It's quite annoying to see every day this quite stupid thread on the first page of Politics & Society. For a change I'd like to invert the question:
Would you kill God if your children commanded it to you?

This is pretty clearly a question regarding the famed “Binding of Isaac”, where Abraham was asked to kill his son, Isaac. Abraham agreed, but God prevented him from carrying out the deed. What most people don’t understand is twofold - first, God had previously promised Abraham that he would have many descendants through Isaac.

Yes, if my god told me to do so, then I will do it. That's what faith is. If we really believe in someone, we will just obey before we complain. Maybe I don't know at first why he will want me to do it, but I know that it has a reason, a reason for good. As I believe in my god, I surrender all so even killing my own child is at stake, I would do it. But if that time came in me, maybe that's the time that I might loss the faith I have in him. Maybe, he will just test my faith, and with that I would certainly make my faith stronger than ever as I really believe in my god.
What kind of god in this modern era will tell anyone to kill their children, It really sound absurd. God wants to save everyone from eternal damnation and that include the worst sinners even when it comes to them God wouldn't say they should be killed. He is a loving Creator who loves "ALL" his children.

I would never want to be in that situation. How would I even know if that is really GOD? That is my first question. I have read that satan is willing to act like god to get what he wants. Also why would god ask me to do such horrible thing, a test of faith will never be enough. I will never to that to my child and I am willing to take all the punishment from god rather that hurting or killing my own children. God will never let me do such thing.

Yes, I will, If only is really the voice of GOD. God really knows better than I do and I believe in His word more than myself. If God says that, He really knows what HE is talking about.

No,,it is wrong,,fathers are not to be put to death for their children, or children for their fathers,,each person will be put to death for his own sin,

If there truly was a God ordering me (so unlikely that I really don’t want to set a number on the probability, but it would be really close to zero), my response would be a middle finger to that immoral psychopath of a god. If He wants my child dead, he would have do it Himself and have the blood on His hands. Let Him do His own dirty work!

Yes. I'am a religious person. If God commanded me to, I would take the life of my very own child, as a servant of God why would you oppose his order? if you truly believe in Him why would you not do as you are told? The very reason that i would adhere to His command is not because I`am afraid of him, it's because I'am faithful to Him.

No, I wouldn't. If you're referring to the story of Abraham, if I remember correctly, it was said there that he attempted to kill his son because he was so afraid of god.
I'm not a religious person, but even If I were, the times have changed and people are no longer scared of the Old Testament god that was shown as a strict ruler and a being of power that liked to receive gifts in the form of sacrifices and didn't like when people worshipped other fake gods. This story wasn't really working out for the church in modern times.
I think it was not because he was afraid of god, it was because he was faithful to his god.

No, i will not do it. Even i trust God and follow all his will, i will not do if he will commanded me to kill my own children. I have my own conscience and i know what is right and wrong. It is a sin to kill people and i will do it.

nestly, I can’t say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to that right now. Why is God asking me to kill my (nonexistent) child? Is it because my child is evil and actively trying to murder a bunch of people, and the only way I can stop him is with a gun? Well, I guess I’d say yes then and spend a long time in therapy after.

I couldn't believe that such brainwashed people exist on this planet. Individuals are ready to murder their own little children, because some imaginary figure has told them to do so. I would forcibly admit these people to mental asylums and take away their children and place them in foster homes.

I would if like Abraham God whom shown all His greatness between my Eyes commanded me directly and clearly instruct to sacrifice my child for His Glory, I would do it. But if its just the command of my co-churchmates i wouldnt to do it.

These are just two of MANY different ways to consider this story that are not Fundamentalist. Consider also that according to Muslim tradition, the son Abraham intends to sacrifice is not Isaac, but Ishmael. I am not as familiar with Islamic hermeneutics, but I imagine there are also various ways to understand this story in the Muslim tradition.

If God asks me to kill my children, I have no choice than to obey because he was the one who gave the children to me so he can take them away as and when he desires.

OMG! just OMG!

Is it ok, if I give you a car as a present and then just take it away. Do I really have the right to do this?

Yes, I would. Because, God always has his plan. Although, it's going to hurt to lose my children, but disobeying God is going to be a sin.

The wording of the choices is disgusting. It's like the OP is trying to justify his opinion.

If am sure the voice is of God, I will have no option than to obey. Remember that Abraham was in the same situation and it was recorded for him for righteousness and the blessings were enormous. God is all knowing and everything He does is perfect and without
