... If you're going to spam, don't even bother. If you are going to break any campaign/bounty rules (e.g: don't join with multiple accounts), then you also have a problem.

Right gotcha! Thanks for the reply...

So it may not be clear as can be from my post, but there is no intent on my part to do either of those actions, or anything otherwise not permitted.

If I dedicate one account only to interact with one of the coin communities that I belong to, say Coin1, then all posts, etc. done with that would be in regards to discussion in their ANN thread mostly, although I'm free to make general posts in other threads of my interest. It isn't like I would be making more comments regarding Coin1, just by having two separate accounts to do so, I would register a new account with Coin1 since they do like us to remain active. This way one cannot have multiple accounts for anything like that as is the same for accounts on Twitter, etc. all aiming to support the same organization.

It is more work for me and also means starting from scratch with a newbie account, so I will have to work my way up, but primarily build up this account that already exists.

Since I'm not of the mindset to spam or hack, I don't even know how to be a hacker, I hadn't thought of anything such as a 'non-legit' coin/organization that may encourage their user to spam other ANNs using multiple accounts (which seems the opposite of your example but more practical in effect).

The communities I'm talking about are not that naive -- they have you register all your Social Media accounts with them so that they can check on things, it would be impractical to use more than one account with one organization and likely you'd be banned.

Side Note:
As far as having more than one Twitter account, well you would only want to register one of them with any community that you belong to. Perhaps you have a business Twitter account, or personal one, and in addition you created one for the crypto community so all your non-crypto friends don't have to continually see your crypto postings. That as far as I know is fine, but I have only 1 twitter account mainly for connection to the cryptocurrency community.

The other abuse I can see, since it is discussed on the individual community's chat room or forums, is that people will create multiple signup accounts for those individual communities; especially if they are having airdrops.

That is a huge problem and I don't know of a better example, and just now as I'm writing this I thought of the connection -- those cheaters would have to create a BitcoinTalk account for each of their alt/duplicate accounts in said community so they would each appear active... that is akin to a Sybil attack; joining one group or organization as separate personalities and impostering as being several different individual users of said community. Automatic ban if they are caught.

Then those who are cheating by creating separate email accounts find they need to create separate Social Media accts for each of their multiple email (and linked) accts/false personas. That is basically illegal or against any rules and regs... that is not the same has having one personal/business email account and one for ALL of your crypto needs -- I think that is the type of abuse you are referring to.

It's not against the forum rules. Officially, you can have as many accounts as you want.

The real problem is what you do with those multiple accounts. If you're going to spam, don't even bother. If you are going to break any campaign/bounty rules (e.g: don't join with multiple accounts), then you also have a problem.

So are there official guidelines?

I am looking for the rules relating to just opening a Bitcoin Forum account, limits (to one account per user), or any other requirements.

For example, I am a current member and have only ever had one single Bitcointalk account.

I am actively participating in 2-3 coin projects at the same time and some are very insistent that I wear their signature, not for any particular bounty or rewards necessarily, but for loyalty purposes. Two of the coins are beginning, or have been, in a slightly bitter rivalry as one seems to have almost copied all of the features, graphics with slight modifications, of the other coin community that I have been with longer.

The only solution I can think of, which is a pain in the rear, is to open a separate account dedicated to one of the coins... in addition to this account if allowed, or bail on one of the teams. There is no bad intentions in thinking of doing this as it is not to spam, or break any other rules, it is simply an option that may, or may not, exist to solve this dilemma for now and keep my status for one that requires at min. Jr. Member accounts (they don't want Newbie status accounts posting on their ANN perhaps to avoid spammy 1-2 word comments, like "I love $Coin", or "when moon?").

Hello everybody, I translated the original post by mprep into Dutch. You can find the translation here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/niet-officiele-lijst-met-officiele-regels-richtlijnen-faq-bitcointalkorg-4606921

Hopefully this translation will help some people to better understand the forum. I'm glad I could contribute something to the forum by providing this translation. If someone has questions about the translation, please let me know!
Added to the list of translations, thanks.

What is needed to add something to the rules??
I already started a thread here with request to add the use of homographs to be forbidden in the rules.
I have opened a Poll, too.
Is there anything else I should do?
Considering that the homograph ban would be sitewide, you're going to have to convince theymos.

with respect, but imho, insults are unavailable in any forum. At least in section where important things are discussed.

Thanks for this information. I've noticed not all threads show their rules so when i first started out i had to figure out the hard way after seeing my posts were deleted because they lacked substance. Overall, i'm impressed with this forum, it's a treasure trove of information!

Simply use the "report to moderator"  button on the lower right of the post/thread and request to lock it alongside with a valid reason or description.
That is more noticeable than posting a thread in the Meta board.

Example: "Please. lock this thread because the author is currently inactive and a new active thread was already opened as as a replacement."

However, if the reason is too vague, moderators will ignore it.

Spectrecoin Community Manager,prev acct hacked
I had my account compromised with a changed password and email changed. It was a very old account and the btc address was many wallets ago so it was useless to try the "signed message" method for recovery.

I setup a new account, I was the owner/mod of a very important announcement thread...https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2103301.new#new.... I requested it to be locked but was referred here.
Our dev has since started a new announcement thread so we'd like to lock the old one to prevent posting and or spamming.

Since I cannot log in I'm unable of course to lock it myself.

I would appreciate any guidance how to proceed
Thank You

Hello, I have my announcement post on Altcoin, I would like to inquire if adding extra information to my posted thread such as "our coin has been listed on XX exchanges" and " our coin has officially listed on XX ranking sites", this kind of additional information are allowed?
I hope my question is that silly to ask and looking forward to your response on this matter.
There shouldn't be any problem with follow-up information or updates in your own thread as long as you're the Author.
Post like those can count as a bump or an update and even "bump" word alone isn't counted as spam; however, one-word bumps should be deleted afterwards.

The problem is, if those were posted by questionable newbies and brand new accounts, it will fall into spam and the ANN thread will be flagged red by cautious members.

Take note: "our coin has been listed on XX exchanges" is good enough, but a well formatted and constructive update can be a good eye-candy to your potential investors.

Are there other languages the rules have been translated to?
Is it really hard to figure it out alone?
Look at the end of mprep post...

Thanks for answers! I got it.

Yes, it's this. You need to clear it up with the moderator of the board in question.

It's the first thing that I did. But I didn't get any answer.
