^  What did everybody expect?  Dvalishvili is a cardio machine with a cast iron chin, volume, and with relentless TD attempts...

More volume form O'Malley, lots of combos, nicely timed counters, utilising reach advantage. I dunno.

Wtf Sandhagen?  He just lost to Umar Nurmagomedov.  Nurmagomedov is next for sure.  That'll be a great match imho.

I was talking about the next opponent for O'Malley, not for Dvalishvili.
Nurmagomedov is probably next for the title shot, but UFC will be desperate for Sean's rebound from a loss to keep his hype going, and Sandhagen looks like a good option.

So the UFC 306 has ended. Before we start discussing the fights more detailed, look on the performance in general. Only 1 tko and 1 submission in whole event. Some posts above it was said that it is business vs business between ufc and boxing. So how and average event viewer would evaluate this event, if there would be almost no finishes? For me: I have seen good and excellent fights yesterday. Average Joe probably got unsatisfied, especially with such ticket cost.

Not sure how it did vs Canelo's event if we're talking about money but I'm damn pretty sure that UFC 306 turned out to be a waaay better event than Canelo's event.  Lol.  Like way waaay better.  I hope we see the UFC go back to the Sphere for some of its bigger events.

At first I was kinda disappointed as it kinds sucked.  You could see the beams in the arena, the lights were too bright and where was the visuals?  But then the main card started...  Everybody was blown away.  It was sooo good.

And yeah, some of the matches ended up via decision but man, some of them were great fights...  Ribovics vs Zellhuber FOTN imho.

UFC 306:  Match Results

I haven't seen the whole event and only woke up to see the results and the main event's highlights.
I have to say, I did not expect Merab to be this dominating, I honestly thought Sean was the favourite, but he just didn't deliver with his striking.
See the stats in the fight card, O/Malley only landed 49 strikes, while Merab 214, that's over 4 times more. I expected to see the opposite.

This is bad for the UFC, as O'Malley was very marketable, but he lost in such a fashion that he doesn't really deserve a rematch or another title shot anytime soon.
He had a lot of options, including a potential super-fight with Topuria (if he was to defeat Holloway) but this is probably off the table right now.
I sense we might see him fighting Sandhagen next, but maybe moving up to the featherweight is not a bad idea.

Almost time for things to start heating up. Hope everyone has a safe and fun evening of UFC watching for this historic event. Wish there was a bigger headliner but I’m rolling with Suga for an O’Malley smackdown. I hope tonight has some highlights to remember and the Sphere isn’t the only star of the evening.

Israel Adesanya Drops Out Of UFC Pound-For-Pound Rankings For First Time Since 2019
https://www.sportscasting.com/uk/news/israel-adesanya-drops-out-of-ufc-pound-for-pound-rankings-for-first-time-since-2019/
This was expected to happen after he lost last fight against Dricus Du Plessis, and I think Adesanya era is over.
Other fighters figured out his style and found a way to beat him and make him look weak in octagon.
UFC and Dana White are going to try to milk him for money until the end with more fights against weaker fighters, but I dont think he is going to be UFC champion again.

^  Not sure about all the guys from Mexico winning their respective matches.  There are some sketchy ones in there...  Like Torres vs Bahamondes, Rodriguez vs Osbourne, Ortega vs Lopes and even Grasso vs Shev.  But yeah, with the Rodriguez vs Osbourne one I feel like if Osbourne doesn't get KO'd and weathers at the first couple of rounds, Rodriguez could gas out and get finished.  The pick is Rodriguez for my degen parlay but yeah sketchy...

Anyway here are the weigh results and replays.  Was kinda disappointed that the ceremonial weigh ins was outside not inside.  Can't wait to see what it looks like from the inside.

Champ Sean O’Malley (135) vs Merab Dvalishvili (134)
Champ Alexa Grasso (124) vs Valentina Shevchenko (125)
Diego Lopes (146) vs Brian Ortega (146)
Esteban Ribovics (155) vs Daniel Zellhuber (155)
Ode Osbourne (125) vs Ronaldo Rodriguez (125)
Irene Aldana (136) vs Norma Dumont (136)
Ignacio Bahamondes (156) vs Manuel Torres (156)
Yazmin Jauregui (115) vs Ketlen Souza (115)
Edgar Chairez (125.5) vs Joshua Van (125.5)
Aori Qileng (136) vs Raul Rosas Jr. (136)

So it turns out that this is another UFC vs boxing war? How simple. And stupid. Imho these are two different audiences, and fighting for their purse isnt smart. A true boxing fan will never turn his tv channel to watch UFC fight. Simply because boxing is a gentlemen fight and it isnt fair to "hit grounded opponent". The same as UFC fan most likely will see boxing as boring, because of limited variety of strikes.

