If a gambler is always winning we won't say that the gambler is addicted to gamble but we will say that the gambler is an expert in predicting games.
However this days we do not call those that are winning addicted gamblers but we call those that are losing addicted gamblers.
This quote made me create this thread.
This is really a nice topic because the argument about gambling addiction is one sided. I have never seen a post associating gambling addiction to winning, it is always when there are losses of high magnitude that we remember there is something called gambling addiction. But it has not even occur to me that we can call someone that is winning a gambling addict, instead it may be right to see the person as wise and a good investor.
Yeah it may be a nice topic of discussion but it still makes no difference. Because People who loses regularly will still be addressed as gambling addict, while those that regularly win addressed as expert. But from the Ops question I think gambling addiction works for both losers and winners but mostly used for losers since wining has no connection with addiction, people just Think the word addiction is only for losers that's why they don't see it's meaning associated to addiction. If people should know  that winning and losing can be called addiction, it would have been addressed properly. And not Segregation.

Addicted gamblers experience more loss than those gamblers that are not addicted. However the reasons for their losses and addicted habits towards gamble is because their emotions made them go chase after their losses. However from what the OP said I don't think that for a gambler  to win 90% of his bets is possible, even if it does it won't last long unless the gambler is extremely lucky.
I agreed with what you have said @Samlucky O, both addicted gamblers and non addicted gamblers can be called addicted gambler if they both gamble regularly.

Gambling often is not what causes addiction, but when we are lacking behind in many aspects of life including gambling itself due to the time taken from us on gambling, then we left other things unattended to, addiction could also be seen as a side effect from the way we used to gamble, if the impact of gambling on us is being positive, then we are indeed enjoying gambling while if it does not give a desired expectation, we may see to one o f the reasons as addiction.

Hello gambler.
Am just wondering if one is gambling everyday (24/7) and he's winning in all his predictions (let's say 90% of his games are won) we do not call the person an addicted gambler, but we only say that he's an expert gambler. But if a gambler is not winning and he's gambling everyday we do call the person an addicted gambler.
Both of the people you mentioned can be considered addicted gamblers.  But the first gambler who gambles seven days a week but is lucky almost every day is in profit. He will be considered an addicted gambler if he participates in gambling and participates almost every day.
The second person participates in gambling almost every day but due to bad luck he does not get profit every day but he is also an addicted gambler.  No matter whether he earns profit from gambling or not, he is considered an addicted gambler.

Playing every day does not mean that the person is addicted to gambling. Many people have confused the definition of addiction: ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_gambling ). When we see a person who plays every day, but who manages to stop playing when he or she is very busy, who does not use money that he or she cannot afford to lose, who is not constantly talking about gambling, then we are not dealing with a person who is addicted to gambling, but rather a person who really likes to play but who has self-control. For example, people who have a job, wake up every day to go to work, this does not mean that they are workaholics. But there are people who are workaholics. The most important thing is that we know that addiction is a disease and only a doctor, after analyzing the patient, can determine that the patient is addicted.

They are both addicted to gambling but with a different result. The result of the one winning gambling always does not change anything for him , he is still addicted to gambling, the only luck for him is that he is winning for the moment which may not remain like this forever. One thing about addiction is that it always come with consequences,  a gambler may not be affected by effect of addiction because of luck but the negative effect of addiction is always there and can't be taking away.

The difference between the gamblers is the result they get from their games and the reason why the result are not the same is because gambling can't be predicted and it is either a win or a lose but they both are just addicted to gambling.

This quote made me create this thread.

It comes down to if someone could go without betting.  If someone is gambling all day long, and even if they are hitting 90% of their bets, that doesn't mean that they aren't addicted.  Now they would not be considered a "degenerate" gambler because they aren't pissing away their life savings or every pay check, but they absolutely could still be considered addicted.  So I would not equate the two as being offsetting.

If we correlated why someone can be claimed as a gambling addict, is because he cannot be separated from gambling, even when he gets a continuous victory from gambling, I like the existing statement.

