nk that Real Madrid will play no worse than before in the Champions League after losing to Barcelona in La Liga. It happens to all teams and often means nothing. I disagree about Chelsea though, Tuchel is a good coach and knows how to play. By the way last year a lot of people also said Real Madrid should win but they failed. This year the situation is the same and the outcome can be unpredictable.
It's hard to easily confirm that Real Madrid is easy to lose in a row. Just because they lost yesterday to Barcelona, it may not completely be a continuous defeat. You only see from one game, not from a few games achieved by Madrid. So it would be very skeptical to quickly conclude regarding the future of Real Madrid, even though the game has not started with Chelsea yet. The last 16 is still going on and there are still a lot of unexpected things that will continue to happen.

Look at what the English teams are doing. Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea are all in the champions league and at the same time are topping the English premier league. English clubs are showing a lot of promise in the Uefa champions league.

Fun fact: Spain also now has three clubs in the quarter-finals. But no one pays much attention to this, because apart from Real Madrid, the rest of the teams look like outsiders in their pairs. But this is football and knockout matches, so each team has a chance against each and purely statistically in one of the 4 pairs we should see a big surprise.
Representatives from England are now kings of Europe, it is proven that 3 teams from England have made it to the quarter-finals, it is very likely that 2 representatives from England will advance to the semi-finals, because Man City and Liferpol are facing a team that is below their level, but Chelsea is facing a difficult team. But if Real Madrid plays like they did against Barca, I'm sure Chelsea will win easily. If there's no banzema, it's certain that Real Madrid will be overwhelmed by Chelsea in the quarter-finals. Hopefully, all English teams can qualify for the semi-finals, as happened last year. then.

Not at all discounting the size of the blip -- and full credit to Barca for restoring hope and confidence in their rebuilding campaign spearheaded by Xavi (and dare I say Auba?). But blips are allowed, and sometimes even necessary, if you believe in the philosophies of football that dictate teams need a wakeup call every now and then especially when there's a big cushion in the league lead.

I remember when Liverpool lost 7-frikking-2 to Villa last season and yes, it was humiliating, it broke records and it was a horror show but it was a blip (one of several no doubt, but I note also that was a crazy season without defenders). We've seen big blips from champions this season, Bochum v Bayern for example. Ajax blip over 2 legs (it has to count right?).

You're right of course, Ancelotti shouldn't let his defenders off easy even if he's taken all the blame but I still think they're value odds to bet on against Chelsea.

Actually, you are right. Real Madrid can obviously take things a little easy after getting a big win against PSG and also securing first place in the league title.

They are quite surely going to be the winner of this season's La Liga title. But, it was a great achievement for Barcelona. The next big challenge for Real Madrid is going to be the champions League match against Chelsea. I think Chelsea has a better chance of winning the match but no one should ever count out Real Madrid.

English teams in recent champions league seasons have proven to be forces to reckon with. They are clearly sides that no team in the world would prefer to go against. Manchester City being the most terrific of all, even though they do not have the experience of winning the champions league, their tantalizing style of play under the tactician, Pep Guardiola is a revolutionary style of play that can only be matched by a few in the game. Generally, the three English teams left in the competition have the best coaches in the world and this alone gives them upper hand in the competition.
It is not only in the period of Pep Guardiola that EPL clubs did well in UCL even before his arrival some of these clubs done brilliantly well, clubs like Liverpool when Steven Gerald was still an active player won UCL trophy when they played against AC milan in a final,  while Arsenal narrowly lost to Barcelona in another finals when Arsene Wenger was their manager, in subsequent seasons some EPL clubs are usually knockout in quarter and semifinals, thus English team has quality players and good managers and I am very sure they would continue to dominate Europe in both Europa and UCL competitions, this season three of their clubs had qualify for quarter final.

Good grief, all this clamor about El Clasico somehow making Real Madrid weaker in the quarterfinals  Roll Eyes

In my opinion, the defeat to El classico will not affect the result, but Real Madrid has a distinctive charismatic presence in the champions league and that was how it was proven when playing with PSG in the second leg

Exactly. The result vs. Barca doesn't change anything in the CL. Real has a better chance of progressing than Chelsea because they (Chelsea) are in a slump right now. They're not the same team that dumped them out of the semis last year.

Liverpool and City are lucky to face a relatively easier opponents although ATM might resist a bit. In the semifinal, we will see at least 2 EPL teams, Bayern and either Real Madrid or Chelsea. That particular game is hard to predict. Afterwards, it is a little bit complicated and City will have equal chance to progress or not. It is another opportunity for them to lift the title this season, hopefully they will get it once!

