Portugal actually had a pretty good performance, only since they lost 0-2 to Georgia, Portugal seems to have a deadlock on their front line, and they haven't found a goal at all in their last 3 matches. As we know, Roberto Martínez always chooses Ronaldo to be the starter in all games but it was strange to see Ronaldo not being able to score even just 1 goal (aside from penalty shootout). He is indeed old and he might no longer be as impressive as they used to be but, I don't think that's what made him fail to get a goal.

In my opinion, what prevented Ronaldo from getting goals was that he received very few passes from his teammates. Even when Ronaldo is in a good position to score a goal, his teammates seem reluctant to make an assist.

Portugal gave their all, they have really tried and they should be proud of what they’ve achieved together until this very moment. In football, you can’t win all the time. You try your best and allow luck to decide the rest. The Portuguese team deserve to win that match but unfortunately it wasn’t their day and luck was not by their side.

As for Ronaldo, people can hate on him but without doubt he’s one of the greatest player in history to lace up soccer cleats. His spirit will be a huge loss for Portugal team whenever he chooses to retire from the squad. However, it’s time for Portugal to move on from him and the likes of him including Pepe. This in anyway doesn’t take away the fact that they were great players to their nation but just to make ways for the upcoming and younger players in order to remain competitive.

By the way, congratulations to France on their victory. It was a actually a great game from both teams and the better side won.

Spain is now waiting to see who their opponent will be.

Let's see who will be France's opponent.
Spain's opponent and France's opponent? They both already know their opponent in the next round.

Spain and France will face each other in semi-finals. Click here to see the bracket of the knockout stage on the official website of UEFA.
Yes it's a fierce opponent again in the semifinals, still Spain will be the favorite after seeing their game against Germany, while France was not so impressive with Portugal.

For the second semifinal will it be England vs Netherlands or Switzerland Netherlands?
Still doubtful how England can win with an easy victory. Grin

I disagree to say Ronaldo like this. He is no longer as good as he was years ago but saying he is a worse Portuguese player in this tournament, it's not true. I am not his fan, to be frank, but do you think younger players like Joao Felix played better than Ronaldo in Euro 2024 for Portugal?

With his current age and the physical condition he has, he should follow Kroos. Kroos will complete his last task with the German national team at Euro 2024. Even Kroos still performs better than Ronaldo. Kroos is also only 34 years old. But his statement was quite surprising. Maybe Ronaldo and Pepe still have a great desire to play, but they have to be aware. Their condition has greatly declined. They have to start thinking about getting a license and a bear from the sidelines to become a coach. If Ronaldo still participates in the 2026 world cup, it seems that the coach will only carry the burden for other players.

One man cannot make a forest. Only Ronaldo cannot seem to do the scoring all alone. After getting the ball he can't assist himself and then score the goal. He needs the assistance of his other teammate and most of them do not have the experience to know what to do when they are with the ball. However, Ronaldo has played where his strength has led him, and failing to win this competition, he won't get to participate in it again. He is old and he needs to rest, there is no need to chase what he knows won't be possible now to get.

It was indeed an impressive performance from Portugal and France. When it comes to penalties anything could happen. Luck has to fall on one side even if it falls on the team with the least performance. When I saw the statistics of the game I marveled. There were 28 attempts on goal but only 8 were on target.

This is not a problem of stamina and mentality, but indeed Spain's quality is slightly better, they played much better with the many attacks they managed to carry out and luck came in the final minutes of extra time, this was truly an extraordinary surprise, no one expected it. there will be a goal in those last seconds.

And overall I think Spain also deserves to qualify for the semifinals.

And in another match, Portugal had to be eliminated quite painfully because they lost through a penalty shootout even though their performance was slightly better but unfortunately no goals were scored in normal time.
The match was extraordinary, Spain managed to beat the home team in a very dramatic way, the equal strength of the two teams meant that the match had to continue into the Extra Time round. The winning goal for Spain was scored by Mikel Merino in the 119th minute. Germany was very surprised and devastated by this goal because they did not have time to catch up. Spain level of confidence is very high even though they play more young players, the Spanish coach also really believes in the young players he has and continues to maintain the starting XI as in the previous match.

Portugal failed to show their strength after only being able to play 0-0 in Normal time, none of their attempts to break into the French goal were successful, as a result they had to be eliminated in the penalty shootout. France was the only team to qualify for the semifinals without scoring a single goal from open play. France got three goals through 2 own goals from opposing players and 1 goal from the penalty spot. The Spain vs France match will take place in the semifinals, it looks like Spain can win this match easily because France is just relying on luck to qualify for the semifinals.

Yesterday match between Germany vs Spain was the most interesting game between the two matches, and it was actually very fascinating no doubt, but I wasn't happy with the officiating of the central referee, I believe that he killed the game by his incompetence, that game would have gone to penalty shoot out if he had gave Germany that clear penalty they had when the ball struck cucurella's hand in the penalty box, and to me, that was the turning point of the game, because it was very clear that the Germans has seized the rythme and it would have led to penalty shoot out or they would have won, but the performance of the referee was the major cause of their losing yesterday.

