Been lurking for ages.

Was early adapter on bitcoin back when it all started.

Mined a few hundred coins and sold them all at $16 ;-(

Anyway would like to have early access since I've set up a p2pool for CHNCoin and would like to engage in the discussion of alt coins.

I already mined a lot of PPcoin, Litecoin etc.

I'm 36 and from EU

I'd like to propose the idea of a group buy in the ZTEX FPGA hardware thread.

As for a proving technical competency...

The bitcoin network adapts to a change in total network hashrate by adjusting the difficulty of the proof-of-work required to generate a block. This occurs after every 2016 blocks. The difficulty is adjusted such that a block will be generated on average once every 10 minutes.

As a result of the release of custom hardware (ASIC's) and the recent spike in interest from the general public, the total network hashrate has increased significantly and has resulted in a corresponding increase in difficulty. This will eventually cause GPU's to become unappealing to those who pay for their electricity, as individuals will end up paying more than the value of the bitcoins they recieve by mining. FPGA's provide significantly more hashes per joule than GPU's, and will therefore be appealing to miners for a longer time than GPUs.

Best regards,

I hope this is enough to authenticate me as past the newbie stage:
Bitcoin is a distributed timestamp server for contracts. It uses a programming language similar to Forth to describe the conditions under which bitcoin in a transaction can be spent (used by another transaction).

Now please get me out of here so I can reply to threads in the technical forum Smiley

Hi,

I mainly came to this website to comment about the functionality of the MtGox payment module for Prestashop, hoping that it is possible (like the Magento plugin) to add a feature where BTC can be displayed along side the current currency (GBP) in the front end.

Would it be possible to be white listed so I can post my suggestion in the appropriate thread?

Hi,

I have read these forums frequently when searching Google, so I finally decided to join. I know quite well of BTCs, however, I would like to ask other members about their opinions about online BTC miners, rigs, setups, etc. I'm an active member on many forums and like to help out the community when I can. I would also like to participate in the Marketplace and purchase some items (from trustworthy members) that can help me in my BTC mining.

Thanks.

So this would save a few hours and a few posts then..

I joined the forum to take part in one of the group buys of the Avalon ASIC chips. I also plan to assist in the design of an 'open source' PCB assembly for said chips, and possibly arrange or assist with a group buy & assembly of said PCB so the community can make use of said chips.  It provides an important hedge against consolidation in mining and offers better defense against 51+% attacks.

I've been a casual GPU miner (BTC/LTC) for a while now and understand the principles and theory of the system quite well if i do say so myself.

I've been into Bitcoin for over a year now, mostly as a hobby at first but I really started getting into it last fall. Gave my family Casacscius coins for Christmas and I tell everyone I know about Bitcoin even though I know that if everything goes bad, which I don't think it will, I'll be known as the crazy friend/family member who was into that strange alternative currency. I've been lurking around here for a while and I read a lot of stuff other places.

Can you set me free, please? Thanks!

I think I overqualify,.

I invested $1500 on bitcoin. I will spend $1400 to buy butterfly labs machine. I want to invest in bitfounder asicminer. I want to sell e-book to bitcoin.

I am a noob?

Half the people here probably know less about bitcoin than I am.

Yea, I got 15 posts and have been here for months. What? Glitches?

Why am I still listed as Newbie? I thought it was a 5-post thing.

Edit: I get the idea behind doing this, but I don't think it helps to shoot the shit with other new people just so you can go over to the main forums and talk about what you really want to talk about (ask a specific question, reply to someone to offer help).

Hello.

I am a bitcoin enthusiast and have been buying and selling bitcoins in person, online, and on the exchange for a while. I am in the market for buying Casascius Gold Coins and saw an auction for a set by (Colbee) but couldn't place a bid due to the restrictions. I've been following the bitcoin reddit for a while also and find the concept and idea of bitcoins fascinating. I would greatly appreciate if I could be whitelisted so I can participate on other forums and also bid in the auctions Smiley. Thanks and look forward to being a contributing member to the bitcoin community.

