UFC 278 results for my picks pretty much I was saddened by my choice and prediction didn't go so well but still, I am pretty amazed by the results,

Kamaru Usman VS Leon Edwards ROUND 5 KO/TKO - LOST

Leon Edwards indeed has taken the fight to Kamaru Usman that was one astonishing fight I never thought that the Nigerian Nightmare would have a hard time-fighting Edwards, those unexpected leg trips and takedown transition have proven that Leon Edwards really is something, and those kicks are the new meta in the UFC this is proven by Marlon Vera, Rose Namajunas, Umar Nurmagomedov, and now Leon Edwards, but on the 2nd round that poke again, just like what happened on the Belal Muhammad fight, but that 2nd round was for Usman, it was really a crazy fight and on the 5th round I think Leon Edwards was conditioning a kick to the body and then he delivers a left punch the kick was also approaching that was undetected by Usman, if Leon Edwards doesn't KO'ed Usman here Kamaru Usman will win this via Decision because of the Scorecards all judges scored Round 1 for Edwards while Round 2 to 4 was Scored for Usman, and after that fight Leon Edwards phone call his family about his victory, and was crying here is the VIDEO

Paulo Costa VS Luke Rockhold ROUND 3 DECISION - WIN

Paolo Costa was rocking aggressive toward Rockhold and also showboating to kick on the body, and when the fight progresses both fighters were bloodied and tired at the same time, it was a war for Costa VS Rockhold but at the 2nd round you can now see Rockhold running from Costa because of fatigue, and on the ground, you can see Rockhold just rub his blood on the face of Paulo Costa, you can say that Costa really returned,

José Aldo VS Merab Dvalishvili ROUND 3 DECISION - LOST

Merab Dvalishvili was fast to his feet, and those take-down attempts were really speedy but Aldo's takedown defense was great, and he surely checked those take-down attempts well, Dvalishvili really has the speed to be on far with Aldo's standup at 1st Merab Dvalishvili was just letting Aldo do his thing and maybe those takedown attempts was just to condition Aldo to put his guard down, I really never expected Aldo to lose here, but Dvalishvili really has set up something for his strike to enter Aldo's defense,

Marcin Tybura VS Alexandr Romanov ROUND 3 DECISION - LOST

I don't really know what I have watched but it was really a slow start for these two to settle a fight, or I am just bored about it, Romanov really had the power to carry and drop Tybura down, but surely Tybura out strike him that led to a decision win, but I was really bored while watching the fight,

I had a feeling that Edwards would upset Nigerian nightmare this night. First the odds (4 on Edwards) looked very high to me. Come on, top2 fighter of division and only 4. Then I had a feeling that kicks are the solution against Usman. And Edwards knows how and when to throw them. Punches are dangerous against Usman, wrestling is also a no. Edwards is left with kicks. But I saw him winning by point after gaining them from successful kick. Turned out that one of his kicks was more successful than others Cheesy

But I see a lot of troubles in defending this belt. Covington - hello wrestling and unlimited gas tank. Chimaev - I better wish Edwards a lot of luck.

We gonna see new fighter in pound-for-pound soon. Doubt that this is gonna be Edwards, as he is not in a list. Volkanovski on top1 ? Lol.

What makes it even more funny, Leon Edwards is not a knockout artist. Only one knockout in 14 UFC fights. And he knocks out best p4p fighter. Double lol. Usman has never been knockout in his career - gets KOed by a guy who does not have knocking power and usually wins by decision. Triple lol.

I just saw the results. I picked the right winners but still lost the bet Grin

I had Costa winning by KO because I thought he'll connect one punch to Rockhold's glass chin and end it.
Taking on Edwards against Usman was already risky but I went further by betting on winning by decision.

No comment on their performance since I didn't watch and yet to see the replay.

edit: WOW! Edward's comeback is up there with Anderson choking Chael and Jiri submitting Glover.

I think Usman kinda played safe towards the end of round 5 knowing he's already ahead on points and it cost him dearly. Anyway, it's a no brainer that there will be a trilogy after what happened. Dana already said yes to it and probably going to take place at Wembley.

Happy retirement to Rockhold. At least he's going to go out with high respect from fans after that war.

Told you guys. Those kicks will be the weapon. Nate knew it, now Usman knew it too.
These critics are really hurting a lot of players and here are their responses now.
NBA Champion Steph Curry: What are they going to say now?
New UFC Welterweight Champion Leon "Rocky: Edwards: Look at me now!
Both humble sportsmen had been attacked by words and criticized and yet they proved something.