Then as for the Portugal vs France, it was an even game, though the France team has almost all the best scoring opportunities, but I don't actually think they were better than Portugal either, so since it ends in a penalty shoot out, I would say that the winning side was just lucky, because penalty is a game of luck, so a big congratulations to France for advancing to the semi final stage of the competition.

In my opinion, what prevented Ronaldo from getting goals was that he received very few passes from his teammates. Even when Ronaldo is in a good position to score a goal, his teammates seem reluctant to make an assist.

Yeah if they had supplied enough passes for Ronaldo he would have eventually scored one goal but it was unfortunate that majority of the passes wasn't going towards his direction and he was actually upset about it because having a player like Ronaldo in a country is a huge advantage because he has the skill and the energy to score or create a scoring opportunity so what Portugal should have done was to have a pattern that all there passes should have channeled towards his direction but they failed to take advantage of it.

But still I can't help but also commend on Portugal performance even if they lose the match through penalty shootout because before the match started I was thinking it will be an easy win for France because right from there history of meeting France is far better in performance than Portugal but I was surprised Portugal was able to hold them goalless draw, however Pepe is a player I so much admired because of his performance considering his age.

Portugal looked better, but as I said earlier, defense plays a very big role in such matches, and both coaches understood this very well, so they focused on defense. There are no complaints about the Portuguese attack, they were good from the very beginning, not all matches allow you to score, this happens sometimes, but there are actually a lot of complaints about the French attack. And the penalty shootout is just a factor of luck, yesterday France was more fortunate and they move on.

Spain came in with an excellent start in the second half with their substitute Olmo given them the lead just in 51mins with that fabulous shot with that constructive pass from Lamine Yamal. Olmo didn't waste a sec launching the ball behind the Germany goalie so calmly, a one touch hit.

Can Germany give a response in this game against Spain?  They had that comeback with Switzerland just when we all thought they are put of any possibilities. Looking at the situation, am just left with no choice but to ask if there's a hope still.
The game is over and Spain have did it to make it 2:1 just before the end. I would have liked to have seen a penalty shoot-out because I think Germany would have won that. But okay, thats it, the hosts are out and a strong team made sure of it. Just before the end Füllkrug had a great chance, the header went so close to the goal... or Musialass shot to Cucurellass hand, that should normally have been an eleven. You can discuss the mistakes now, or let it go and watch Spain in the semifinals. Germany is a great team and they will always be a favorite.

The Spanish team has shown that they are not only good at performance but they also have a winning mentality and incredible stamina. Spain initially really dominated the game and didn't give Germany much space to get into their rhythm. However, conditions changed slightly when Spain gained a goal advantage, where Luis de La Fuente seemed to want to change strategy and pull out several of their key players such as Lamine Yamal, Alvaro Morata, and Nico Williams, and that decision actually paved the way for Germany to find a goal.

The difference in stamina between the two was clearly visible in the extra time, where the German players looked very exhausted, and they could not overcome this obstacle because they could no longer make substitutions.

It is very sad that Portugal have to exit the Euro Cup after losing their match against France. cristiano ronaldo's last euro cup he will not play in the next euro among their fans, he will be greatly missed by all the fans. This was Cristiano Ronaldo's last Euro and Pepe's last Euro, two legendary players who will not be seen on the field of Euro Cup again.

I'm not surprised at their exit in this Euros because I never saw that sharp Portugal team that normally plays without Ronaldo, people might say is hate or dislike but the thing is that having someone who's all about himself on a field that have 10 players including him is a no no for me. Ronaldo is a great players but since he left Juventus that was when that selfish act started coming out, maybe he thinks he can still be the guy he was back then at Manchester United and Real Madrid, things change, although last night he tried to make things happen like we all know him for but a tree can not make a forest.
the thing is telling too much on him and that's possibly the reason why he hasn't retired because he's still full of himself and is still trying to prove a point at the time he's supposed to have retired. Apart from the love we have for him due to his past performance at real Madrid and Manchester United, looking at his play at Al Nasir and even throughout this Euros, he's been all of himself and less of a team player. Was a bit devastated because they couldn't win in the penalty shootout but it didn't reflect that much because he didn't loose the penalty he took. If he had lost the penalty in this match you would have seen a strange kind of cry and reaction. It all goes to show that he's more of an individual player than a team player and you can't win a match and lead a team with that kind of mentality. That's also what affected thier attach cause he wasn't assisting the team to recover the balls when it was needed and the team has to pay hugely for it.

Talking about him playing his last Euros with the national team, that's true but I still believe that he can still play in the World Cup that's if he chose to which I know he'd be tempted to play because that's where the whole joy lies, playing in front of the whole world, let's not judge by his age, he can still play if being called.
If this is the last time we'd see him play with the Portugal national team I think the squad won't miss him on the pitch because they still have young stars who can lift the team to greater height and believe me when I say this, the Portugal national team will be one of the feared team to play against, it shouldn't be all about CR7 like his absence will affect the team negatively no I disagree with that.
the most noble thing Ronaldo should have done would have been to retire before this Euros but since he's played and didn't make it more horrible than most people might have expected, it's best he leaves it this way. There is time for everything and he's certainly giving it his all at his prime. He played in all major tournaments and won trophies and the heart of fans globally and it's just time to sit back and watch rising stars to over from where he's left it. Football has changed and if you've looked at the players at Spain, most of them are young players that are energetic and are nearly approaching thier early 20ths. I wouldn't fancy the idea of Ronaldo playing in the 2026 FIFA world cup even if he's being called to do so but with what I'm seeing, his impact at Al Nasir might reduce next season and that will play a great role in determining if the coach will ever look at him as an option to consider.

