What a narrow 1st 4th quarter TD by KC... wow... just goes to show that in the NFL, you never know what's gonna happen. I wouldn't say that being up by 10 with 8 minutes to go in the 4th is a sure victory under any circumstance, but cmon... it looked like SF had this in the bag by that point. Not so.

As far as our thread contest goes, I won, thanks to the weird rules that I made:

I'm reserving 5 merits for the person who most closely guesses the final scores of the game. Others are welcome to pitch in additional merits for the victor as well -- let's go out with a bang.

So for instance, if you guess the final score is SF 14 - KC 21, and it was SF 21 - KC 24, that means you were off by a total of 10 points. If someone else guesses SF 17 - KC 27, they would only be off by 7, and thus closer to being the winner.

nutildah: SF 24 - KC 22 (13)
Hueristic: SF 37 - KC 34 (21)
tyKiwanuka: SF 25 - KC 51 (25)
wheelz1200: SF 31 - KC 35 (15)
DireWolfM14: SF 49 - KC 3 (57)
willy2streams: SF 34 - KC 28 (17)
kingcolex: SF 28 - KC 24 (15)
South Park: SF 34 - KC 27 (18)
bbc.reporter: SF 37 - KC 24 (24)
morvillz7z: SF 28 - KC 24 (15)

Please don't send me merits for this, as its a hollow and wholly insignificant victory. In any case, I want you to donate any merits you would have sent me to your favorite charity, or else to one of the other posters in this thread for a solid post they made either here or somewhere else.

Thanks to all you guys for participating in this thread. It was a fun ride, and I hope you enjoyed it. I'm going to let things wind down for a bit before finally locking it. Feel free to contribute some final thoughts!

Here's mine: we sure did suck as a collective at picking winners in the poll! I haven't analyzed the tally, but I would venture to guess we were about 50/50 in our Weekly Poll. They say the NFL is one of the hardest leagues to place wagers, and this season we proved them right.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
I cried myself to sleep last night.  Cry

What a disappointing loss.  So many opportunities missed by the Niners, and so many blown coverage in the 4th quarter.  Oh well, there's always next year.

Congratulations to Andy Reid, I'm glad he finally got a SB win.  It's been a long time coming for him, and he certainly deserves it.  Congratulations to the Chiefs and all their fans.  If any team was going to beat the Niners in the Super Bowl, I'm glad it was them.  Classy players and well deserved victory for them.
SF has a great team with young new talent and veteran players as well, they have a good coach and GM, the only doubts that I have are in the QB position, Garoppolo had the opportunity to win the game for SF, it was the time to show that whatever they were paying him was justified and just when they needed him the most he was unable to deliver, however I will not be surprised if SF is in the big game once gain in the next years.

And this bring us to Mahomes, there are reports KC will try to secure him and give him a long contract already, and after that performance I will do the same, but there are rumours that Deshaun Watson wants to wait for that and then ask for more money, but Mahomes is especial, I am a NE fan and even if I give a greater credit for the dynasty to Belichick, when Brady is on the field NE is never out of the game and could always pull a comeback and that is the sensation I get with Mahomes, and I have never gotten that feeling from Watson, so if I were the Texans I will do my best to not pay him that much.

Congrats to KC and their fans for winning the SB they deserve it.

So who actually came out ahead on their bets?
This is my embarrasing result:
4 out of 15

I finished 9th in the competition + 50 mBTC and 11 correct picks.
That 3rd and 15 play was huge for KC, it also cost me a few places up in the standings. If they didn't complete that pass, there were just 7 mins left, 49ers would've milk the clock (at least 3 to 4 minutes) and still a two-possession game (20-10 at that point). I had 49ers win and first to score to win, with those two i'd be at 13.

Welp I think I can honestly say I got every prediction as far away from reality as possible!

So who actually came out ahead on their bets?

This is my embarrasing result:

  • Coin Toss Winner Chiefs / 49ers WON
  • First 1st Down Chiefs / 49ers LOST
  • First Scoring Method Touchdown / Field Goal / Other  LOST
  • First Touchdown Scorer Jersey Number Over 26.5 / Under 26.5 / None LOST
  • First Team to Call the Time Out Chiefs / 49ers WON
  • Team Scoring First to Win the Match   Yes / No LOST
  • Super Bowl Winner   Chiefs / 49ers WON
  • Total Over 53.5 / Under 53.5 LOST
  • Any Player to Score Multiple Touchdowns   Yes / No LOST
  • Total Interceptions in the Match Over 1.5 / Under 1.5 LOST
  • Missed Field Goal in the Match? Yes / No LOST
  • Longest Field Goal Scored Over 47.5 / Under 47.5 / None LOST
  • Total Touchdowns in the Match   Over 6.5 / Under 6.5 / None LOST
  • P. Mahomes Total Passing Yards Over 300.5 / Under 300.5 LOST
  • Last Team to Score   Chiefs / 49ers WON

4 out of 15, a monkey can do better.

And when you then have a look at the leaderboard and see people getting 13 out 15 this is just unbelievable, considering all these bets were a flip of a coin more or less.

Our little internal contest here in this thread was a disaster for me too, so not much to cheer about.

Tough loss for the 49ers. They looked in control, had a solid lead and that bomb from Mahomes to Hill changed the whole momentum. 49ers defense was very good throughout the whole game and got a lot of pressure on Mahomes, but that one play ruined it all. It was a few plays here and there in the end that decided the winner and probably the fact of Mahomes being more clutch than Garropolo (that overthrow to Sanders was poor). Happy for Andy Reid though and the 49ers have a bright future ahead of them, if they are able to keep the core pieces together.

Have a great offseason everyone, free agency and the draft should give some food for discussion the latest again.

