I strong'y disagree with your opinion. I'm not blaming Real Madrid, but their abysmall performance has nothing to do with the new format of UCL. I think you forgot that how many players of Real Madrid absences due to the injured. Their injury list is long. They missed Militao, Carvajal, Alaba, and even Courtois. Those guys were important players in the starting lineup.
I don't like how cocky Real Madrid's coach, ancellotti by not bringing a lot of players especially proper defenders to the squad. I know he's one of best coach, but he should totally aware about how thin his squad. He should bring in defenders as good as his starters.
