Money can only give you temporary happiness but you'll still seek for other important things that it can't really buy. We can live a luxurious life and still not be contented. As for being successful, for me it's subjective because different people have different definition of success. For some, they are successful already when they are happy and satisfied. For me, being successful is when you achieve financial freedom. When the point comes where money will not a problem to you anymore. For me, as long as I don't have any problem financially and I'm happy with what I'm doing then I can consider myself successful already.

It is a human nature, indeed. In fact, we, humans, have evolved to be like this. When I was a little kid, my life goal was to surround myself with chocolate and eat it all the time. I thought I didn't need anything else. Fast-forward to a grown-up man who can actually afford that kind of living, but it turns out that he needs much more than that. ... I agree with you that money is not a good measure of success. There are many people who are being born into a wealthy family and never have to worry about money in their life. I wouldn't call inheriting large sums of money as being successful. In case you are a self made man than its different, but still money is no guarantee for happiness.
