Most San Franciscans are proud of the city; it's a beautiful chunk of real estate, nestled in one of the most beautiful regions of the planet.  I think there's just a sentiment that it's such a beautiful place it deserves the use of it's full name.  No shortcuts or laziness allowed when invoking it's name.  And don't get me wrong, it's more of a light-hearted, humorous debate than it is derisiveness.  Almost a way for locals to laugh at themselves for "taking themselves so seriously."

I haven't been there since, well, last century, but when I was there I did have a good time. My first girlfriend ever was from San Anselmo. I stayed in a crackhead part of the city with her for 1 night. We of course went to Haight/Ashbury, because thats the most important thing you should do if you were me. Went to the the Amoeba Records there. It was weird seeing the homeless hippie kids begging for money on the street, trying to save up to buy some ecstasy or whatever.

I did go to a rave in Oakland. The original venue was cancelled and in its place you were supposed to call a phone number (this was pre-cell phones mind you) to find out where the new venue was (in this case, Oakland). My girlfriend's parents nearly threw a fit when they found out we were - gasp - going to Oakland for a - double-gasp - RAVE. But we ended up having a good, clean time!

The place was still raided by cops a few hours in, but they didn't shut it down. Just checked a few peoples' pupils for dilation - not ours. Not that it mattered because it was an acid drum n bass party and they didn't even have E. So we were sober. LOL.

Anyway, probably the most enchanting part of it was driving over the Golden State Bridge... Now that's a trip. Don't even need drugs to enjoy it.

Also anyway, go Niners! LOL.

No, no, no!  The Holy Hand Grenade comes from Antioch, which is on the other side of the bay.  Cheesy

Honestly never heard of that slight on san fransisco.  I used it more lazily as it's more shorthand to me.  What is the reason behind the slight and why residents dont like the shorthand?

San Francisco has had a few nicknames over the centuries but none that have really endeared themselves to the locals.  In fact "Frisco" is probably the oldest and yet, the one most despised by locals.  "San Fran" is not the worst one, but it just sounds funny.  I haven't lived in San Francisco proper since I was 7 years old, but I've spent most of my life within an hour's drive.  To us locals, it's "San Francisco" or simply "The City."  "SF" is a common abbreviation in writing, but hardly ever used in conversation.

I'm really hoping that my futures bets on the Chiefs and Packers come through for me. I am thinking about hedging on the Titans as they are the dark horse and I do think they can cause an upset so I have taken them early on to cover the spread. If Titans win, then I think 49ers win.

I was relieved when the Titans knocked out the Ravens, I really didn't want it to be a repeat of Super Bowl 47.  But now, I'm thinking that it's the Titans that scare me the most.  One of the things that sets the 49ers apart is their strategic planning, but Vrabel has shown in recent weeks the he can strategize with the best of them.  The titans have been pretty darn impressive, I can see them upsetting the Chiefs this weekend.

Just a little snippet of trivia for you guys, and warning if you ever find yourselves visiting Northern California; don't call it "San Fran," it pisses off the natives.  I heard Aaron Rodgers utter those words after beating the Seagulls last Sunday, and being a NorCal native himself he knows full well what a snub that is to The City and it's denizens.  I'm sure he picked those words very carefully knowing how it would make us cringe.

But even though he was being a bit of a troll, he didn't go full troll and call it "Frisco."  That would be unforgivable, and might cause Emperor Norton to turn in his grave.

...Emperor Norton to turn in his grave....

Never heard of him but after reading the wiki this is all I can think of to describe his life.

Also never heard of "San Fran" being derisive, why is that?

@Hueristic. There was no KYC on cloudbet 2 years ago when I bet there on the Game of Thrones. However, I lost some bitcoins from those bets. Maybe that was the reason hehehe.

In any case, talk to @Ronnie in Cloudbet thread.

Thanks, I was looking at the promo match and they are requiring 30x.

That seems pretty friggin high to me.

I never like green bay when they arent playing home and on top of that san fran getting to the qb quick doesnt bode well for GB.  Rodgers needs time in the pocket because they dont win games with short quick routes.

Same here.
Both games are priced the same, with the home team being 1.30-ish, but I would give SF better chances to advance than KC. Packers didn't show anything the 49ers should be afraid of or what they can't handle. Packers struggled in that second half and if the Seahawks would have gotten the ball back with just a little bit of time, I think we would be up for a SEA@SF match on Sunday.
As wheelz pointed out, I expect the 49ers defense to create lots of havoc, while scoring with relative ease themselves. SF wasn't really tested against MIN in divisonal round and that is maybe something that speaks against them; probably being a bit overconfident. But in the end, it's in the hands of the 49ers who goes to Superbowl from the NFC. If they are focused and take care of the ball, I only see one winner here. HC looks tempting, but will wait for inplay. The total is around 46 points and I am thinking over here, but not sure if GB will help with a lot of points.

If SF is 1.30-ish, I don't think the Chiefs should be 1.30-ish too. The quality gap between SF/GB is bigger than between KC/TEN. Titans are the hottest team right now. Doesn't matter what you have done from September to December - if you are the best team in January, you will win the Superbowl. Are the Titans the best team right now ? From what I have seen so far, probably yes. Everyone is waiting for them to be that good old middle of the pack Titans team again - and that is priced in as well - but I think they might keep riding that wave. Home advantage is of course huge for the Chiefs, so they might go through in the end nevertheless. Texans gave the Chiefs a good scare, but after shaking off their rust, they were running like a well oiled machine. This looks to be the end of the road for TEN, but ML has some value me thinks.