Like "addiction" (is a sense of unable to without anything), if that person has freedom of his feelings and desires, releasing gambling for a long time after today he gambles, despite getting victory, it can be said he is not addicted, but If he continues to want to gamble even though we get a victory then we can say that he is addicted. We can conclude if the two cannot be separated from gambling, whether losing or winning in gambling means they are addicted.
Well, this is exactly inline with what I pointed out above, how frequently a gambler wins his games, or loses games does not and have nothing to do with gambling addiction, anybody can be addicted to gambling whether he or she is considered as a professional gambler or not.

But then again, based on my own personal opinion, it's better not to be considered a professional gambler and not addicted to gambling, this is much better than being considered a professional and addicted, for as long as I know and am concerned, it's hard to come across a supposedly professional gambler who is not addicted to gambling, it's very rare or even impossible.

Well in my view, if we are looking at the meaning of addict, it means someone who does a particular thing all the time and therefore we could say such person is addicted to that particular thing.

However, the word addition is usually used in the negative and not the position because it is taking the person's time away from other things especially when the other aspects of life of the person is suffering.

Hence, whichever way we look at a gambler who is profiting in his gambling journey, he will still be known and called an addict in my view because he is occupying himself with that particular thing while other aspects of his life could be suffering whether his family or children. Thus, it becomes inconsequential if he is profiting putting into consideration the nomenclature of addiction. The effect of addiction is general and what you suffer too at the long run from such addiction. If your home will go up in flame, it doesn't matter if you are a winning addict but because you have not given proper attention to what will lead to such arson, then it will happen as a winner or loser.

But it depends on the one we want to be, whether a losing addict or a winning addict. I sure know the one that is preferable, the winning addict  Grin

Addiction is addiction whether it's beneficial or it's causing some harm to you. Just because I have the habit of  taking weed every day, I don't skip it and it's doesn't make me feel any bad and there is another person that take it and causing harm to the person doesn't justify that smoking weed is good for the health, you might have the health problem either now or later in the future, this similar analogy applied to gambling as well for the person that is winning and the person that is not winning anything.

As long as money is involved in gambling, addiction of players is a constant thing that will be there, we might see it individually or solo but people will always have addiction towards something they can't do about. Imagine addicted it's for people to use their last balance to gamble, that's how crazy people can go with gambling, they will always stake money on something they like.
Whether it is causing harm to you or not addiction is addiction. And the reason for saying this is that someone can be addicted while winning a lot in gambling, addiction can influence a gambler positively and negatively. But most persons only see say a gambler is addicted when he starts losing in gambling a lot. At some point, a gambler might not be addicted to gambling but still incur losses whenever he chooses to gamble. Just because he is seeing lots of loss then he is now to be tagged a gambling addict.

Permit me to say that gambling can be very addictive when we get to win most times compared to when we lose. Some persons will choose to quit gambling after they might have loss a lot but if one is wining, practically the person will continue to gamble untill he gets addicted.

First and foremost, lets get this straight, it is practically or what ever means, impossible for anybody to gamble 24 hours a day and 7 days a week (I hope you realized that this is what your "24/7" mean), if this is possible, it simply means that the gambler in question does sleep, and does not participate in any other activities aside gambling, if this was possible, I tell you that such a gambler is the definition of what I usually term as a chronic addicted gambler, regardless of how often he or she wins each game, which I already told you that it's impossible to win every game the gambler plays, having to imagine this in the first place isn't even ideal in any sense.

In the nutshell, it takes being addicted to gambling to want gamble every blessed day, at this stage, what the gambler should really be concerned about is on how to reduce their level of activity, and not whether he or she is regarded as a professional or not.
And also, being a professional does not make a gambler become immune to addiction.

Be it gambling or not we should always note that whatever we give full attention to is tantamount to resulting into addiction because there is always a full focused over there. Whether the person is making profit or not the addiction would always results at the later ends when such person can not do without that. But in gambling what makes it so obviously is the money stake over there because would always wants to win.

I can also sight an example of playing PS, while playing there would be no money involved but the fun part of it always get them carried away but there would be some time when they will have to see themselves that as they are playing it they can also to turn it to live game where they could start earning money due to their experience in playing some of those games which would later still results into addiction.

