Really glad hearing the news that football is coming back up again but CL coming back in August is really a good news.

DRAFT CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CALENDAR (according to Marca):

7 August: Juventus-Lyon; Manchester City-Real Madrid (Round of 16 second legs)
8 August: Bayern-Chelsea; Barcelona-Napoli(Round of 16 second legs)
11-12 August: Quarter-finals first leg
14-15 August: Quarter-finals second leg
18-19 August: Semi-finals first leg
21-22 August: Semi-finals second leg
29 August: Final (Istanbul)

Wait what? Finishing all remaining matches in one whole month, that's so interesting! If that really happens, would be the best month in this entire 2020.

Yeah would be an entertaining month. Whole month CL action  Cheesy

I read somewhere that UEFA were very eager to start the next CL season on schedule and to do that they had to finish the current within August. It falls right into slot and doesn't seems much hectic looking at the draft calender.

yeah, look like that, but bear in mind that after finishing this season, and start another one (if everything stay the same, without break), CL will finish in August, and new season start in September, than you will have EURO 2020 after that, so first longer break for best football players will be in 2022, not so good for injuries
never mind, cant wait to see football on TV

Or they can just remove all of their pre-season tournaments such as ICC or that premier league asia or whatever at least until World Cup 2022 for the players fatigue's sake.

Not good at all,,, I think it will be different next season shorter games and everything, unless they cancel one or two tournaments, so football returns to normal without doing anything stupid. What do you think? Should we sacrifice? I think so.

The reason you mentioned look acceptable, there will be more hard for players to play in several league in a week since current stage still not finished yet. Maybe if UCL want to back as normal conditions, they need to change current season. Mostly, league starting on august, because club need to finish 2019/20 season, new season starting on october or after last match from primary league (serie-A, EPL, La Liga etc) but it will change everything including transfer season.

Well yeah, starting the new season immediately after the current season end sounds reasonable. The players are being in long break right now so no need for them to take another break after end of the season.

Another confirmation that UEFA Champions League will start soon, in August, from Marca: https://www.marca.com/en/football/international-football/2020/05/09/5eb7152f22601d29218b45c8.html
Lyon will play with Juve in Turin on August 7.
Hopefully, nothing will change until then  Grin
Really, can't wait to see CL again on TV, what about you?

UEFA will have to change the schedule for next season because of the current prolonged season. It is the best to see both national leagues (top at least) and Champions League + Europa League finish their current season. The next season will be easier to handle despite of some later beginning days. Everything over the globe has been changed because of the pandemic so it is acceptable to see normality of leagues changed too. After the end of next season, I hope we will see normal ones again.

So, there is a possibility that there will be no UCL next season. If the current season is forced to be done, let's say, on October, there will be no break for players since the competition for next season must be prepared.

I think the clearest choice right now for UEFA is to let the leagues handle this and not themselves. Just tell the leagues that whoever they want to send they can send them, with the exception of teams that are not allowed (like Manchester City) and just continue next year with the teams leagues send.

Some leagues will continue to play, Bundesliga is the most known one that will definitely play, Turkish league will start on 14th I think, and I am sure other leagues will decide on a day as well, those leagues will eventually finish the leagues and send the right ones. Some leagues however just purely cancelled the season all together, I suppose those could just send either teams they want or just according to last positions when this happened, would be just for one year anyway.

According to RMC spots Juventus-Lyon will be played in Turin on 08-08-2020.

Juventus can maybe play the rest of the serieA and they will be trained but what about Lyon where the LigueA is deleted and they will probably not training for another 2 months?

Can a separate Champions League match take place if the other Champions League clubs are closed for games?
Although it may be possible to arrange matches without fans in the stadiums...
But in my opinion, the situation with the pandemic is not clear yet, and it is too early to talk about the opening of the league...
This and all other time dates are not final and most likely will still change many times, so do not currently take this as a basis.

It’s not ideal for Lyon but they’re not going to refuse to play are they. The CL is the trophy everybody wants to win, they’ll just have to try & be in the best possible shape.

Nobody will ever refuse to play. These competitions were in a big danger of being called off,,, I cannot imagine anyone who is into football who wants to not play, even though health and all that is important. They are people social distancing now just to buy alcohol in the streets. If they make it safely, why not football. They just need to take all the necessary precautions.

Iirc it's not official announcement yet, just a result of meeting they held with all of club representatives yesterday. It might change if Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga and other leagues that decide to continue the competition don't run well.

Thank you for the explanation, it was clear now. So, how about next season competitions, if all clubs can't continue, how to choose the clubs for uefa champions 2020/2021 participants? it will be chosen by federation or will use last league table?

I'm not sure, but like what I mentioned in my previous post in the last page, perhaps UEFA will be more focused on preparing Euro 2021. So, there is a possibility that there will be no UCL next season. If the current season is forced to be done, let's say, on October, there will be no break for players since the competition for next season must be prepared. It would be bad for the players healthy, especially Premier League players with 3 domestic competitions there (Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup) and their insane Boxing Day. Regarding who gonna participate in the next season tournament, the leagues that have been stopped already like Eredivisie and Ligue 1 surely have the fixed participants based on the tournament table. The rest teams depends on how their domestic league run.

If it is not discussed earlier it will be more difficult to arrange it. Therefore, in every competition officials, now continue to have discussions to find the best solution or open matches again, the Bundesliga, the league of league, LaLiga have been discussed before and now the champions league where this most prestigious game will certainly be more awaited because the great team will start the match again, even without the audience I think everyone already knows that the pandemic will not have any spectators.

I presume if the domestic leagues can’t finish then the teams who are currently occupying the CL spaces will compete in next seasons CL.

Nobody can answer that question! Players and clubs wish to play and earn money, but new regulations are
holding them. Everything depends on governments and new regulations, governments says all depends from
health organizations and their expert opinion what and how to do things in the future.
There will be changes, just nobody knows yet what exactly. There are clues and suggestions what we can
expect, but as Jayce said nothing is official yet, and probably will not be for some time.

Since UCL based from top rank clubs from last season, i think all of the will not refuse any continuation of UCL. All club's don't have enough preparation for this stage, so every club must work hard on the current stage.

Last information from UEFA Websites:

TBC
Round of 16, second leg
Quarter-final and semi-final draws, Nyon
Quarter-finals, first leg
Quarter-finals, second leg
Semi-finals, first leg
Semi-finals, second leg
Final – Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadı, Istanbul

From this site, still no information if UCL will be back in August

I don’t think they will refuse. It is a golden opportunity for Lyon as they come in this game with one goal advantage from winning the first leg.Although they play against Juventus none of the teams have really done some serious training yet and if they go to the game without appropriate training Lyon may as well pass the turn although I highly doubt this.