On another note, Luke Kuechly has announced his retirement yesterday, which was quite a shocker to me. He is only 28 and was one hell of a MLB, who I always enjoyed watching doing his job. Tough loss for the Panthers, such good MLB's are hard to find.

@Hueristic. Hehehe yes. I have been tempted already on Cloudbet with their better odds.

https://www.cloudbet.com/en/sports/american-football/tennessee-titans-win-super-bowl-liv/o2045132

In any case, fair odds for the Greenbay Packers on +7 and modest value on the Titans +7.5. Derrick Henry is underestimated hehe.

Does Cloudbet do KYC and have you dealt with them before?

My seattle future bit it.  I'm riding on the tennessee bandwagon right now.  Who would have predicted the titans had a shit to go to the superbowl 1 month ago.  I'd like to see them win but man, KC in kc is gonna be tough.  Imagine that road to the superbowl, new england away, baltimore away and kc away lol.

Yeah, KC is tough I'm not sure at all on this, actually I have no clue this week except I would think GB/SF should be close enough to play the spread and I think KC will either barely lose or win by a landslide and probably the latter but who the fuck knows right now?

NEW POLL

Same premise as the old poll...

Damn, its been a lot of upsets so far this post season. My guess is as good as anybody's, but the Titans have me hooked so I'm gonna go with them this week (to beat the spread).

The bookies would tell us we are having a SF vs. KC Super Bowl this year. But as we've seen, any g.d. thing can happen! I would not at all be surprised if we ended up having a Green Bay vs. Tennessee Super Bowl.

What do you guys think?

I agree as i explained above but I'm not hooked on the titans it could be a serious trap game but the odds are good for a all the way prop bet I think.

My guess is GB with the spread is the safest bet so that what I'll vote nut I really have ZERO clue. Grin

I swear every time there is a Titans game up on TV they would pull some crazy high-school highlight reels of Derrick Henry playing vs little boys.
So i looked up to find his stats, avgs etc back in school, well numbers don't lie... Cheesy

I haven't voted yet nor made any predictions but i have a weird feeling we will see Mike Vrabel and 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh in the Superbowl, both dudes look super intense on the sidelines, it would be a treat.

Bill O'Brien is receiving a lot of criticism for that play, and while people are right in their criticism I think he had a point, once you see what happened in the game it is understandable he wanted to go for it.

I agree, it was a tactical move that backfired, unfortunately.  If it had worked, the Texans would have kept the momentum on their side, kept the crowd quite, and we very well might have had a completely different outcome to that game.  One play going your way can indeed have such an affect.

All the Monday Morning Quarterbacking reminded me of the Super Bowl that Seattle lost to the Pats; Pete Carroll called a pass play on third (or was it fourth?) and goal from the 1 yard line, and it failed.  Every body jumped down his throat for calling a pass play in that situation, and gave him shit for months because of it.  Ironically Seattle was in the same situation yesterday, and did the same thing.  This time it worked, and no body is even mentioning it.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
Another wild weekend of NFL playoff football.  How the Texans blew that 24 point lead I'll never understand.  How you call a fake punt at that point in the game is beyond me.
Bill O'Brien is receiving a lot of criticism for that play, and while people are right in their criticism I think he had a point, once you see what happened in the game it is understandable he wanted to go for it.

KC is a very explosive team and everything went wrong for them in that first quarter and they were down 0-24, but things began to change, with the kick return, the KC TD and the stop the defense got, Bill O'Brien felt the tide was changing and he wanted to make sure to keep the game under control and to give absolute no chance for a KC comeback, he was aggressive and went for it, without a doubt that was the most critical play of the game, if Houston got the first down all of that momentum will most likely evaporate and if they scored then from that moment on they will just need to kill the clock and contain KC a little bit just like Tennessee did to Baltimore.

But we know what happened, they failed and KC got a short field and the momentum completely shifted in KC favour and never let it go, it was a risky bet no doubt but that is why they are there.

I'm going to miss this thread when the season's over. Gonna have to still crank out 5 posts a week in the gambling section somehow without it.  Cry
The NFL is active all year, the scouting combine begins at February 24, free agency opens at March 18, the draft will take place at April 23-25, and the preseason starts on August I think, it is not the same but it is enough to maintain us entertained until the new season is ready to begin.

For today's divisional matches I got the 49ers and the Titans to cover. The Vikings' playoff run should stop here I know they just took out one of the best team but it feels like beating another team (and with one of the best offense) is just too much. With the spread being -7 I like the chances of 49ers at home and riding the home team trend since in all of their head to head results the road team hasn't won.

On the Titans' and Ravens game, I don't see the Titans winning this but I expect a closer result since the previous matches haven't reached the double digits. Also this was my vote on the poll.

Nice call have my last +sM

Me two, I've really enjoyed this thread maybe next year we should have a Fantasy league as well. Bitsler is stopping its campaign so I can finally put my hat on for a while and I never really cared too much about hitting a number to make the cut. I missed a few weeks for lack of posts. There probably should be a rule to not force minimum amounts of posts for campaigns as that adds to the noise ratio.

I've gotta say for my first and only sig campaign Bitsler was a perfect choice and i don't regret it for a second. Baryom is a top notch site owner and i highly recommend it for honesty and Integrity. He even sent me a payment that I did not know i accidentally had over sent to him. He's a stand up honest person. If bitsler takes sports bets in the future i will be betting there for sure, i still haven't found a place that I trust.
