Too late.
It is certainly better to have such code public than have it first in private hands of an evil botnet operator I am sure many is better than a few on this one.
Monero needs much higher hashrate so there is not only few miners like there presently is. I think currently it feels like there are a few big ones that are milking so many coins each day that they don't care to dump a lot every day.
If anybody could come up with some estimates of the botnet hashpower we could expect from this move to 32bit, i would gladly read it, but it's probably a pure guess. Too many variables, so i would just stick with the fundamentals and welcome the increased hashrate from all the people that can now participate with older hardware and perhaps from some friendly botnet operators that could like the idea of an anonymous currency and hold on to their coins a bit.
