian batsmen are very good players of spin. On top of that, it doesn't make any sense to drop one among these three - Stuart Broad, James Anderson and Jofra Archer, in favor of Bess.

I don't expect England to dominate, even if they win the toss. Anderson is in the playing XI and that is going to be a big boost for England. For India, the pace attack will be led by Ishant/Umesh/Jasprit and if the conditions suit them, then the England batsmen will be in trouble. BTW, I don't give much importance to the fact that this is a D/N match. The pitch conditions are going to favor spinners as usual.

3 days? If England would have just around 2 experienced spinners in their squad this could have been the shortest test in the history of test matches.
England really messed up in this aspect. They should have learnt from the previous test match by including more spinners as you mentioned. Ali is a great example. Allowing Axar to play turned out to be an epic decision.

India look to be in a strong position and should take their time now to pile on the runs as I think England will struggle to chase anything over 300 runs so we could see India bat only once in this match as long as this partnership with Sharma and Rahane goes strong.
At this point, India seems like it could provide a 200+ lead unless they collapse which I doubt will happen considering the depth of their batting line-up.

That was a poor batting performance by England, I watched the first session before I went to sleep but I didn't miss much as England were bowled out cheaply.