Spain vs Germany has been the most interesting and exciting game. Spain performed better than Germany, as a last-minute goal sent the team into the semi-finals. I watched the game completed and the Germany team attacked a lot, but the goalkeeper of the Spain team saved the goal brilliantly a few times. Although Germany's adequate attack was successful in the 89th minute and the game was drawn, Spain went ahead with another goal in extra time to secure victory. Spain team entered the semi-finals with a 2-1 win, Spain team's performance was excellent which made them succeed in qualifying for the semi-finals, but unfortunately they were eliminated from the Euro Cup by Germany team.

Spain is likely the most active team since the euro competition started and that's why they are likely to reach the finals that's if the game was to be decided on open play and not penalty because whenever the game reaches penalty it's all strictly luck base and I think even the best team on open play can be defeated. The Portugal game yesterday was one example of exactly what am talking about.

Germany has said goodbye to the cup. Germany was my favorite team for this cup but they lost 2-1 in extra time against Spain.
Spain is now waiting to see who their opponent will be.

The France-Portugal match went to penalties and France won. I thought France would win in normal time, but it didn't happen.
Let's see who will be France's opponent.

To be honest, both Germany and Spain played very well the match was the best in this tournament, I was not expecting Spain to win against Germany because the way Germany played will give you the confidence to believe that Germany would win, Germany controls the game but the problem that Germany has yesterday is from their defenders, Germany defenders are not playing very well yesterday, the first assist given by Yamal was good and I believe if any defender moves to take the ball the Spain player won’t get the ball and even play it, also the second goal, after crossing the ball Antony Rudiger was relaxing thinking that the goalkeeper will come out to catch the ball and Spain player head the ball into the net and score the winning goal for Spain.

It was so painful that after fighting for 120 minutes and still not winning the match, Germany players relaxed at the end of the game thinking that the match would end and they would go to a penalty shootout and within a second the match ended Spain turned up and show Germany that they are winning the game and qualify for another round of the tournament and I’m very happy that Spain qualified for the next round but one thing happens in the game yesterday and I think Germany got robbed in the game and that was the handball that Spain did and suppose to be a penalty, is the handball a penalty or not?

I guess half of people who watch Euro are Ronaldo's fans, they might not want to continue to watch the rest match.
Apart from Portugal, what was unfortunate was also Germany's failure to lose to Spain. Germany was the host this time and they failed to reach the semi-finals. This can also reduce the enthusiasm of visitors in the semi-final and final matches.
we see that Portugal and Germany are not playing badly. Even though it fails, I think the supporters will give extraordinary respect to the players who have fought. Moreover, several players may not be defending their country at the next EURO agenda.
The painful part of the second quarterfinal games was that Portugal dominated the games but we were unable to score. France has been a shadow of themselves relying only on Mbappe for goals but the Didier Deschamps have been rising on the wings of luck. I suspect that if they fail to win the competition, Didier might be sacked because the team is not showing much quality in this competition. Maybe this might be the best time to bring Zinedine Zidane to the national team. Zidane have been turning down many clubs which has aroused speculation that he is targeting the national team coaching job.

It would be unfair to blame a single player for the failure of a team but I would want to blame Kai Havertz for Germany's defeat. The Arsenal player squandered some chances that would have given the host the advantage. He is not a team player and should have released some balls instead of going for goal. The competition will become less exciting because the host fans might not be coming to the stadium to watch games due to this disappointing exit.

France qualified for the semi-finals after defeating Portugal.  The match saw no goals despite plenty of attacking play but luckily France won the match on penalties. Although each player scored well in the penalty shootout, a missed goal by Portugal's Felix saw the team lose and have to retire. France successfully scored every goal to see them into the semi-finals of the Euros, Cristiano Ronaldo had to leave and Mbappe's side qualified for the semi-finals.

Yeah it's really heartbreaking to see Portugal didn't qualify for the next round, I think most people are hoping Portugal to win even though they know German and Spain are high likely to become a champion.

France is strong, but seeing how they win with small margin or through penalty is really not make people convinced they will win.

The game between Germany and Spain was certainly competitive but Germany lost after 30 minutes of extra time.  Germany, the host nation, naturally went ahead against Spain, but Spain did well in the match. Most of the time we saw Spain was ahead of Germany. When Spain scored the first goal, Germany tried hard but could not score, but at the very end of the main time, Germany scored a goal to bring the team back to level. If Germany had been able to perform as aggressively in extra time as Germany did in the second half, the outcome of the match might have been different.

In the match between Spain and Germany my bet was in favor of Germany but I'm not unhappy with the result because Spain performed so well that's why they won and Spain definitely qualified for the next round.