I very much disagree if everyone has assumed that this is a UFC vs. boxing war. This is a business vs. business war and the winner might be the promotion of Al Haymon on Canelo's fight if the earnings of each on tickets and payperviews are compared hehehe. The UFC can also be victorious because of the Sphere. The fans might be very excited on this and how this will appear inside and on the screen. However, if Canelo's opponent is David Benavidez, I am quite certain the UFC will lose on business vs. business for the Mexican Independence day weekend.

I predict all of the Mexicans in UFC 306 will be victorious. According to uncle Dana, this is his love letter for the people of Mexico.

I just watched the replay of the pre fight press conference.  It was mostly just ok.  Was expecting more but animosity can't be forced if the fighters are not in the mood.  There was one with that lazy boy guy and Osbourne tho.  Lol.  I'm betting on the lazy boy guy if I'm betting that match but Osbourne is a live dog imho.

Israel Adesanya Drops Out Of UFC Pound-For-Pound Rankings For First Time Since 2019
https://www.sportscasting.com/uk/news/israel-adesanya-drops-out-of-ufc-pound-for-pound-rankings-for-first-time-since-2019/

So they dropped Izzy out of the pound-for-pound ranking in favour of Aljamain Sterling. I've no idea what are the criteria for getting to that ranking, but I'd say Izzy is still more deserving to be there than Aljo. But that's just my opinion.

He's still ranked number 2 contender in the Middleweight ranking, no changes here.

The 'criteria' is actually a voting panel composed of MMA journos from different networks, publications, channels or whatever and evaluate the ranking based on I don't know what they're looking at.  Cheesy Cheesy  So yeah...  If people are gonna blame the UFC again if their favorite fighter didn't make the cut, just stop.  Lol.  Blame the journos.  It's the reason why Dana White is all red whenever he argues with the journos that Jon Jones is his P4P top 1 in press conferences.  It's hilarious...

Here's a vid you guys might like.

lol Aljo win by KO = 3 yet he ranked the 15th P4P. Maybe because he was once a champ. And maybe Izzy really did lose a lot of his charisma after his last fight and got into a road rage incident. Grin

There are a lot of guys whos presence in p4p ranking is questionable Cheesy Like why there is still Volkanovski ? His record last years is similar to Izzy. 1 win and 3 losses. Oliveira isnt performing well lately. Or why Arman Tsarukyan is not in the list. But actually no one understand how p4p ranking is formed. It would be logical to put a champion and #1 of each division. But we have a total mix there.

In UFC 306 we will see the main fight in the title fight that brings together the title holder Sean O'Malley against the challenger Merab Dvalishvili and this is fight that Sean O'Malley may still be able to win to retain the Batam class title.
This is his second fight in an attempt to defend the title after he got it by defeating Aljamain Sterling, in the fight Sean O'Malley against Merab Dvalishvili also still shows that Sean O'Malley is the favorite.
For the odds show Sean O'Malley with @ 1.78 and Merab Dvalishvili @ 2.14 and this is still decent odds if choose Sean O'Malley.

On the other hand there are some discussions that state that in this title defense fight Sean O'Malley really managed to win then he has the opportunity to meet Umar Nurmagomedov who will be the next challenger.
If all this really happens and Sean O'Malley fights Umar Nurmagomedov then it would be huge fight in the UFC.

I agree with your opinion. While I do think that Izzy hasn’t been the same since being beaten by his nemesis in their first fight in the UFC, he still seems more deserving than Aljamain Sterling. I think both are on their way down though so it won’t matter much for too long. Izzy unfortunately seems to have gotten the yips. His issues are mental for sure.

Not sure what his goal but because the guy comes from an abundantly rich country that wants to make all kinds of fights possible in their country, he surely wants to spread his name all over combat sports. He may really be running the show one day, taking over boxing and MMA.