That Round 1 I thought Edwards can win it early, but he failed at doing the guillotine choke.
2,3,4 were all Usman and so does 5 if it ended in less than 2 minutes.
Congratulations on our new champion.

Wow.. I didn’t see this coming. Usman was winning all the rounds until the well-hidden kick. This is reminiscent of what dropped Weili in the first seven seconds of her fight. MMA is a sport of many upsets. That is exactly why I prefer it to boxing which is more linear with expectations. The short fight times add to the enjoyment.Usman beat him silly but made the mistake of relaxing too soon...with just about a minute to the end of the fight. Usman will beats him in a rematch.

Usman vs Edwards i have no doubt that Usman will win again, but I expect to see good performance from both fighters.
Good display from both fighters, but Usman who you expected to win as well as most of us judging from his running record was KO'd at the final minute with a kick to the head from Edwards. As a Nigerian, it has been a really disappointing weekend in both the UFC as Kamaru has lost likewise AJ in boxing. Kamaru will have a rematch, and I hope he will not underestimate Edwards again because it looked like he was overconfident that he was going to win and he let his guard down in the final minutes and that got him knocked out in a fight that looked like he was really going to win...It takes a lot to come back and win from a KO, but Kamaru Usman has what it takes. Good luck to him in the future, Congratulations to Edwards, the new welterweight champion at UFC 278, that his head kick that KO'd the champ Usman will surely not be forgotten in a hurry.

Usman didn't see  it coming though. Cerrone does this kind of headkick after a jab which is very successful many times in his career. The kick was approaching as Usman tried block the jab. He closed his eyes, see it on the replay.

His 1st round loss got Usman distracted also in the first round when he was about to be choked.  Really a kind of loss you wouldn't expect.

Rockhold connected that made Costa stun but was never enough. Between the 2, Costa is just  healthier but we can see they both tired. Its a bloody fight. Rockhold may probably get the decision win if he just didn't dive for takedown in the 3rd round which seem to be a mistake.

These cards are full of UD, a KO to be remembered in Usman vs Edwards.

edit: And Usman  is done.  Grin Oh no.

Agreed on Luke Rockhold, however, I choose him for another type of reason. Paulo Costa might show up here in very good form but everyone might be underestimating Luke Rockhold's takedown and overestimates Costa's defense for this. Rockhold is very much aware that his chin has left his body hehehe. He will wrestle and hold down Costa for 3 rounds and plan to win this through a decision.

@YuginKadoya. I also agree on the King of Rio Aldo hehehe. Another former champion who is underestimated for this event.

Jose Aldo has good stand-up so I don't really know why they are preferring Merab Dvalishvili and is the favorite to win, only notable fight that he had was Marlon Moraes that does have a good record now and has 2 consecutive losses when he fought it, now Moraes has 4 consecutive losses and Cody Stamann and who is Stamann I don't know either, and while Aldo has fought great fighters in the UFC now, and Jose Aldo is not that older as well, I think his age seems right, both guys last fights was on 2021, So I think Aldo can still win this fight,

^  You're goddamn right about Rockhold not having a chin anymore.  I think it's gonna be a quick fight with Costa getting Rockhold starched in R1.  I mean he hasn't fought in the cage in three years, he's 37 years old and his last three losses ended with him getting KO'd or TKO'd.  Too much red flags.  The under 1.5 rounds looks good here imho.

Here's the ceremonial weigh ins with the face offs.

I now regret picking Loosa over Fletcher for my lottery ticket.  Fletcher is yuuuge.  It's gonna be a tough one for Loosa.

And Paulo Costa has good takedown defense Luke Rockhold will have a hard time getting Costa submitted like when he fight Yoel Romero he showcase good takedown defense that doesn't let Romero do a thing to him, and now Yoel Romero is out of option, rather take the punishment on Costa's punches, so they have a punching match, I think Luke Rockhold will surely lose any option when Costa neutralize his takedowns, and because Rockhold doesn't have a good chin, it is bye bye for him if Costa still has that power punch,

This card looks amazing, with main event Usman vs Edwards i have no doubt that Usman will win again, but I expect to see good performance from both fighters.
Paulo Costa is back in octagon I would enjoy to see his ass kicked again by anyone, so my pick goes for Rockhold to win.
I am leaning towards legendary Jose Aldo against Dvalishvili, I think he is going to win but it's not going to be easy.