OP's case aside, if you're saying that he's addicted by only profiting and gambling daily, or that he's addicted to gambling only because he doesn't profit and gambles seven days a week, I respectfully disagree with both.
Because I would call a gambler addicted only when he is suffering financially to gamble but still gambles.  And when a gambler gambles daily but doesn't cross his limit that he can't afford to lose then I wouldn't call him an addict. Because if a person can afford to spend a small amount of money on gambling every day I see nothing wrong with it.

He may be an expert, very hard to believe for me as I don't see any gamblers who is in profit over the long run, the true long run I mean which means to be in profit over at least six consecutive months. The problem is that even when the gambler is an expert the level of addiction is high as long as the gambler keeps turning back to their play ways as it is an indicator that this gambler cannot really stay without gambling no matter what which makes it crystal clear that the gambler is addicted.
I know, such a situation that a gambler will remain in profitable for over 90% doesn't exist. The Op just painted that scenario for the purpose of this post.

The reason why those who gamble often and win are not considered addicts is because their gambling behaviour does not affect the society. They'll always have the money to gamble. But if they keep losing and needs to steal to get money, that's the negative effects of gambling called addiction.

So overall I doubt anything between two gamblers differ as overall during the long term all gamblers come to an equal enumerator which makes them all losers over this time interval. The real winners as they say are people who don't gamble but I contradict this saying too as you never know who is the real winner unless you gamble as a very few percentage in the world has hit life changing events in gambling, meaning they have won million of dollars in there.

In fact, the characteristics of gambling are not only the frequency of winning and losing, but also the emotional need for this activity. Therefore, if someone is involved in gambling and earns some money or sometimes even loses money, but always has a habit of gambling without having control over it, then they are an addict. There is a possibility that the financial results are different while the behavioral patterns inherent in both addicts are the same, gambling also sometimes helps meet some personal needs.

The system is designed to always favour the facilitators therefore you have to stop gambling when you have somehow won them. Continuing to gamble is inviting failure to yourself as you can't beat the odds of the house winning. To not become an addict, we shouldn't wait until we have failed before we quit. Waiting is inviting pressure unto us as we'll want to win back our losses but everyone knows that's unlikely to happen. The difference between an addicted gambler that win and those that lose is their addiction is having a different impact on their lives even though they both are gambling addict. I'll prefer to be the gambler that is winning with my addiction than who's losing and still has addiction to battle.
It is not how often the gambling activity or how accurate the predictions made by the gambler will be the thought that the gambler is addicted or not. but rather control over finances and the ability to control themselves to be able to get out of the game.
luck can indeed come to anyone, even if you are a gambling addict. but what makes the difference is how to manage the victory that is already in their hands. addicts may withdraw some and then continue the game. but in the end, they will lose everything.
addiction has an impact that is more inclined to lose, not a win.
Therefore, in my opinion, it is important to plan in advance what the player will do with the money won if he wins. I am serious, every reasonable player should have this plan written on a piece of paper, because if the player does not fulfill this condition, then he is doomed to always lose, no matter how much he wins.

And if we talk simply about players who have not won anything yet and started playing, then self-control and confidence in the correctness of their actions are important, and this can only arise after the player has long experience in gambling and knows a lot about it. I am sure that beginners will make the same mistakes, for example, trying to win more all the time.

Addiction is not about winning or gambling 24x7.  Addiction is incapableness to quit gambling at the right moment, the latter may be relevant to any circumstances - winning, losing, end of bankroll,  health reasons, you name it. Even those who can be considered as the experts in the field my belong to the class of addicted persons. Thus, in this respect,  there is no difference between the two in your example. Both may be either addicted or not.

I know one of my friend, who do not gamble often but he only gambles on the weekends but he uses a lot of money in each bet. I would consider him addicted to gambling because he has no money management and one day he may lose all his money, if the luck is not on his side. If you are not able to control yourself from greediness, you are addicted to gamble.

Casinos too, are wise enough to promote the players wins but not the losses.

You are right here as there are no casino who will promote in a way that players lost that much amount while gambling at their casino  Cheesy
If they started doing so, who will play at such casino where the casino themselves claim that if you play at their casino, you will most probably lose.