Put Mike Tyson in boxing and I'll watch it 24/7. I think that sometimes it's certain athletes that make us watch sports and to be honest, that happens very often in my case. For example, I started watching football because of the hype that was around Messi and oh my, what a brilliant decision that was. I started watching UFC because of Conor McGregor too Cheesy I never was his fan but he was so widely spoken that I watched one of his fight and then I liked it, then I liked athletes like Dustin Poirier, Tony Ferguson and so on.

Started watching UFC/MMA because one day YouTube showed brutal KO compilation in recommendations Cheesy Have been watching it probably since 2009. Even though at that time boxing also had KO compilations, all those cuts, broken bones, blood and ability to use everything (that time I have watches Pride and Valetudo, where you can soccer kick or used head to headbutt) caught my attention more. From time to time I watch some football goal compilation and all I can say is WOW, but that never made watch 90+ min of guys kicking one ball, running and walking Cheesy

Enough of this. Lets get back to UFC 306. I know its not Friday yet (but some say that Wednesday is a little Friday), but here is something interesting. Dana White offers $25,000 to first person to find ‘Easter eggs’ in Sphere at UFC 306. I dont get it correctly probably, but I understand that they have organized a special event or show (or I dont know) during UFC event that already contains show elements Cheesy Otherwise how come they show film elements and people hunt and try to solve that. I dont get it how to get those 25 grands Cheesy

Ladies and gentlemen - meet the next president of Ireland:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/mma/article-13817591/Conor-McGregor-ireland-president.html

McGregor has hinted before he would run for president one day and 7h ago he confirmed his plans on X:
https://twitter.com/TheNotoriousMMA/status/1831676863334273494

Quote
As President I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it. So as i said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses, and on and on and on! These charlatans in their positions of power would be summoned to answer to the people of Ireland and I would have it done by day end. Or I would be left with no choice but to dissolve the Dáil entirely. Stop the train until. The people of Ireland deserve the answers they seek. Point blank. This would be my power as President. I know very well. Ireland needs an active President employed wholly by the people of Ireland. It is me. I am the only logical choice. 2025 is upcoming…

Is he serious or trolling? Who knows...
Only god knows but as crazy as he is, I think that he really plans to run for President of Ireland. He is a celebrity, has a huge fanbase, especially in Ireland and why not? But I don't like the idea of athletes in politics. They are athletes that train their body, not their mind. They aren't as smart as those who dedicate their life to work that requires high mental workload.

So it turns out that this is another UFC vs boxing war? How simple. And stupid. Imho these are two different audiences, and fighting for their purse isnt smart. Ladies and gentlemen - meet the next president of Ireland
People in power will never allow McGregor to become a president of Ireland, and I am not sure people should trust him when everyone knows about his connection with Irish mafia.
And in case they allow him to win, that means he is just another controlled player of the system.
He was to scared to say the full truth about some things happening in last few years, and I remember him posting and than deleting posts on X.
His UFC carrier is going to be finished if he decides to go fully into politics.

I very much agree. President is a big ambition for Conor hehehe. He might win if he will run for mayor of Dublin, however. The Irish mafia can certainly help him on this.

@cabron. It also appears that Alalshikh is the sponsor of UFC 306 heheheheh. Did you hear what he said about Canelo's fight on September 14? He said we will eat him.

Turki Alalshikh is sponsoring the UFC 306 event on September 14th at the Sphere in Las Vegas, which will be held on the same night as Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena. Canelo won’t be happy to hear Turki plans to sponsor the UFC 306 event, which would stymie his scheduled event on the same night.

Turki’s Bold Prediction: “We Will Eat Him” Turki told ESPN that his sponsored UFC 306 event on September 14th will “eat” Canelo’s fight card on the same night against Berlanga.

Read in full https://www.boxingnews24.com/2024/07/turki-alalshikhs-ufc-306-a-direct-challenge-to-canelo-alvarez-on-september-14th/

Dont think that people would be ready to buy both translations, and forcing them to buy PPV to watch Rosas, might work and make people not spending on Canelo fight. Dunno... Weird card.

You might have forgotten that the preliminary fights are not included in payperview heheh.