I really thought it was on Saturday, I was really confused because it is now Sunday in our country, but yeah it is only Saturday in the USA, I thought they have adjust the time of the fight, but I then realize that there are different timezone, it is like my mind just suddenly not function from thinking the fight was on PST, it was a short mind lag  Cheesy

Well, we got the same pick for Kamaru Usman and Jose Aldo but my pick was Paulo Costa, I surely want to see him get kicked on the Light Heavyweight decision but against Luke Rockhold, I am pretty doubtful, but if a determined Paulo Costa could show up Rockhold will surely have no options at all,

- Usman
- Aldo
- Amir Albazi
- Luke Rockhold

Luke being my most uncertain, depends what type of Costa turns up on the night.

My picks for the UFC 278: Usman vs. Edwards 2

Kamaru Usman VS Leon Edwards

Stake odds for this fight were 1.30 for Usman while 4.00 for Edwards, In their 1st fight, it seems that both were not very well-known many thought that this is just their 1st match, but even though they have fought 1 another 1 this is their real 1st match, Kamaru Usman is a new guy from once Edwards has faced before, he surely got an extremely good ground game now, while Leon Edwards still has the same game on the stand-up, but very well rounded, but pretty much after his fight with Usman his winning was on a slow pace, while Usman was on high altitude winning, I could add up Kamaru Usman's boxing he got great progress on his boxing now and it is all technically well executed, I think Usman got an advantage on boxing, and in the ground, while Edwards has good reach with those kicks but for me, Kamaru Usman will win this, but it is not a profitable bet so I am staying away from betting,

Paulo Costa VS Luke Rockhold

Stake odds for this fight were 1.28 for Costa while 4.20 for Rockhold, Paolo Costa on the weigh-ins looks massive, and I think he is pretty much determined in winning now that he is in the Light Heavyweight division, and I think after his fight with Alex Pereira, Israel Adesanya should try again this division, while I think Rockhold has some reach and height advantage if he can utilize that he can surely win over Costa that doesn't have a ground game, but I think Paulo Costa will win this, I just got that gut feeling that he will, so I will stay away from betting aswell,

José Aldo VS Merab Dvalishvili

Stake odds for this fight were 2.21 for Aldo while 1.76 for Dvalishvili, this seems like a close match, in my opinion, Merab with his few fights than Aldo but has some interesting records and Dvalishvili is pretty good at winning with Decision taking it safely while Aldo has rocked 16 KO wins in his career, and have fought know fighters in the UFC, Aldo is not the favorite in this fight so I might go and bet for him, this time,

Marcin Tybura VS Alexandr Romanov

Stake odds for this fight were 4.00 on Tybura while 1.30 for Romanov, Marcin Tybura has some notable fights in his career, his fight with Derrick Lewis, Augusto Sakai, and Alexander Volkov was all well-known fighters but it was all lost, if he regained his confidence in this fight then that is going to give him confidence in getting back up, but Romanov has shown power with his striking finish the fight in 1 round or 2, this could devastate Tybura when he got caught up by it, so I think Alexandr Romanov will win this, but staying away from betting aswell,

Right, early leans:
- Usman
- Aldo
- Amir Albazi
- Luke Rockhold

Luke being my most uncertain, depends what type of Costa turns up on the night.

I think he was talking about an assault on Covington after the a loss. He has punched Covington twice outside of a restaurant. As I remember Covington suffered a brain injury and a broken tooth due to that. At first Masvidal was found not guilty, but right now he is facing a pre-trial in the end of August 29. Knowing what kind of Covington person is (I really hope he only playing a role of a bad guy all the time) and that war between old friends, he will do his best to make Masvidal life worse.

Ah yeah, I vaguely remember that, I think I dismissed it as post fight hype to maybe setup another fight down the line, didn't realise it was actually real. I'm somewhat disconnected from the drama outside the fighting though, I just turn up on a Saturday, and watch basically.

I have re-watched Usman vs Edwards first fight. Long time ago, when Usman was more wrestler than striker, even then he looked better with his weird punches than Edwards. Edwards is no good at wrestling. But Edwards is good at high kicks and low kicks. Trevor Wittman improved Usmans boxing to new level. The only solution for Edwards to win - kicks, gaining points, running and win by decision. But people dont become champions when working as Nr2 and by points. If Edwards decides to fight in stance, well, we might see some new meme with Usman knocking someone out. Wrestling - I think it will be total dominance by Usman.