Smart is not enough, there must be skills
For sure Real Madrid will not repeat the mistakes of last season when they met Chelsea and now they meet again of course it will be different from what we imagined, Benzema is currently injured but when it comes to the game I hope it will be fine and so will Chelsea the players for preparation later which wait two more weeks.
I think it's going to be a little different and I'm not sure who's in the lead because both of them have great quality players.
This match will mean a whole lot to both clubs. Real Madrid will want to secure their place in the next round likewise chelsea. But following Real Madrid's loss in the El classico the won't want to take chances of underestimating Chelsea and Chelsea who are good at defensive attack might just go for a single goal and decide to play defensive in the both legs
Of course it will be very meaningful in this match considering Chelsea were the defending champions last season.
In my opinion, the defeat to El classico will not affect the result, but Real Madrid has a distinctive charismatic presence in the champions league and that was how it was proven when playing with PSG in the second leg, now with Chelsea it is a slightly different story but in terms of attack who will be more aggressive and sharp in front of the opponent.

Yes and also, even though Spain or La Liga have three representatives including Madrid, Atletico and Villarreal but at this moment it seems representatives from England or the EPL promise better results. I don't care about Bayern Munich, which is still available in the quarter-finals, because I really believe it looks like the final will bring together teams from England again like the previous season where the final match was Chelsea v Manchester City. But for this season, these three EPL teams are looking very good and even, Chelsea who are having problems in fact Chelsea still looks fine and these three teams from EPL have a big chance to get to the final.
No doubt English teams have the upper hand in this season’s UEFA Champions League, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, who are the reigning Champions league winners are still in the competition. They are still competitive teams from other leagues still in the competition, the likes of Real Madrid from the Spanish la liga and Bayern Munich of the German Bundesliga who pose major threat to the chances of an English team winning it.

^ Come on guys, you really think Real gets distracted for a blip in La Liga? They probably knew they were coming into that game with their weakest side in years against a resurgent Barca. And they would happily have rested Benzema even if he were half-fit, in preparation for Chelsea.

Chelsea are the favourites, and rightly so, but Real have experience and streetsmarts. Way too much of both to be affected by the El Clasico sidequest.
They had same experience but couldn't win over Barcelona.
Repeating the same thing for Chelsea will be very embarrassing as they will be knocked out once more by the same team in two years.
Despite all the happenings, Chelsea are a very focused team and still hitting the hammer on the nail.
Real madrid just got injured at the Bernabeu after being beaten by Barcelona 0-4. Ancelotti will not repeat the same mistake against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter finals, winning the UCL trophy is Real Madrid mission with Ancelotti this season. This is the Champions League, the atmosphere is very different from the domestic league. Real madrid will try to win this match, as well as avenge their defeat last year.
Ancelotti is a champions league veteran and one of the most experienced coach left in the tournament, you will have to give him all the respect he deserves. The result of the El Classico does not really dent their huge chances of claiming their 14th Uefa Champions League trophy because they are still a formidable side and you will expect them to have their talisman, Karim Benzema back for the champions league ties. Notwithstanding, Chelsea will pose a major threat to their quest of winning the trophy, Madrid will have to bring in their “A” game if they are to have a chance at progressing to the next round.

Personally without the El Classico I think Chelsea has more chances of going through Real Madrid in the champions league. If anyone thinks because of the what happened between the Spanish giants that Chelsea is the favorites is wrong. That's not how football works. The game between Chelsea and Real Madrid in my opinion is a different ball game.

@Magicalking Real Madrid ain’t a weak opponent and Chelsea would not be taking any chances by underestimating them, hence I have a strong feeling that it’ll a game with lots of goals in it. Also it’s too early too say which team has an advantage, because if their key player’s get injured then both teams will be vulnerable, hence let’s wait till we get closer to this fixture before considering wagering on either side.

Well, this is not exactly news. English teams are dominating already for quite some time. 2 out of the last 3 years they even won the Champions League. This year the title will go with a pretty high probability to England again. I only see Bayern Munich with a chance to beat them. A final between Bayern and nay of the English teams is probably the best we can hope for this year  Wink

I think that the matches are going to be quite competitive because there is a reason why these teams have qualified this far into the tournament. But, I really don't think there will be many surprises. If anything I think in my opinion Chelsea is going to win the match against Real Madrid but that match could go either way. I don't say Liverpool having any problems and also not Bayern Munich.

I agree with you that the matches will be very competitive, all the teams deserved their place in the top 8! That's why I think there will be at least one surprise! The favorites are still the favorites for a reason, stronger teams with bigger pockets for expensive players, experience in tournament finals, etc! But we must not underestimate Atletico, Benfica and Villarreal! On paper, they are certainly weaker than their opponents, but they have also shown that they can cope with pressure and against those stronger than themselves, so maybe some of them will surprise us all! I wish Atletico to be that one!

And I definitely agree that in the Real vs Chealse game anything can happen, it will be a clash of the titans, every mistake can cost and the team can fall out because of making one! And we'll see who and how many mistakes these teams will make?! I support Cheals in this case, I think they can bring down Real!

no wonder to see it all. because the Premier League is the most competitive league at the moment. how the teams compete fiercely to be at the top. In contrast to other leagues which for decades may be dominated by one or two teams as champions.
Interestingly, there is also a possibility that the final will be filled with representatives from England. will it be interesting, or maybe less effective?