Some bets from the Sportsbet Promo have already been decicded (and I was wrong with a lot of them, although it started good with SF winning the coin toss^^):
Same for me there's already six questions settled and I only hit 2 so far (scoring method and team to call time out).

After mahomes gave up the ball earlier I really thought the 49ers could at least get a field goal and close this out now it's looking possible for the chiefs to come back.
Got Chiefs at 7.50x odds when they were in the 4th quarter with not a sign of hope for them to make a score. But then they got some momentum from Tyrann Mathieu's sack on Garoppolo late bringing it to 4th down. I believe that is where the tide had turned.

Also, what kind of statistics do you study before you make your bet? I am only a football casual who cheers for both teams hehehe. I want to be a regular bettor on the next season, however.

I am not studying any stats in NFL tbh and rarely do in other sports as well. Reason for that is, that I don’t see any added value, since everybody has those stats available and I am not delusional to think I am the best in drawing conclusions out of stats (i.e. beating algorithms). The foundation for the odds is always stats, so hard to find an angle with stats, if they are already priced in.

I am mostly watching lots of NFL games and rely on my gut feeling. But NFL is really hard to bet on and I am just doing it for fun.

Would be cool though, if you give it a try nevertheless next season and share your picks here.

Great position the 49ers are in now imo. Chiefs D has been pretty good in first half, but regressed a bit nearing halftime. I would expect the 49ers running game to wear them down in second half.

Happy for Juszczyk to get that TD, I have a soft spot for the dying species of FB's.

Here's a tally of guesses for the Super Bowl scores so far:

nutildah: SF 24 - KC 22
Hueristic: SF 37 - KC 34
tyKiwanuka: SF 25 - KC 51
wheelz1200: SF 31 - KC 35
DireWolfM14: SF 49 - KC 3
willy2streams: SF 34 - KC 28
kingcolex: SF 28 - KC 24
South Park: SF 34 - KC 27

6 for SF vs 2 for KC, exactly mirrors the poll.

Don't think I missed anybody, so if you haven't put your guess in yet, now's the chance!

I only saw this now. Is there a a prize hehe?

Prediction SF 37 - 24

In any case, I saw an interview of Dana White who was very excited that Tom Brady might play for the Las Vegas Raiders next season.

It might be what the new franchise might need to sell tickets for their new stadium hehehe.

What would Dana white know that everyone else doesnt know?  He has as good as chance of playing in Las Vegas as he does anywhere else that doesnt have a star qb or young qb.  My guess is that the patriots pay him to stay, who else is patriots gonna get in place of him.  Draft a high pick young qb and have him learn a year under the goat

Dana lives in Las Vegas and he and his group are looking for an NFL team to buy. I reckon that he might be updated on the news from behind.

In any case, Go 49ers!

Both teams brought me some profit during the playoffs but i'm joining the 49ers train. I think the match is in favor of the Chiefs but i'll take the risk on the 49ers, imo this should be very close than 55-45 the only reason why I think the Chiefs are favored is because they've trailed on their last two playoff match and still win while the 49ers haven't. Took the ML instead of the spread since all of their matches have been one sided. Lets go 49ers and good luck to everyone's score prediction.

I'm a numerology guy so I've been running the numbers for the big game and for me I am seeing a lot more line up for the Chiefs

The SB is on Feb second

How about this, Chiefs are designated home team today (1) and 49ers are designated away team (2)

02022020 It's clear as day imo, numbers point out to away team winning the SB, just too many 2s. Here's my palindrome prediction SF 32 - 23 KC

Super Bowl
Groundhog Day
Palindrome Day

Well I can add to this as well which can also point to the Chiefs winning. Check this out, palindrome when converted into numbers sums to 137 and 137 is the 33rd prime number. Patrick sums to 33 and Mahomes can become the 33rd QB to win the SB on the 33rd day of the year. The same can be said for Jimmy G as he can become the 33rd QB to win however Patrick sums to 33 which I like more. There is so much lining up for both teams when it comes to the numbers but I see a lot more lining up in the Chiefs favour. Anyway good luck everyone and lets hope for a good high scoring game.

The rumor that Brady is heading to Vegas seems to be spreading.  I heard mention of it on ESPN.  I don't think it's likely, but maybe.  I've heard that his wife and kids spend most of their time in a home in LA and his parents are still living in the SF bay area.  I don't know how accurate that all is, but if it's true I can see Brady wanting to be closer to all that.  I could see him being interested in Vegas or the Chargers.

Maybe after winning six Super Bowls with BB, he thinks a win with another coach will solidify his GOAT status.  He may feel like he wont have to share the credit for his career.  But, to be realistic he has the best chances of winning another Super Bowl by staying put.  The Pats were only a few dynamic plays away from moving on.  Lets not forget how they started the year.

In other news; Nick Bosa won Defensive Rookie of the Year!  Congratulations to Nick and the whole Bosa family.

GO 49ERS!

Yeah bosa clearly deserved it.  He is a monster, looks like the redskins will be getting the next great DE in chase, wish the giants lost a couple more games they need someone like that.  Let's see how the kid does in the bowl today.  Good luck to any chiefs or 49ers fans today
I do think this will be determined by the best defensive team as well. When it comes to superbowls they are won by not allowing your team to to be scored too much on or the team starts to lose confidence in reaching the finish line.
The Chiefs are an offensive powerhouse but 49ers have the defensive edge in this game. If they can get Mahomes as much pressure to him in the pocket, they can squeeze him for interceptions then ride it out from there.
I lost over 1 eth to Kansas City in the middle of the season and am doing a revenge bet on them tonight. Angry

Go 49ers! Grin