Mission impossible for Edwards or we might see a new champ soon? Cheesy

I'm not saying it couldn't happen but it's not likely and Usman is the rightful favorite here.  I mean who are we kidding?  I wouldn't take any risk by betting on Edwards.  But I like that line for the under 4.5 now at 2.26 tho.  I have a really good feeling Usman is gonna starch Edwards.

UFC's live weigh ins start in around 30 mins or so.  Just heard that that Maverick vs Young has been canceled.  Sucks...  I had Maverick high in my lottery ticket.

UFC 278:  Live Weigh In Show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxQ_-lmP30g

Anyway, who are your best bets for the event?

Edit:

Kamaru Usman (170) vs Leon Edwards (170)
Paulo Costa (185.5) vs Luke Rockhold (185.5)
Jose Aldo (136) vs Merab Dvalishvili (136)
Lucie Pudilova (135.5) vs Wu Yanan (136)
Harry Hunsucker (204.5) vs Tyson Pedro (205.5)
Alexandr Romanov (239.5) vs Marcin Tybura (252.5)
Jared Gordon (155.5) vs Leonardo Santos (156)
Luis Saldana (145.5) vs Sean Woodson (146)
A.J. Fletcher (170.5) vs Ange Loosa (170.5)
Amir Albazi (126) vs Francisco Figueiredo (125.5)
Aori Qileng (136) vs Jay Perrin (136)
Victor Altamirano (125) vs Daniel Da Silva (126)

Everybody made weight and everybody looked good except for Leonardo Santos.  He looked tired and had to have a couple of guys help him walk as he got off the stage.  Under 2.5 rounds at 2.13 could be good imho.  Gordon via sub at 11.00 looks tempting.

Those kicks are what made Nate wobble a bit. After that one big leg kick from Edwards, he starts to avoid them which means it's not a joke.
Well, if Edwards also improved his take-down defense then he might just also avoid a wrestling match with Usman but the reactions should be fast because just one take-down might finish the fight.
It will be difficult for him because he needs to stay aggressive and careful, judges will always give the upper hand in scores to the champ if the challenger is not too aggressive.

Btw, do you know that in upcoming Chimaev vs Nate Diaz fight, Jorge Masvidal will be a replacement in case there is something with Nate. I would love to see Chimaev fighting both of them. I see no real danger in both of them for Chimaev. Masvidal probably is going to be more convenient for Chimaev, as his ground skills are lower. Would be a good chance for UFC to get rid of Masvidal Cheesy 3 losses in a row already. Nobody remember his flying knee knockout anymore (except youtube compilations). Has legal issues.

Well, I didn't know that, but thanks for sharing, it seems that Dana White wants to get rid of Jorge Masvidal, but I think Masvidal will surely evade again just like he has always done, he might reason another injury or a medical problem in him to evade the said fight if Nate Diaz can not make the fight, but I think after this fight with Nate Diaz, we can see a Khamzat Chimaev VS Jorge Masvidal next, I remember Khamzat is calling out this two to fight him because this dude is really hungry for fights, and if these two won't post a threat to Khamzat Chimaev Dana White better make it a 2 Versus 1 fight, instead just to be fair for both Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal,

Pretty much I am very excited for the UFC 279: Chimaev vs. Diaz fight I have searched which fight will take place on it and noteworthy to watch that I have spotted was the Johnny Walker VS Ion Cutelaba, and a couple of fighting kittens that I have spotted, and for me, that will be Norma Dumont and Melissa Martinez,

While the Aljamain Sterling vs. T.J. Dillashaw was rescheduled

Be careful now...  Leon Edward doesn't really have an iron cast chin.  Remember that Nate Diaz wobbled him in the fifth round and could have finished him if Diaz wasn't goofing around.  I'm not saying Edward's doesn't have a chance, he does but it's not likely.

I remember that fight. Edwards was destroying Nate during whole fight, and like he said, the became so boring, so he has lost concentration and failed to block Nates 1-2 combo and ate it completely. But Edwards recovered quickly and there were no chance Nate would win that fight just due to that one situation.

Even if Edwards win, Usman will still be remembered as a better champ. If Edwards would be a champ, I think can be easily beaten by someone like Masvidal or Covington, someone that can go into the head and break mentally.

Edwards recovered because Nate Diaz doesn't hit that hard.  Usman could hit really hard and has improved his boxing by a lot since training with Trevor Whitman.  I think the under 4.5 at 2.26 has some value.  That's 4.5 rounds of Usman looking to starch Edwards.  And Usman did show he could be wobbled too in the match vs Burns.