Best,
DM

I would like to contribute the following post to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=114664.40 :

As you can hopefully see, I have a significant amount of knowledge about the different coins.

Thanks in advance,

My post:

Bitcoin is brilliant except for to senseless calculations everybody is performing to mine a block.  It's great to see that this single oddity has also been resolved using coin age in PPCoin.  However, it's clear that there's still the issue of missing incentive to process transactions when minting a new block.

Many possible solutions have been suggested already, hereby another one:

Let's say that for example on average 2880 coin days per day (24 hour) are destroyed in transactions, and let's also say that it is desired that every 5 minutes a new block is minted for fast transaction processing, on average every block should then process transactions worth 10 coin days.

The system could then mandate that only blocks that process transactions worth at least 10 coin days are valid blocks.  Just like Bitcoin's difficulty this amount could be adjusted every x blocks: if it turns out after x blocks that there are not enough coin days destroyed in transactions to reach a 5 minute average, the mandatory amount is lowered and vice versa.  There is no need to pay any incentives to minters, to earn your 1% interest you must process transactions.

There is also no need to process more than (in this example) 10 coin days, because this will not increase the amount of interest you will receive.
The amount of coin age contributed to the blockchain by a block is the sum of destroyed coin age of the processed transactions and the destroyed coin age of the minted coins (interest receiving coins).  This will ensure that every minter will still be able to collect its 1% in due course and that older transactions will have a higher likelyhood of being processed because of the building up of coin age the longer they are not processed.

However, there is one problem with this scenario (or perhaps more that I'm not aware of).  A minter could decide to process more than the required amount of transaction coin days, to increase his chances of ending up in the blockchain or to perform a little bit of sabotage by submitting a block with lots of transactions forcing a reorganization of the blockchain.

This problem can be a countered with the following measure:
The amount of coin age contributed to the blockchain by a block is the minimum required amount of processed transactions (in my example 10 coin days), regardless of the actual amount of processed transactions + the destroyed coin age of the minted coins (interest receiving coins) + fixed amount per block (this is not a reward to anyone, but only a contribution to the total coin age of the blockchain).

Let's look at an example to see what this will achieve:
Let's say we have 30 coin days worth of transactions to process, and the minimum required amount is 10 coin days.  Let's say the fixed amount per block is 5 coin days, and all the actors combined per fork have the same amount of coin days to mint, for example 7.

In fork A they only process the minimum required amount of coin day transactions per block (10 coin days), in fork B they process more (15 coin days).

The total amount of coin days contributed to the blockchain in fork A is: 10 + 5 + 10 + 5 + 10 + 5 + 7 = 52 coin days.
The total amount of coin days contributed to the blockchain in fork B is: 10 + 5 + 10 + 5 + 7 = 37 coin days.

One can even do without the fixed amount per block (5 coin days in my example), but including the fixed amount will indicate sooner which fork will win.

It is clear that in this scenario, to maximize his chances of ending up in the blockchain, it is in the minters best interest to stay as close as possible to the minimum required amount of coin day transactions per block.

One exception is necessary: when a single transaction exceeds the minimum required amount of coin day transactions per block, the full amount of coin days of this single transaction should contribute to the blockchain, to prevent this transaction from never being processed (it will now be first in line to be processed).

Hi!
My first language is French and I'd really like to help translating on such threads: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=129620.360
I don't even know if this is a good reason, but I'm trying anyway.

Thanks!

I've read Erik Voorhees "On Life and Liberty" which is an excellent paper explaining Bitcoin on a broad level.  I have spent weeks in #Bitcoin-otc where I am registered.  I have trading accounts with at least 5 different websites of different countries and have been trading vigorously over the past month.  I understand that bitcoin isn't a fad but a work in progress and that markets and opportunities abound as it becomes more widely accepted.

Please allow me to post on these useful forums.

Thank you
